  1. Since it's in the design journal, I guess it'll also be in the final version of the 6th Edition. However, it probably'll end in the GM's Book and not in the Corebook that will be published in April, since this is mostly a GM thing.

Anyway, if you're interested in the topic, the Book of Feasts is still available on Chaosium's website (https://www.chaosium.com/book-of-feasts-pdf/). Indeed, it uses Geniality and a Feast Deck, and is probably fairly similar to the system you'll find in the 6th Ed. books... Barring a few corrections/tweaks here and there, I suppose!

There was an adventure "La Dama Misteriosa" in the magazine Nivel 9 #10, written by Ricardo Dorda. I wonder if it's the same one?

Yes, at first sight it's the same identical adventure (identical chapter names, etc.), but with a different layout. The only difference is that the stand-alone version also includes 5 pregenerated Player-knights, with a relatively brief background for each one.

I completely forgot that the same adventure was published in Nivel 9!

  3. I've found another 2 official Spanish products (from Nosolorol) in my archive:

La Dama Misteriosa (The Mysterious Lady) - stand-alone introductory adventure

A la Caza de la Bestia (Beast Hunting) - stand-alone introductory adventure

I don't know whether they can be considered "magazine articles" or "supplements", probably the latter...

They were sold as PDF-only products, as part of a multi-system adventure collection that was directly crowdfunded by the publisher a few years ago. Unfortunately, in the meantime Nosolorol has stopped translating Pendragon and is no more selling ANY Pendragon products.

I'm not sure if I want to start a tab for this kind of thing -- that would be an enormous list! I have a day job! 😀

Well, let's just say that any small contribution to increasing our collective knowledge of published (or self-published, in this case) KAP-rlated material is really, really welcome to me and I suspect to most other fans as well!

So, no need to start a comprehensive list of ALL Arthurian games out there, or of ALL self-published KAP or KAP-adjacent products. But if everyone of us posts here the KAP or KAP-related products they find over the web, we would be collectively more informed and richer (in KAP material, at least).

Just my 2 cents. And of course, if you think a new thread should be used for this purpose, more power to you! I'll do just that.

  5. It's not strictly related to MAGAZINE articles, however there is at least one Pendragon adventure available on itch.io:

    Enemy of the Hearth, https://we-evolve.itch.io/enemy-of-the-hearth

and one article on hacking KAP:

    Hacking Pendragon, https://padgettish.itch.io/hacking-pendragon

There's also a (relative) wealth of adventures/interactive fiction/tales written for the "Pendragon Campfire Tales" system, which appears to be frankly Arthurian and at least KAP-adjacent.

Bíborhold and Holdtölte are the same periodical, which underwent a name change after issue #25. The files have been uploaded to the files section of the lfg.hu forums here: https://lfg.hu/forum/files/category/9-magazinok/page/3/

In addition, Alanori Krónika, another gaming magazine from the 80s-90s has been uploaded to the publisher's website here: https://www.beholder.hu/?m=ak&in=ak_archivum.php

    Thanks!!

I found a couple of Hungarian RPG magazines from the 80s, 90s, and 00s, that the original publishers have made available online. There's a lot of Shadowrun and Cyberpunk (seems to have been very popular), but I did find an article of interest:

    • In Bíborhold #19 (June 1994), there's an article titled "Keresztes háborúk" ("Crusades") which briefly covers the historicity of the crusades. At the end of the article, the author includes a short paragraph for Pendragon, including giving Muslim virtues and religious bonus.
    • In Holdtölte #31 (June 1995), there's an adventure for Pendragon called "Apró szívesség" ("A Small Favor"). Looks like the author is signed Mordred...
    • In Holdtölte #32 (July 1995), there's an article "Heraldika" which is a detailed treatment of heraldry. System neutral, but useful for Pendragon.

    Thanks @AlHazred! Very interesting!
Can you share the links to these online magazines?

I've heard there was a small Pendragon fan community in Italy. I've heard of Italian gaming magazines Kappa (at least in 1991, the first two issues had RPG content), Fuori dal Tempo (also seems to have published RPG material in 1991), Kaos (ran from 1991-2002), X (a spin-off magazine from Kaos focused on RPG material), and E Giochi and Giochi (these two might be the same magazine -- RPGGeek is less helpful in this regard since "giochi" in this context means "games"). For a variety of reasons, my Google skills are failing me on these. I have no idea if any of these have Pendragon content, sadly.

