  1. Thank you! oh jeez, I looked at that page at least twice. Embarrassing. Doesn’t exactly jump out at you though.
  2. Is there a specific time required to learn spirit magic spells? For additional context, I'm running Six Seasons and the players have just become initiated in to the community spirit cult. So they started pre-initiation and are not initiates in any Rune Cults yet.
  3. I like that as an additional map Nick. Having the names and km marker. Thank you!
  4. Well... no replies to the questions. I'll use my best judgement. Because someone might search this thread for stuff and see my ask about resources, I did find a nice map of the Black Stag Vale. It's full color with lots of details. It was featured in the DMs After Dark streaming show which is doing SSiS on Twitch (and posted on YouTube). You can see it in the first episode after their Session Zero. They've volunteered to share it with anyone who contacts them through social media. Nice folks, and a fun show. I know maps aren't probably required, but I like visual aides for immersion.
  5. I would agree with @Richard S. order of priority. (In my opinion maybe swap Lightbringers and Earth Goddesses, but I'm not sure...)
  6. And this is an actual question about running SSiS. I thought I had this figured out but I was watching the DMs After Dark playthru of SSiS and noticed something during their Session Zero... I'll just cut to the question. SSiS character creation has six steps. The 6th one being Cults. When they become adults after completing the rites, they're initiates to the Black Stag community cult. But until they complete The Riddle or Rites of Passage, they're not entitled to spirit magic or any of the Black Stag initiate skills. But they can receive those AFTER they complete "adulthood rituals." Is that correct? Because I think my players are completing that 6th step... well because it's the 6th step under character creation. If they are supposed to the first 5 steps, do The Riddle or Rites of Passage, and THEN complete that step... that didn't jump out at me until I watched the Twitch Show. And pardon me in advance, even as I write it and explain, it seems really obvious. But just for peace of mind, can someone confirm? (Before I ask them to adjust their characters) EDIT: I guess I should also ask, do people feel they should receive Personal Skills at the end of SSiS, or never? Because it's part of a trilogy (I intend on running) and since there is no time between 1620 and 1625, the Personal Skills are actually gained from the Company of the Dragon and the Seven Tailed Wolf?
  7. This is a crosspost from the Runequest FB group, because not everyone uses FB. My pardons in advance. Hey all, After a month of intentions and discussion, I am actually going to start Six Seasons in Sartar, I am going to do it! This Saturday in fact. I am using the alpha/beta Foundry module. I was wondering if there were any additional resources that folks may have created for their own Six Season campaigns? Like maps particularly, but not limited to them. I have found one map of the Haraborn village on a Google search, and via the Journal of Runic Studies #54 I found some 3D topography maps of the Vale made by Wayne Peters and posted to X/Twitter. I'd be delighted to know if anybody has used anything else. And lastly, I'm not trying to do wrong. I purchased SSiS and if there are resources that required additional purchase or artist attribution I would be glad to do those things. I'm just looking for resources for a private non-commercial online game for friends. Thanks! PS: I am not trying to go grid tactical, but just stuff to create greater immersion.
  8. On the serious side, I was a Kickstarter backer. I was "all in" for digital products, and for that reason I don't feel seriously burned. I got quite a number of PDFs for what I paid. My first post was a little tongue-in-cheek, that's just who I am, but I do sincerely hope this situation and this game can be rehabilitated. As Grumpy Gnome says, there is a lot that is commendable about it.
