  1. I suspect that phrase has an entirely different meaning than the one used in the United States.
  2. There isn't. It's assumed that the GM and players would either use an Agility roll or a DEX resistance roll. There is no reason that a Running skill can't be added as the GM sees fit, however.
  3. I've created a thread (hopefully to be sticked soon) for this very purpose. Thanks, Nick!
  4. I'm turning in my own final batch of changes to the manuscript, having red-inked a tape-bound copy of the manuscript until it's noticeably gained weight (I joke, but not by much). Many of the edits are cosmetic and aren't to be worried about, but I'm calling upon the collected wisdom and kindness of those of who who've got copies to alert me to any items that would fall under the category of typos, errata, corrections, or clarification. Note that I'm not really wanting to turn this thread into a debate about why a particular mechanic works a certain way, or what would be better (unless it's a minor fix), or arguing the philosophy of the rules. However, if there's anything we can get in at the last minute, here's the place to do so. For example, for some reason the Ammo column is blank on the Energy Weapons table. Not sure why, but it is a definite error. However, the discussion of whether the Energy Sword should do Impaling versus Bleeding specials... that's not really what I'm after here (even though I've made that change). Thanks!
  5. You know, if there's one thing about BRP that I would have utterly expunged and done over from scratch, it's movement. Trying to reconcile an already fuzzy system with five different game lines that covered it was no small feat, and I'm sure there are still some wonky bits. The vehicle chart MOV listings on page 267 are based on a travel MOV speed per combat round, assuming one isn't trying to sprint at top speed or overcharge the afterburner. I suspect that the key to that table needs to be rewritten. The creature MOV listings are based more on a tactical situation, and are assumed to be less-than-sustainable over the long haul. drohem is correct in that the Chase system values are not intended to be plugged into the character scale - they are their own subsystem and have their own purposes. However, I am looking at this thread and the soon-to-be-created thread for last-minute changes, and if you see anything that raises a red flag, let me know here or there.
  6. To be fair, I started the parenting thing when I was 39, so I'm scrambling to catch up with the rest of you... it's a bit sobering to think that I was filling out college entry forms when my parents were this age. And I should mention that the shelf BRP #1 is on is around 7' off the ground - my 5'-tall wife can't even reach it.
  7. Heh. My almost-a-year-old daughter got hold of it briefly and nearly made it the fabled-but-lost #1. It escaped unscathed, and resides now atop the highest shelf in the house. When the book is properly on shelves, I may run some local demos at Rogue's Gallery or Dragon's Lair. I figure if I don't do everything I can to promote sales of a product I worked on, I shouldn't be doing this for a living. Plus, it's a lot of fun to run demos in BRP.
  8. I'm glad you got your copy! I was feeling so bad for you I was tempted to offer to loan you mine until yours arrived. By the way, if you're going to Owlcon in February, I'm running a BRP game using the Fallout setting. Confusingly, it's under "Fallout RPG" in their system listing. (Just to be clear, though, I don't have anything to do with Chaosium's shipping, so there wasn't anything I could do to help out with late or missing orders.)
  9. The edits I'm sending Charlie are something like this (I don't have the book on hand); Power Point Cost = 3 per level The revised text notes that if the target is ordered to do something that it would normally never agree to (killing an ally, something that would result in its own death, etc.) it is allowed an Idea roll. If successful, it will balk and refuse the order (but will still remain under Control). Failure means it will do the action. If ordered once more to do the action it has previously balked at, it is allowed a second Idea roll. Failure means it will perform the action. Success means it breaks free from the Control.
  10. I believe that Control has had some feedback to be integrated into the final print copy.
  11. One list. Modify at will. There are provisions for items with powers. Not quite the same thing you're looking for, though. Examples of equipment, yes. No equipment lists, as they are so specific to genres it seemed pointless to include them. I had put together a rough stab at one generic version, but there was so much variability that it became useless.
  12. I used stats from RQ3, Malleus Monstrorum, and Stormbringer (in that order of preference) and made adjustments where necessary.
  13. EMBRP, or Even More Basic Roleplaying, is my bastardized version of BRP that I use for impromptu gaming. It differs from regular BRP in that: - there are only criticals (no specials/impales/etc.) and they're at 1/10 of the skill - HP are CON+SIZ for PCs, and just equal to CON for everyone else - The lowest damage bonus is 1d3, not 1d4 - Most skills have a base chance equal a characteristic (either 1/2, the whole characteristic, 2x or characteristic + characteristic), including weapon skills - Armor is always randomly rolled - APP is back to CHA If needed, an NPC's stats are: - Chump = Characteristics = 10, Skills = 35% - Competent = Characteristics = 13, Skills = 50% - Skilled = Characteristics 15, Skills 75% - Deadly = Characteristics 18, Skills 90% I can run almost any game featuring humans off the top of my head with this version of the system.
  14. 985 downloads

The weapons and armor tables for my BRP Rome campaign (not official, but using Pete Nash's Pax Romana as the inspiration). Note that this uses a variant of BRP I dub (EMBRP - Even More Basic Roleplaying).
  15. If anyone's interested, I've posted some of the files I created for my recent BRP Rome game in the Download section.
  16. 797 downloads

My customized summary sheet for spells for my BRP Rome campaign (not official, but using Pete Nash's Pax Romana as the inspiration).
  17. 757 downloads

A character sheet for my BRP Rome campaign (not official, but using Pete Nash's Pax Romana as the inspiration). Note that this uses a variant of BRP I dub (EMBRP - Even More Basic Roleplaying).
  18. Fixed value. Making it based on weapon type would lead to (in my mind) a significant jump in complexity.
  19. "Skill Ratings over 100%" is an optional rule, but one I imagine will be used frequently. As you can guess, at 101+% you're seeing (some of) the following benefits: - You can split your skill and make multiple attacks - As multiple parries in a round lower your percentage for each use after the first, the benefits are obvious - Situational modifiers (ranging from -10-30%) are less onerous if your skill is over 100% - When skill uses are Difficult (1/2 normal chance), the higher the skill the better - The chance of specials (1/5 normal chance) increases - The chance of criticals (1/20 normal chance increases - Etc. See the section on experience (though it follows the rules from Elric!/Stormbringer).
  20. I'm torn... I got my copy (#1) with a note from Charlie saying "Now write all over it!"
  21. I've got to second this. I've gone through periods where it was nigh-unto-impossible to get Chaosium to reply to an email. When Charlie had my wife and dog over for his big 4th of July barbecue in the summer of 2006 when we were in the East Bay area, I asked him what the problem was, and he told me "You need something, just call me - I'm not good with email."
  22. It originally was an concept for a Michael Kane book for Stormbringer. I'd been hoping to do it a while ago, but relations between Moorcock and Chaosium soured and then the EC license went to Mongoose. I contemplated it as a sourcebook for SotC, and even contacted the Evil Hat guys, but the notion of finishing BRP and going to go work on another unrelated project when BRP needs support the most... I couldn't do that in all conscience. Also, BRP is now, and has always been, my favorite system. I'd like to see the BRP line flourish, and contributing to it is the best thing I can do to help that along.
