  1. The PDF on drivethrurpg is of bad quality. They scanned a copy of the physical book. Chaosium's version of the PDF was made from the digital files so it's of higher quality.

You would think that they would be the same file. Why wouldn't Chaosium give them the file to use ? Seems strange to me.

    Thanks for the info.

  2. Considering the monster compendium thingie for CoC (I won't already have all the monsters in it as the only CoC book I have now is the 6th edn core book - the last time I had a good collection of CoC stuff was when I last played it…back in 1986:))

Sorry, that wasn't a very clear reply. This is the item I think we are talking about:

    Malleus Monstrorum - 23102

here is a link to the review I mentioned:

  3. I have been subscribing to the Paizo Pathfinder products. I like the subscription because you get a pdf with the hardcopy and the pdf is available as soon as the book ships.

I like the looks of this new Adventure Path called Kingmaker. It starts off with the 1st level characters being given the task of trying to settle a frontier area infested with bandits and the like. The characters will eventually be in a position to govern a small settlement and be given the task of growing the settlement into a town and city as more settlers arrive. There are rules included for tracking the development of the city and its resources. The party has to explore the areas around the frontier, and gains experience for each hex of the map the explore. Encounters come in the order that that players discover them in. It is a sandbox type of adventure and looks quite good. The first 2 installments are out.

I was thinking it would make a great Classic Fantasy campaign. It just has to be converted. I don't have a rpg group but I was thinking of trying to tackle it using the Mythic GME

  4. Well I've got 12 of the 17 but I want the pdfs of R&R and Dragon Lines. ( Not as interested in the CoC ) Just waiting for them to show up on the site.

So do you get to write off the purchases as a writers expense. You know, building your library ? ( or do you have to declare them as income :( )

  5. When I want to edit something published as a PDF, I usually just copy it with Open Office and

can then work with it as I please. The only problem are tables and thelike, which have to be

re-formatted, but it is usually still less effort than working from scratch.

I'm not very familiar with OO. How do you "copy it" and then work on it ?

  6. Hungry for Savings?

In the fall of 1846, eighty-seven members of the Donner Party were forced to make a camp near Truckee Lake (now Donner Lake) when the passes over the Sierra-Nevada mountains filled with snow. Having already endured many hardships crossing the deserts the majority of the settlers were unable to continue. They dug in as best they could and waited for a break in the weather, or rescue.

The first rescue party reached the main encampment in April of 1847. Of the 87 pioneers who entered the mountains that fall, only 48 survived. How they survived has become a thing of legend.

To celebrate the eventual rescue of the Donner party and the Feast of St. George (we assume no connection between these events...) Chaosium.com will be holding our annual sale. Save 30% on Chaosium books, monographs, and over 100 PDFs beginning April 23rd through May 1st, 2010. While everyone may not like cannibals, they are quite fond of everyone else!

Just what I have been waiting for since before Christmas ! Hello monographs !

  7. I wish I had a time machine to go back and get all these games that for some reason I did not grab when younger. This is another one that I missed out on. Maybe Drivethurrpg will have it?

You won't be able to find it on Drivethrurpg because it was a licensed product and the license has long since expired. If you did an internet search you might find a pdf copy of one of the FASA rulebooks such as the one here:

    http://www.scribd.com/doc/21028919/Star-Trek-Officers-Manual

  8. For some good background material there is a pdf sale at drivethrurpg.com. All of adamant's titles are $1. In honor of GM day. Titles such as:

    The Imperial Age: London

    MARS: Savage Worlds Edition

    The Imperial Age: British India

    Tome of Secrets

    The Imperial Age: True20 Edition

Thrilling Tales 2nd Edition (Savage Worlds)

Thought it might be some cheap world background material for converting.

  9. (I'm curently in training to become a ghost-tour guide and I actually know a real-life necromancer who looks like Baron Samedi... seriously)

I went on one of those midnight ghost tours in Edinburgh a few years ago and it was a blast. Was especially good to see my wife jump out of her skin. Although she was pregnant and was warned that it might be too much for her to take.

  10. Have you ever looked into the 3.5 modules from Necromancer games. ( 3rd edition rules, 1st edition feel).

There are some good looking adventure/campaigns such as "The Vault of Larin Karr" and "The Lost city of Barakus".

I haven't run them but have read through them. They are in the mold(sp) of a Griffin Mountain. A large wilderness area surrounding a city or town, with lots of encounters, lairs, ruins, and dungeons. They have one over riding storyline but lots of sub plots to play with. Kind of a sandbox for the players to mess around in.

  11. Campaigns usually broke down before I encountered such an issue. (People moving away, timing, etc.) If/when I start such an AP again (and avoid the breakdown), I hope to resolve is similar to Savage Worlds' Plot Point system.

I'm not familiar with Savage Worlds.

  12. Some of the original APs from Dungeon mag were 12 adventures long ! Shackled City and Age of Worms come to mind.

I always thought they would be neat to run, but I wonder if the players get the feeling of being railroaded into following the path. Have you had that problem with your play testing ?

  13. And if D&D could achieve the almost unheard of, a second epoch making surge in popularity (measured by sales) in as many generations, which is what by all accounts it managed with 3e , why can't BRP do well now.

Thanks for the link, Nick. It was enlightening. And Goodman Games sells rpg adventures and campaigns only, if I am not mistaken. I think it is a good read for anyone who wants to understand more about the rpg business. Publishing good material isn't enough. Marketing and support are the key. Good insight into internet sales versus retail store sales. Internet sales are such a minor factor in the sales picture.

I'm looking forward to more BRP goodness, whether BRP becomes more "popular or not".