I know for sure (I am located in Italy!) that until now Pendragon has never been translated into Italian. As a consequence, it is extremely unlikely for any KAP adventure or other content to have been published in any Italian magazine.
I have read all Kaos and X issues at the time when they were published, and I don't remember any KAP content (obviously, my recollection could be incorrect, since 25-30 years have passed since then).

If someone wants to peruse them, 99 issues of Kappa seem to be available on the Internet Archive:

    that contradicts what David said

Yes, he (being "someone who workd for Chaosium") probably knows something I don't. However, I think that Chaosium cannot offer PVRPG until it renews the license (unless they have some old copies remaining?), so until they say so, it's better to expect nothing in this regard.

Also, please not that the project HAS already gone to BK, and surveys are currently closed there (I believe, it's listed as "ended"):
    https://www.backerkit.com/c/project_searches?search[text]=arthurian+concordance&button=
    https://king-arthur-library.backerkit.com/
Addresses will be locked when the books are ready to ship. So, again, I don't know whether orders will be re-opened at some future time, but maybe David knows this from some inside source!

Sorry David, but most of us hear anything about it in  four years. That'snot a good sing for a kickstarter. Has Chaosium managed to renew the license for Prince Valiant? The last posts from MOB and Rick Meints, in 2019, didn't indicate so. Also, any idea when the Concordance will be available?

I'm a backer, and I can thus share a few details that non-backers probably don't know.

The Graphic Novel and the Arthurian Concordance (now renamed "Arthurian Companion") in electronic format have already been sent to backers.
Two Kickstarter updates have been published in August and December 2023, and the December update included a tentative timeline for the print versions, and assurance that the project is alive and will be fulfilled.

Is this project in time? No. Is it one of the main priorities at Chaosium? Of course not. However, it has survived the deaths of its original publisher (Stewart Wieck) and of one of the authors and main proponents (Greg Stafford), and seems now to be close to completeness.

If you are interested in the Prince Valiant RPG specifically, it was offered (together with KAP 5.2) as an add-on at the time, so I suspect this part was fulfilled right then, when both books were available (i.e., backers who chose these add-ons have probably received them a few years ago), and of course the PVRPG will not be offered anymore, in any form, until (if) Chaosium renews its license.

I’m at my wits end trying to find any copy of the Prince Valiant Second Edition rule book. If anyone can point me in a direction to get it I would be incredibly grateful. Otherwise I shall surrender my search for my grail.

I think I bought two copies of BOTH the rulebook and the Adventures book. I will check and, if it's true, I can sell both to you at cover price.
However, please note that I live in Italy, so depending on your location shipping fees can be really nasty.

BTW, this reminded me about one movie i watched as kid, which had Guinevere as protagonist. In this version she are from pagan kingdom, even student of Morgan le Fay at first. There was interesting moment during her wedding, when she annoyed that upon conversion to christianity she no longer allowed to wield weapon, since church forbid it (it didn't actually, but this is common stereotype), and she now have to rely on her knights for protection.

Was this "Guinevere", the 1994 TV movie? This one?

Just played through the Solo Quest. Nowhere (that I could see) was Major Wound explained during the Bohort (or anywhere else in the Solo Quest book)...I ended up assuming it was a quarter of your HP in one hit. I also ended up in a situation where we both landed successful hits, both took damage and both ended up unconscious...which isn't catered for in the options. Otherwise, what a great intro to the rules!!

According to Book 2, Major Wound = CON (and yes, from a single blow).
And yes, this Derived Characteristic should have been included in Book 1, p. 5, "character sheet".
Also in Book 1, p. 5, "character sheet": "Unconcious" should obviously be "Unconscious".

I haven't translated 4e and 5e yet, but I hear that 5e further simplifies past lives by condensing them into skills and having them unrated. Instead, these "experiences" apply a bonus or penalty to relevant rolls a la FATE's Aspects. That certainly sounds like it would make recalling new past lives during play very easy to adjudicate. Under BRP that's basically impossible to do.

