  1. When I decided to write a scenario back in October, I did it for a couple of reasons. I needed a distraction from pandemic teaching and being declared expendable. I had been thinking about RPG publishing for decades, but didn't have the "in" that fan creation platforms allowed.

My goal was to sell ten copies. This is amazing. I've now published twice (The Lair of Lo'thysss being the other) and I'm working on my third product now.

    Thanks! 😄

    PS - You too can Koo-Thool-Hoo-publish. 😉

  2. Starter Sets make a heck of a lot more sense than my pitch. 😉 Dual volume sets cost more, which means the risk of pricing some gamers out. With a box model, you sell more product at the lower price point but you get the advantage of being able to sell all of the necessary gazetteer info and scenarios while still getting the benefit of handouts. It would still be nice to accompany it with a hardcover later that is more detailed.

can I take that to mean I should get super hyped for a slipcase set for Gaslight and Dreamlands with multiple volumes, a Keeper Screen and copious handouts and game aids?

I'm just speculating, but it would make sense that they could make both products a Gazetteer book and a scenario book?

If that's is a 40th anniversary  edition why is the 2nd edition (1983) edition shown? The are plenty of 2nd editions still around I would love to replace my first edition that was disposed of by someone who will remain nameless.

Says Rick Meints in the other active thread:

The first edition had one supplement published for it. It was also considered a bit rough and in need of a bit of balancing and refining. Thus, errata came out very quickly, followed by the 2nd edition in about a year. We decided the 2nd edition is superior, and more playable. Any background or scenario related info that was cut from the 1st edition has been included as bonus material in this remastered 2nd edition. We did a comparison of the 1st and 2nd edition rulebooks and the leap was small enough, and clear enough that the 2nd edition was the way to go, plus it had more and better art than the first edition. In some ways, we did what we did with RuneQuest Classic. We mainly focused on the getting the 2nd edition available again, for much of the same reasons.

So will we be able to pick and choose which components we can get? Can I get just the box with the original books and map or is it everything pictured or nothing?

Don't know for sure yet, but it is likely an all-or-none. Chaosium wants to produce this in time for the 40th later this year, and it's harder to do that if people pick-and-choose. That would make logistics and shipping an absolute nightmare. As @lordabdul commented on social media, there may only be one buy-in choice.

First edition had the BRP rulebook and a separate Call of Cthulhu rulebook and you needed to reference both. Second edition took the relevant rules from the BRP rulebook and put them in the Call of Cthulhu one.

You can see the BRP rulebook in this post that Chaosium posted on their blog a few months ago. With 3rd edition I believe they split the existing Call of Cthulhu rulebook into a GM booklet and a Player booklet but not 100% positive on that bit.

Several of the later supplements were also written using 2nd Edition as well, I expect?

First and Second are practically indistinguishable?

  7. In celebration of the release of The Lair of Lo'thysss CoC encounter sandbox, I've discounted my scenario Test Subjects. Get it for 2 USD instead of 3 USD, through this link, through the end of July: https://t.co/tjFl18VnZ0?amp=1

I've released two products now on DriveThruRPG for Call of Cthulhu 7th. I've designed them so that they can be used completely independently of each other, or combined into one big scenario/sandbox.

Test Subjects is an exploratory scenario that focuses on the Boston underground. Spoilers for Keepers:

    Spoiler

It involves Serpent People and Gate travel across the US.

The Lair of Lo'thysss is a sandbox encounter location that is a "behind-the-scenes" look at what the investigators don't see in Test Subjects. It retails for 5 USD.

So, if you purchase both, you get a huge 54-page sandbox/scenario for 8 USD retail, or 7 USD with the current discount!
