  1. No, I was planning to release it free on this site. It's at least on a hold for now, maybe I'll use some of the ideas for another setting later, or some stuff that can be put in the fanzine. I just e-mailed the author, hopefully we can get him over here to answer some questions himself. SGL.
  2. My Islandia project was in the very early start of planning. I had gotten hold of all the background research I needed and had some clear plans of where to take it, but had done little actual writing. Pedro has been working on the Mythic Iceland setting for several months now, and have gotten pretty far with it. It at least sound very good. So, I'll just let him do the work, and then enjoy the setting when it's published. That way I can concentrate more on improving BRP Central (a gallery is next I think). SGL.
  3. You forgot insane! That's what happens when you play too much Call!
  4. A fantasy earth Vikings setting is on its way for Basic Roleplaying. It will be based on the Icelandic Sagas, the Eddas, and the fairy tales of Iceland. The magical and mythical aspects from the Eddas and the Sagas will be incorporated into the setting, and much attention will be given to the elves, using the legends of the huldufólk. The author is Pedro Ziviani, a historian living on Iceland, who have worked on the project for many months now. The first partial draft of the book is to be delivered to Chaosium this month (October). I'm really looking forward to this one! :-)
  5. My character Lugger, a INT 8 trollkin with a common sense skill of 40%, was exploring Fjallhallenberg Castle with Gavlin, a dwarf who had saved his life on numerous occations before (with DIs on a couple of occations too). During a relatively easy fight, Lugger fumbles and hits nearest friend for critical damage. With his shortsword with Firesword Deluxe cast on it, he choppes off the top of Gavlin's head. Horrified, glues Gavlin's head back on, and DI to Zorak Zoran to resurrect him (failing his common sense roll). Gavlin's wakes up, but seems a bit brain damaged - and Lugger have to tell him what to do in the start. When the other members in the group wanted to take Gavlin's stuff (he was carrrying Iron ringmail and plate, Mostal's spare axe, and extreme amounts of matrixes, crystals and other magic), Lugger had to tell him to kill anyone who tried to steal from him. After some weeks of having to be told what to, he seemed to be back to normal. His player was pissed as h*ll! Gavlin Grudgemaker, an automated Zorani Zombie with an extensive set of embedded commands, is currently the innkeeper of Alastor's Skull Inn in the Big Rubble.
  6. Colin Brett's Home Page What's the second one? Sverre.
  7. The dice roller is up and working! [roll0] What's your SAN Rurik? (I knew you'd be back once polls where mentioned!) Sverre.
  8. Glad to have you onboard! :-) Yup. If you check the link list, there's actually a guy who have taken the effort to create a BRP conversion out of Middle Earth. Sverre.
  9. Some words of wisdom there. Sverre.
  10. To be honest, I'm not sure if there's anyone here who would like to discuss Greg's latest. I think the Greg-followers all play HeroQuest. People still playing BRP follow the system more than the setting. The late Glorantha Digest and World of Glorantha is probably a better place to discuss what kind of grass you can find in Pamaltela, and other interesting tidbits. SGL.
  11. And now you can vote it too!!! (By the way, can you guys also construct polls or is it only limited to me for the time being? Could someone maybe try to make a poll about the wiki-thing?) SGL.
  12. One stayed dead. He was torn in two at the abdomen, so no chance of resurrection there. We have a houserule of instant, un-resurrectable death if sever of head, chest or abdomen. Also, piercing or smashing weapons are considered to sever (not only maim) a location if they do tripple location damage. Otherwise death at zero hit points. In and around Pavis Resurrection is not much of a problem. But we've had a lot of characters die true death because it would take several days to get hold of one, when out in the wilderness. Sverre.
  13. Yesterday or party of Ulask worshipping warriors where travelling to the Ghost Fort in the Big Rubble. One party member (a huge dark troll) was torn into two parts by a rhino-broo ram, another was clubbed to death by a bison broo, and I had to use my one-use Flight 2 to avoid certain death with my weapon arm out. We did manage to kills the broos in the end though. But they had NO LOOT! Frack! Sverre.
  14. HQ also have it's own forum. Glorantha does not, and is a setting several will probably use for BRP, so a own "rule-less" forum for Glorantha could be justified if the activity would sustain it (I'm just not sure if it would, as Glorantha have been around for a LONG time, and no Glorantha forums are up and running). The great Call of Cthulhu forum have several setting specific forums, and if the activity in the future rises to support more than one forum, I'll add it then. But for now, for a game which rules aren't out yet even, I think one forum will do. SGL.
  15. Hi Bromgrev! News have been posted on the Basic_Roleplaying Yahoo! Group, but it's pretty new so maybe you've missed that one too? Anyhow, good to see you onboard! Sverre.
