  1. I went ahead and ordered Masks today. Everything I read about it sounded amazing. Looking forward to running it after Two-Headed Serpent. I've read some articles saying it runs even better as a pulp campaign than purist.
  2. Has anyone run Masks of Nyarlathotep using Pulp Cthulhu? I'm wondering if it remains great with pulp, and what pulp level is recommended. I just started Two-Headed Serpent, but I'm thinking about grabbing Masks for later while it's easily available. It's something I've always wanted to own anyway. I'm just not sure how my group would take a long campaign in classic Cthulhu with high PC body counts.
  3. Thanks for the input! I think I'll let it ride this campaign, and if it seems overpowered I'll limit it to 5 next campaign. Only 1 PC took it, and they are a melee fighter so they will have their own problems anyway.
  4. Looking more at Augmented Skills, does anyone have any suggestions how Augmented Firearms would actually work? To use an Augmented Skill you need to roll under either an Extreme success or your Cthulhu Mythos skill for even partial success. This carries over fairly poorly for firearms in combat, unless you roll at the beginning of combat to try to activate it, separately from actual rolls to hit targets. This also touches on a bit of disappointment I have in the Augmented Skills, in that they are so difficult to actually put to use (5% of skill and/or CM skill).
  5. First, there's some confusion because the example of using Luck to halve Sanity Loss makes it sound like you can only use Resilient after doing this. Second, the NPC Resilient Talent is different, only allowing 5 Sanity to be erased with Luck. Which is correct? Third, has anyone had a PC with this Talent in a game? Is it overpowered? Feels like it will make Sanity a non-issue (which may be fine for Pulp anyway)
  6. Pulp Cthulhu Dual-Wielding is pretty mechanically easy with handguns, but a bit more confusing for melee. If you are wielding 2 melee weapons, does the opponent get a penalty die against the second attack (for the "outnumbered" rule)? I guess the same could be asked about fighting monsters with multiple attacks.
  7. That's a great description! Thanks! I'll likely order some of these.
  8. Seth Skorkowski is awesome. Are the dice easy to read? I almost never use my fancy Q Workshop type dice because they are hard to read.
  9. That's correct. So a tank with 20 Build can withstand a few hits with a tank gun (15d10), unless it impales (150 damage + 15d10) which will probably kill it outright.
  10. Augmented Psychology could see "what evil lurks in the hearts of men "
  11. I really like the Insane Talents Augmented Skills from Pulp Cthulhu. I can totally see Augmented Stealth working for something like The Shadow's power to cloud men's minds. Anyone got some other ideas they have used in games?
  12. Also buying one if I see it before they run out.
  13. In all seriousness, I hope this is a "joke" or troll topic, because the push mechanic is one of my (many) favorite things about this edition, and the original post makes no sense. (also, of course you have a better chance of success when rolling again, and you can't discuss the rule while leaving out the consequences which are the main part of the rule.)
  14. My critique to this post with simulated numbers: 10.956%
  15. This definitely puts my Hudson & Brand game on hold until I have the official gaslight book to supplement it. Can't wait!
  16. If I understand your question correctly, is you call for a Hard Success, then the results remain the same. So Hard is what they need (50% of skill), and Extreme success is the same 20%.
  17. Is there a price / gear guide for gaslight anywhere? It seems to be the only thing I'm now lacking to run a campaign.
  18. I ended up getting the Hudson & Brand book, plus The Spirits of London and The Thirteen, all in print. It's going to be like 8 weeks for the print versions to get here, but at least I've got the PDFs too.
  19. Does the Hudson & Brand book require the old gaslight book?
  20. I love it, but ymmv. It's definitely not necessary, but it has more of everything, plus great info about the 20's, etc. I personally consider it highly useful, especially if you plan on running some non-pulp Cthulhu at some point.
  21. I was wondering this too. Either way is cool I guess.
  22. Here's the link to the announcement in case someone hasn't seen it. (And now I also notice that it answers my questions at the bottom of the article) https://www.chaosium.com/blogcults-of-cthulhu-is-coming-this-halloween/
  23. Looking forward to this book. So the pdf is available on Oct 31, with the book coming later? And is the full price of the PDF discounted from the book purchase later? (I haven't used this option before.) I really like things that can be dropped right into a campaign, and this book sounds packed with material like that. Also, the three time spanning scenarios sounds cool too. (Might also pick up A Time to Harvest while I'm at it.)
