that is the rules I bought
new rules may vary but for the moment the "double max" rule is just an answer in the forum and may be more explained / worked (and could be more consistent) Chaosium team makes a great job to answer so many questions, sometimes complex, sometimes so obvious. I m not sure the "double max" is exactly what they mean, but a quick answer to manage the flow of rules questions
Nope. That's been corrected and clarified

OK, but how does the special and critical crush work when you have a negative damage bonus?
Should be fairly rare. I mean most people are not going to use a crushing weapon with negative dam bonus unless it's in extremis or improvised. However at that point I'd rule the negative dam bonus went to minimum loss so the crit does the max possible damage for that person.
So shall we say they're doing 1d10+2 Weapon "plus" -1d6 dam bonus I would rule :- 10+2-2 = 10 and ignores armour.
Just IMHO of course.

On the other hand, this is super-important.
It really is. Certainly as BwT have been playing it as otherwise stacking various spells for years in sequence becomes rather easy. Sure Shield and Axe Trance dont let you lead normal lives. But Charisma and various other spells do. Of course that may well be worth it in some cases but that's a nice crunchy set of choices for players and I'm all in favour of options. Sure you can stack x but it's going to mean you have no or limited rune pool for the duration. Oh, your comrade is down and really needs a Heal Wound? Shame.

Specific ETAs not given because we don't have them yet, although the Pegasus Plateau might be done with layout around the end of March.
Squuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee <ahem> for a any number of reasons. Not least I plan on running a bunch of players through online games soon. Plus another reason or two.

It's clear what Scotty says (although going back to an old post and editing it makes it very easy to make mistakes). It's not even remotely clear to me where he finds it in the rules. To me, it looks like just a mistake.
Critical impale (page 203) - twice the maximum damage plus roll damage bonus (plus magic damage bonus if any). Weapon is stuck in body.
Critical slash (page 204) - twice maximum damage plus roll damage bonus (plus magic damage bonus if any)
Critical crush (page 206) - Maximum weapon damage plus maximum damage bonus twice (plus magic damage bonus if any)
AND
Special Crush (page 206) rolled weapon damage plus rolled Damage Bonus plus Maximum Damage Bonus.
Critical Crush (page 206) Maximum weapon damage plus twice Maximum Damage Bonus, ignores armour.

Reading the entire thread is indeed confusing. However having done so it's pretty clear. You could perhaps read it as a new ruling on the rules. Scotty and Jason have stated what it is. I get that there is a desire for a grand design mech that explains it all, but there isnt. There's a very clear statement of both what a Impale, Slash and Crush crit means and seperately what a Crush special and crit look like. I can re quote them if you are browsing on a small screen and have trouble seeing them?

Except it's not. By other rulings, your "normal" damage bonus is not part of Special Damage - that's why you don't get maximized damage bonus on a slashing crit. By symmetry, only one instance of (maximized) damage bonus is part of the Crushing damage that gets maximized, and the second must be rolled as usual. It would be super weird if your regular damage bonus was maximized on a crushing crit but not on the slashing crit - where's that in the rules?
I think that's just a case of overly quick editing, because it has no textual support and isn't even consistent with the other rules.
No. It's very very clear. Rule against it in your game all you want. YGMV

my view
crushing special : (weapon normal damage + bonus normal damage) + bonus normal damage (the special)
crushing crit : (weapon full damage + bonus normal damage) + bonus max damage (the special)
YGMV but that is not the ruling

"If a critical crush is rolled it does the maximum crushing damage, which is twice the maximum damage bonus plus the maximum weapon damage."
Thats quote.

but might take them out as they are probably too high-level for a Jonstown Compendium supplement.
Given RQG is a higher power level to start and people have been playing a year or so now :- Go for it I say. Frankly we're going to need some bad bad dudes shortly.

Just to piggyback on this thread. Is it better to get the original Griffin Mountain or the Moon Design version? And does it include scenarios?
Moon Design is pretty much the Definitive Edition.

I have currently no game, but if I had, it would: I can only leave home for work and purchase food.
Maybe consider online? There's a fair few pick up games of RQG online

It adds Soldier's Port (which you could potentially use somewhere in the setting, or just borrow characters from). Might have been one or two inns added.
Also added Granny Keeneye, which was probably the most interesting addition.
I felt the "loss" of Glorantha was a big negative though. My Griffin Mountain book ranks among my top 3, most used, most worn RQ/Glorantha texts.
I've said a few times if I was starting over with RQG I would be tempted to start at Griffin Mountain. Possibly as a prequel to the forthcoming Sartar Campaign Jeff and co are working on. Right now my players are sat around Apple lane and its Dark of 1626. Pretty soon I have a lot of significant events happening and I'm not sure what to do about that. My Co-GM has nabbed the Prax option and I was going to peal left to Grazelands and now I know there's a Grazelands book coming also.....

I've been seeing a ton of negative effects of this virus other than just symptoms, including Chaosium postponing their convention in the land down under, so it got me thinking...
Has this crisis been harming your gaming or making it difficult to play? Have you had to switch to playing over Discord or Skype or Roll20 to overcome it?
Quite the reverse. New Group/Campaign (1610 but using RQG) in addtion to the 2 RQG 1626 and 1 Witcher TTRPG I already play in. Only the Witcher game runs face-face so I guess that might get impacted later. We're good so far.
On the negative side my monthly Hit-People-With-Chunks-of-metal practise got cancelled.

Having both, when I was playing RQ 3 I would use the StatBlocks from Griffin Island, (especially the sorcerers) but everything else from GM.
There were also some addons published in WD for GI back when GW put out the UK addition. Which were rather good iirc.

Coooooooooooooooool Beans. I cant quite recall if there's a copy in my vault of the previous edition. I'm not Rick Meints but I do have to use a spreadsheet to keep track of my RQ library.