  16. The current BRP community (according to my own definition) consists of those who play old school RuneQuest, Chaosium Elric!/Stormbringer, Call of Cthulhu, or any of the other d100 Chaosium games or homebrew d100 games based upon Chaosium's d100 systems. The new system will be called "Basic Roleplaying" (not d100 as far as I know), and anyone playing that game will definitely be part of the community. Sverre.
  17. Please no plane hopping, jumping from world to world & travelling in time. I just hope for some good campaign books, with settings that can develpope with time. Sverre.
  18. Have you ever had a look the published HQ scenarios before? They need A LOT of storytelling to fill in the gaps btw the opposed rolls. With BRP, the game tells the story - a fight for example, goes on for several rounds where you attack, parry, take & give damage to different locations, cast spells, etc. till one fighter remains standing. In HQ you just roll an opposed roll (that is my impression at least, correct me if I'm wrong). So... what happened really? Well, to make this system work, you need a really good storyteller GM... Don't fix it if it's not broken is an excellent rule of thumb. A number of optional spot rules is no bad idea though, allowing people to add the extra realism & complexity they want. Sverre.
  19. Hehehe, oh the drama! Steve Perrin is the "creator" of BRP, which gives him a lot of credit. His "Steve Perrin's Quest Rules" wasn't that much to shout "hurray" for though (IMO). Sverre.
  20. I don't like Mongoose Publishing because of the quality and cost of their products, so that's very system based. Now with BRP coming out, I don't mind that much. I can convert their scenarios to BRP, and MRQ might work as a stepping board from D&D to BRP. Issaire's I don't like because of the Issaire's fan policy which caused so many fansites to go offline. Considering how the fanbase was what kept Glorantha alive for such a long time, that's without doubt the worst Gregging ever. I don't mind the system, I just don't understand it. Way to alien. I've bought scenarios to convert to BRP, but haven't been able to do it. The systems where too different for me. I do love all the conversion on you site though! I would also love to conversion rules from any system actually, to BRP. But as there are few people who like to play all the games, there probably won't be that many webpages dedicated to all the systems (I only know of yours!). Tradetalk supports both Issaire's, Chaosium and MRQ (my MRQ Jelmre article will appear in issue #16). The BRP fanzine to be released on this site will accept dual stats (as long as BRP is one of them) - but Glorantha stuff might unfortunately be a problem because of the cursed fan policy. Well, there's the fan policy for you. I'm not sure what other restriction you would have. Why is that? That is true. But I think the RQ community you refer to is the old one, which is now the BRP community. I do not think MRQ have the same loyal fanbase as BRP does. I do applaud Mongoose for the OGL move. Glorantha is off-limits in the OGL only due to Issaire's. Chaosium will not go for an OGL, but will license to rules to 3rd party publishers. Much more restrictive than the OGL, but their fan policy will be very benign from what I understand. Just mentioning the trademarks and providing a link back to Chaosium's web-site would be enough according to Dustin (as long as we're talking about non-commercial stuff). Sverre.
  21. So far Chaosium have focused BRP on Call of Cthulhu, and while CoC is a good game, it does not have a very broad appeal to the market. Hopefully this will correct itself with the new generic system! Sverre.
  22. 1) Ignorance. Most people just don't now about this system. 2) The masses are fools. Most people tend to do what everybody else does, and "everybody" is playing D&D. 3) A horrible lack of support. This was the second most popular RPG at some point. And they blew it all away with the horrible lack of support they gave RuneQuest. Most brp fans blame Greg. I know I do! SGL.
  23. I agree. A simple base system, with optional rules to add more realism (and complication) as people see fit. If it's more similar to SB5 than RQ3 I'll probably have a lot of stuff to grow acustomed to allready. But I have heard it's well influenced by some of the RQ fixes in RQ:AiG (RQ4) too. It will be really exciting to get hold of that book! Sverre.
  24. "The first real roleplaying game in Swedish to be released on the market was Drakar och Demoner (Dragons and Demons). Note that despite the name it is not a Dungeons & Dragons clone. The game system is that of Steve Perrin, basic roleplaying, used in Runequest and Call of Cthulhu. The first edition of Drakar och Demoner came in 1982 in a blue box and was a straight translation of Perrin's Magic World which was released together with Future World and Super World in the boxed set Worlds of Wonder (1982). The basic set of rules, by many referred to as the black box, was later expanded by Drakar och Demoner EXPERT in 1985. Introducing several new occupations, skills and lots of magic, it also got rid of the d100 and used a d20 for all skill rolls. Now Drakar och Demoner was a game of it's own, bearing little resemblence with that of Steve Perrins." ..................... from the page linked above. so... drakar och demoner does not resemble BRP anymore. BAD CHOICE from the designers! SGL.
