Oh, sure. My point isn't that you always want this, but that MPs quickly stop being much of a limitation on anything. (Both dispel and spirits can easily get countered, though - defensive boosting for the dispels, and using that 1000+% sword in spirit combat against spirits.)

Defensive boosting is a something that is not settled 100% the wording is certainly not clear (it has been discussed in another thread) and it has not been played that way in the past. Sword Trance +1000% would take 100 magic points, that's about 10 rounds of casting.

This is one reason why the Magic Point system doesn't really work, at least not as a limitation to spellcasting. Any PCs with a bit of experience will have enough crystals and matrices on them that MP expenditures become trivial. This way lies +1000% Sword Trances.

Only if no one in your Game ever puts conditions on those things.

Yes "+1000% Sword Trances" are good, but there are many, many ways to take someone like that down like some Multispelled Disrupts or a Dispel/Dismiss Magic or setting a spirit or two after the person.

And on a chaotic entity? There is an exemple in the Guide that says that tapping Stasis out of a rock turns it into dust, and tapping people results in making them servile apparently? So tapping a bro results in? It becomes a regular goat? A pre-greater darkness broo? It's just destroyed? A chaotic swamp lays next to Akem, that would be a good place to start digging.

Well, Broo are a race the same as Trolls and Humans. You can not tap the Broo out of them. You can tap Chaos out of them, if you had that type of a spell.

If I recall, the general idea was that Griffin Island would be somewhat north/northwest of Slon, otherwise it gets too close to Jrustela.  And since Luathela is a somewhat mythic place, partially into the Hero Plane/Outer World, that works ok.

Yeap, that's where I put it. Here the actual post:

The island is located in the Brown Sea, otherwise known as the Kerenth Sea, north of Slon and west of Jurstela.
What? You say you do not see an island there? Is there .... just left of the edge.

And heraldry also uses sirens, wolves, snakes, griffins, dragons...

Specialists (dungeoneers?) are still looking for shields with painted kobolds, goblins and trolls.

Funny you should mentioned that. I needed to know where the sea was because that is one of the locations mentioned for placing Griffin Island if playing in Glorantha and my version has kobolds, goblins and trolls there.

Overall I suspect sorcerers from the Young Kingdoms would find Glorantha a bad place to visit and they wouldn't want to live there.

Agreed, except within the Lunar Empire. Even among chaotics their existence is precautious after all what Thanitari or a Vivamorti would not love getting a hold of them

Most groups we played were troll heavy which meant we had a lot of anti Chaos magic. Getting hold of a Virtuous weapon also helped a lot.

Ruleswise, nothing ever permits to think it can occur.

Glorantha wise, of course it can occur. This is a fantasy world, but I don't remember having read anything in something RQ that lead to this conclusion.

Not in the rules, but I remember seeing this in various discussions on Boristi, as well as them running around "cleansing" people of all chaotics taints and then killing them with clean soul.

    Rules effect wise nothing happens.

In-glorantha this is what is known as the Borist heresy.  People believe they become chaotic by tapping chaos (even if it's not true).

I did put a spin on this some time ago by having the Boristi tap chaos within ordinary people so as to make them pure and worthy of Solace.  Their wizards use that tapped chaos to form chaotic monsters (gorp, dragonsnails, giant flying hands) obedient to their will.  But a Storm Bull's sense chaos does not work against the Boristi because they are not themselves chaotic  So they are devilishly hard to suppress.

Until they start sprouting Chaos Features

And could make for some humorous situations as the PC's spirit suddenly visibly pops up in various places across Sartar or Prax (Argrath's tent, Cragspider's den, a Uleria temple, the Jonstown Library, etc.).

Way, way ahead of you on that 😁

He could use it, but there's no guarantee that where he appears as anywhere near where his body is (the Spirit World is not necessarily a strict overlay).

Finally a use for that spell for a PCs.

Basically, half the reason to go to war is to loot. I dont see a warlord who makes a habit of giving loot back to the enemy having many friends in the long run.

We had a character who named his brother Loot, and he was always looking for him. No stone went unturned in search of Loot .... and so on.

  12. This is the closest thing I found so far out of GoG v1:

    Quote

Tapping is the sorcerous conversion of a local manifestation of a Rune into raw magical energy, which then can be used by the sorcerer to power other spells. For example, a sorcerer learned in the Stasis Rune, might tap the Stasis out of a rock, reducing it to dust, or another might tap the Life out of a tree, killing the orchard to get magical power. Most Malkioni, except the Brithini, Vadeli, and Waertagi, consider Tapping to be immoral and evil.

    Aeolians, Arkati and Lunars

This is of course these are my personal opinions.

Aeolians - basically Orlanthi and would not use any Tapping as it is considered Chaos.

Arkati - would not use Tapping as they would view it as going down a slippery slope towards Chaos.

Lunars - already have an association with Chaos, so its more of the individual choice. I would say there are schools which accept it, and other which do not. In fact I see internal conflict between these aka Hong Kong martial arts movies.

Please check my previous post. If we apply RQ3's tapping restrictions (GoG p45), Hrestoli and Rokari are not allowed to tap, Brithini, Borists and Galvosti may tap people with restrictions (and we don't know anything about tapping non living things) and we don't know anything for others, especially non malkioni. And the only usage of tap spells in an official RQ product I remember is in 'Griffin Island', which is non Gloranthan.

Sounds like useable frame work until a official material is released
