Well, the adventure book in the gamemasters screen pack has a rather splendid drawing of Apple Lane, so you get a very good picture of what the whole village looks like.

    https://www.chaosium.com/runequest-gamemaster-screen-pack/

or if you go to red bubble and type in Apple Lane, you get to maps you can get, so you can see for yourself!

    https://www.redbubble.com/i/canvas-print/Apple-Lane-by-Olivier-Sanfilipo-by-Chaosium/34385206.5Y5V7

The overall layout hasn't changed from RQii Apple Lane, but the buildings have changed in appearance, for example the timber walled Tin Inn is now stone.  But then I'm not sure how accurate the drawing is on the frontcover of RQii Apple Lane, as the ground floor of Gringle's has a sloping roof in the plans, not flat.

By the 1625 picture Gringles pawn shop is in partial ruins, but almost all of the ground floor and roof is intact so you get a good impression.

The Sartar Companion (HeroQuest) has an adventure revisiting Gringle Pawnshop, but there's no pictures or plans that expand on the RQii Apple Lane.

The buildings' sizes have changed radically. They are now only about 1/3 of their RQII sizes.

The way I imagine how a Sartarite mindset would see/equate it in their mind is that Pavis County is their "tribe." The actual ruling council of Pavis is the tribal ring, since they fulfill much the same duty that an actual tribe would fulfill, mediating conflicts between different clans and giving them all a voice and so on.

So instead of Loyalty (Tribe), a Pavisite would have Loyalty (Pavis) instead.

I'm not sure about this. Iirc they only decided on stuff happening in the city and Badside. There was an Orlanthi high priest in the city, but I doubt that he was an Orlanth Rex member like the kingly high priests in Sartar.

does that mean if you're fighting a woad covered warrior, the first round you should try and put a hat on them?

Rules would say so. Though there are no rules saying how difficult it would be, but I'd require some wrestling checks.

There are defined clans in Pavis GTA (and earlier) products:

Dorosar Clan, destroyed by the Lunars, but hopefully an heir will reappear to form it.

Left, there there is the Garhound, Bullford and Althimandi clans and a few other minor clans.

As @metcalph said treat the riverfolk and old Pavis families as non-sartarite clans.

You mean Dorasar Tribe? And are the citizens of Pavis also clanmembers?

  5. My last similar thread was a great success:

So now it's time for another; what are clothes? The Bless Woad spell's description (RuneQuest Roleplaying in Glorantha p. 322) states that: "If the wearer ever puts on armor or clothing, the woad immediately loses all its magic power." Are belts clothes? And can you carry a shield or a backpack on your back without losing the blessed woad's powers?

I think when Belintar was around, the Holy Country was like Tamriel in the Elder Scrolls - six lands, each with their own strong identity, landscape, and even light and weather!

Wouldn't it be the other way round? Since a RQ writer was the Lead Designer of Elder Scrolls.

From the Guide; " Arkat Returns Five times! The ways of Heroquesting are abruptly opened, and it isn’t what everyone expected. One is a troll, one is a Chaos monster, and no one is quite sure which incarnation the other three are." One the remaining three Arkats is a Duck, which certainly no one expected. However, no one believes him. "But honest and truly, I am Arkat!" He attempts to prove that he is Arkat to anyone he meets by imitating some past feat of the ancient hero. These always spectacularly backfire. One day, an attempt will backfire so badly that it will end the Third Age, thus proving his point.

All the remaining three are the same duck. Arkat's mother was trying to lay the egg against the wind.

I don't believe the photograph was of an actress - and I have altered the nose and lips... and the shape of the face reflects what I drew, not the face I took the nose and lips from.

Today: mount inked, scanned, and shaded. More shading done this this was posted, as my desktop screen gives better resolution than the laptop so I am able to smooth the shading.

What's that bit of barding called?

  9. The clan chief is also their clan's chief priests of Orlanth, and the King is the tribe's high priest of Orlanth, so if they give Orlanth's worshippers gifts, it would be a bit silly if the worshippers had to give some of the gifts back the same instant because of tax reasons. Giving reciprocal gifts to gift givers is an important part of the local customs, but it's imo different from taxes.

I'd rule that the curse is they don't have wings to fly, so the Rune spell Flight allows them to fly as any other Orlanthi.

That's not the only cult that gives them that ability, there's also the Cannon cult.

??? I'm pretty sure the shaman tracks down the spirit, fights it, and forces it to teach the spell to the intended recipient... So, no scarcity involved. Also, I'd hazard a guess that the same X6 bearing spirit is probably the same one to call upon for all of X1-X5 as well...

If it's a priest (GL, RL) teaching the spell, since it will be a cult spell, they'd have that spell in mind anyway... Sure, some amount of supply and demand (not every Humakti will know Bladesharp 6), but I'd imagine every Humakti Rune level (the ones required to teach as part of the job) will have Bladesharp 3, so that supply and demand / scarcity argument fails, as does the spell capacity. Again, teaching X1 is effectively the same as teaching X6...

Yeah, I've not understood the logic of it either. The only reason I can think of is game balance.

What are common, cross-culturally understood symbols (like a white flag) that a person in Dragon Pass might display to an enemy (Sartarite, Lunar, Troll, etc...) to communicate peaceful intent and a desire to parley?

The Harmony rune carried on a staff. I know that I've seen pics of it, but I can't find them atm.

We just ignore scales half the time :D (we don't always use a battlemat)

Yeah, whenever possible, I don't draw any tactical maps for players, and instead just describe the events. But this is a very tactical scenario, and I'll probably run it online too, so maps with scales are needed to know where a character or enemy can move in a round, and where the characters can shoot.