  9. This post is tangentially about John Wick's departure and for importantly the future of 7th Sea. A real quick anecdote first. I had the opening lyric of this song by Maureen McGovern in my head, because you know? A RPG product line has to have "a morning after" it's developer is "laid off," as Mr. Wick describes himself (note Chaosium didn't discuss it other than to state he was no longer with the company). But to think to myself, "Where does that song even come from? I don't want to reference a romantic break-up song.. nobody else will get the joke." And then I Google it and it's featured in the 1972 movie The Poseidon Adventure. You know? That movie about a bunch of people trying to escape a sinking ship, a deluxe luxury liner... Eventually it got an Academy Award for Best Song? it's supposed to be a hopeful song, presumably when some of the cast manages to survive. Game about pirates and adventure, sinking ships, people escaping, hope for a new dawn? Get it? Well, I thought it was amusing. I'm not going to discuss Mr. Wick or his circumstances, nor am I going to ask any questions. Mr. Wick says he was laid off. Chaosium says he is no longer with the company and they wish him well. I don't need to speculate any further. I don't encourage others to do so either, but it bears referencing because of what it means for the game and the license. This game never lived up to its potential or promise. I know some folks did enjoy it as is. I don't refute their good, personal experiences, and I'm happy for them. That said, I do wonder what the future is for this game? An awful lot of lore has been published for it. Maybe an alternative set of rules could be crafted which could use the lore and setting material from Second Edition. Good use of the BRP? Then, maybe years down the line, new source books could phase out the existing ones? For the time being a rulebook to make for a traditional RPG experience with the setting material now available. Just thinking out loud. That Crazy Wheel Shield
  10. I am surprised this has not been mentioned, but there is an official Runequest Glorantha System module in development for RQ:G for Foundry VTT. I *think* it is intended for future commercial use, but the Alpha/Beta/WIP (whatever it actually is) can be used. It's stable and capable of actual play. You have to install it in Foundry manually, but there are some instructions to the Read Me at the bottom of this link. It's really quite neat. https://github.com/sun-dragon-cult/fvtt-system-rqg
  11. I’m not shilling for it by mentioning it, but Alchemy is a new VTT. It doesn’t emphasize mapping but other immersion techniques. They advertise themselves as being strong for Theatre of the Mind stuff (and yet Paizo and Kobold Press is working with them). Even Chaosium seems to be licensing through them for Call of Cthulhu content. https://alchemyrpg.com/
  12. I have two female players and one male player. The ladies wish to undertake the initiation for men, because they plan on initiate to Vinga and Yinkin. The gentleman has not decided his characters gender. I happy with this, because for them it's the path of Maximum Game Fun. But we talked it out as players and GM, otherwise I might have tried what @AndrewTBP described above. We're not going to start until the first full weekend in November. EDIT: Oh, we talked about Vinga as Orlanth's Feminine Aspect vs his daughter. The female players were emphatic that the former was true for them and not the latter (I think in and out-of-character). I think either interpretation is fine, if that's what players want. I'm not mentioning it to challenge anything. I just found it interesting how the players had strong feelings.
  13. Oh, I kinda wish I hadn't tipped my hand to my players. I really like how you handled that.
  14. I love the cover. I especially love Vinga. I don’t spend a lot of time studying corporate personnel staff pages or corporate trade magazines, so now that I am aware of such things, I am promptly forgetting them. To me, Vinga looks to be an optimistic and confident warrior, perfect for Orlanthi. I’d be glad to have her in my warband.
  15. Thanks gentlemen, very helpful. Also thank you for your patience. I think I am going to decline. (EDIT: Not at all important, but actually the player that asked about Yelmalio is female. She's comfortable with playing male characters though. I'm not sure which gender she had in mind.)
  16. Hey gang, I have players asking if they can steer their characters towards initiating in Yelmalio or Argan Argar (because the Haraborn were troll-friends before Time and also when the clan was exiled from Dragon Pass and became mercenaries in service of the Only Old One (who provided shelter for families and children of warriors). I'm not sure I want to because I'm taking into account the Haraborn are fairly isolated in their Vale, and kind of Orlanthi conservative. I do know that I can do anything I want for any reason, and I'm not subconsciously asking for permission. It's more like, does this make any sense for the location and the situation? As a GM, I have my own sense of verisimilitude. If I wanted to allow this, what would it entail or need for me to add to make sense? At the start of the campaign none of the characters are initiated into a cult (they become initiated to the Black Stag almost immediately), but players are wanting to make longer term goals and plans about the narrative of their characters. The campaign suggests any of the Clan Ring could act as sponsors and mentors, and I have no problem adding *some* NPCs that worship Yinkin for example and other storm deities. But Yelmalio or Argan Argar? (Edit: It's not a Yelmalio vs Orlanth concern. I know they're friendly rivals. I'm more concerned about how realistic it is to have a sponsor in the Clan or nearby, and access to holy sites. And the rivalry I suppose, but not so much.) Anybody got any feedback before I make a decision?