This is not exact: in the 5th edition, past or present "lives" ("vécus") are rated on a 1-10 scale, which is then multiplied by 10 to obtain a percentage to roll under. So, it is quite easy to devise a BRP variant, where each vécu is a "skill group" rated 1-100. Each vécu is a skill group since it includes all knowledges, abilities, skills and aptitudes that are commonly, or conceivably, associated with that vécu: e.g., a "medieval female condottiere" vécu could include abilities related to diplomacy, financial administration, accounting, sword combat, dodge, shield use, horse riding, communication skills, leadership, Italian geography, catholic religion, strategy and tactics, outdoor survival, encampment life, travel. All these skills have the same rating as the vécu itself.
If you want to enhance your success chances, you can use Ka-points, with 1 Ka-point = +10% to the vécu rating. However, this (called "approach") is risky, since it makes your metamorphosis visible and the Minor Arcana much more likely to pinpoint and find your location.
If none of your vécus can be construed as providing skills suitable for the task at hand, you can use "Sapience Points" ("wisdom points", basically experience points) for a one-off use of a skill that was until now not included in any of your vécus: you spend 1 SP for each 10% of success chance you want to buy. This is called a "Mnemos effect", because in-game you are supposed to suddenly have a reminiscence of events you didn't remember until now. Basically, you have to invent a story to explain why that specific vécu has acquired the desired skill (for example, if the needed skill was "mathematics", the condottiere came from a noble family and thus had learned mathematics from a tutor when she was young). If you spend 5 more SPs (in addition to the ones already spent to buy the success chance), this effect becomes permanent and you add this skill to your vécu's description.

Of course, in BRP you don't have experience points, so it's difficult to include the Mnemos effect in the system.

What are the grapple rules in 5.2? Just curious.

Grapple is an opposed DEX vs. DEX roll. If the grappler wins,  they can:

    - throw down the opponent, doing 1D6 damage (2D6 if the opponent was mounted);
    - immobilize the opponent, so that next round they can strip the opponent's helm and demand surrender (rules for this are provided as well);
    - immobilize the opponent, preventing them from using weapons.

In the last two cases, the opponent can try an opposed STR vs. STR roll to free themselves.

  16. IIRC, the original paper book had the central part of the map directly glued to the spine, without white buffer space, so there was a small unreadable space at the center. Unless someone has access to the original (probably handwritten on paper) document of the map, these small central parts are likely lost forever.
However, I have tried to put back together the electronic map, and the blank parts are really small, mostly 1-2 characters wide. Complete names can probably be rewritten by comparison with placename lists in the book.

@Max_Writer, if my rebuilt electronic map can be useful, just PM me and I'll send you a copy.

I have got the Book of Knights and Ladies, but it's the Nocturnal edition.

And I plan to use it to create the knights on friday's evening. But the question is if, after making the name-correction Spiritual instead of Pious, are there any other relevant changes I should mind of?

@Primo Cavaliere, from my experience, any knight created with the rules of editions 3-5.2 (including of course edition 5.0) is pretty much compatible with any other edition, so you shouldn't have to worry too much about this aspect. I think BoK is really a good choice for beginning playing in a short time, since it gives you fast but complete(-ish) creation rules. Then, when you receive your 5.2 rules, you can go in deeper in any rule details you would like to.

This situation is also VERY lucky for GMs/players, since you can pick up any KAP adventure/supplement/geographic book for any edition and use it almost straight away for your game, whatever the specific edition you are using for it!

  18. I think this specific project is in the editing stage.

According to the latest update by the book editor, James Lowder, on Kickstarter (June 30th), "On the current schedule, backers will have the [Arthurian] Companion PDF by the end of July." [the Arthurian Companion and Annotated Le Morte were included in the same Kickstarter project]. Then, "My schedule will shift to the Annotated Le Morte in August. [...] Le Morte will be my primary Chaosium focus after Gen Con."

So, still no tentative release date, but the project should see significant advancements in Autumn.

  19. @Stan Shinn, If you're interested in a condensed version of the rules, you could do worse than to look at "Book of Knights", which is now available as a PDF download for a mere 3 USD (https://www.chaosium.com/the-book-of-knights-pdf/). Although there is some minor difference between these rules and the 3rd/4th/5th/5.Xth versions, they are surely minor enough tat they can be disregarded for an introductory campaign. Surely easier to learn than the full-fledged rules of any KAP edition!