  17. I appreciate all this feedback. @Squaredeal Sten I especially am thankful for your advice. More than an emoticon can convey. You touched up on some specific things I wondered about, or foresaw that I would have to ponder. Your insight is gratefully received.
  18. Thanks @g33k! It was kind of a dumb obvious question, but I appreciate you taking the time to answer it. I originally intended to run a game for my wife, and I mentioned it to another couple (old friends). I was unaware they are Glorantha fans. I asked if they would like to join the campaign and BOOM! Enthusiastic yes! Everybody got really excited. Started picking cults and asking background information, collaborating on ideas. The obvious question was a bit of surprise and panic, in a good way. Suddenly I had a game and people wondering what day we'll play. Zero to 60 in quick order. It's suddenly coming together quickly. Despite that I want to capitalize on that energy right away. I like your sneaky upgrade idea! I may have more questions at some point.
  19. Hi all, Gosh I'm anxious. Today I decided to run a Runequest Glorantha campaign, and I chose the titular one. I might have have some questions. Some of them might be obvious, but I want to do a good job at this. I also have a lot of grounding in other rpgs and it's hard to shake some habits. Right now players are eagerly thinking about the types of characters they want to play. Looking at Chapter 2, the History of the Haraborn- should I just give them all the information in that chapter? I'm used to being tight fisted with information or making PC make knowledge rolls. But Runequest and/or Glorantha is something different. They need all that clan history don't they? That seems obvious but I just wanted to check. Obviously they need the steps in Chapter 3 Character Creation. This may not be my last obvious question. I might update how it goes, if that's okay.
  20. I follow. I’m not a slave to canon, so “if it’s basically okay”, it suits me just fine. Thank you, as always, for the insights.
  21. That list is longer than I remembered! I wondered about Strangers in Prax, but I see the issue. (I did a search and David Scott explained it) Do we know anything about Shadows on the Borderlands?
  22. Thanks guys! @Nick Brooke if you say it’s a fact, I’ll take your word for it. 😉 (but thanks again)
  23. I wanted to thank @MOB for posting this. I don't watch a lot of streamed games. They can be kind of a mixed bag. But something made me watch this one... all three episodes. It also had an unexpected happy effect. My wife was coloring while I watched it on tv and so watched it with me. I'm American and she moved from Britain to marry me some 23 years ago. We both played Runequest during university years, but not with each other. Yet we both know the lore. Neither of us has to really explain much of the setting to each other. Neither of us has played Runequest in all that time either, but I have been buying this recent edition. So we're watching the stream and she says to me, "Strike ranks, I have not heard strike ranks in ages. None of this roll for initiative stuff." Then she correctly calls out the damage values of weapons when the streaming players ask the GM. To shorten this story, I ask her if she'd like to play a game and she replied that she would love to. So I show her the Starter Set and my books and it's a plan. It looks like a one-on-one game, but we'll figure it out. We've helped run companion characters for each other in other games. Just a happy moment that I thought I would share. And I enjoyed the streaming show. They were a lot of fun.
  24. How useful are those Avalon Hill books for contemporary Runequest Glorantha? Specifically if you're adhering to canon (and I don't mean strictly adhering because YGMV, but let's say casually adhering to canon). For example, I think Jeff has suggested not paying much mind to the Issaries Inc. era HQ/ Hero Wars books. Would the same apply to these 3rd edition Avalon Hill books, or are they worth some attention? I kinda remember them (I lost all my old collection), and they seemed kinda OG Old School - I.e. cool. * Not intended to strictly quote Jeff, just my general impression.
  25. As the OP, I am satisfied with the answer to my question. I look forward to August 17th. Thanks to all who replied. (Not relevant but I feel like sharing: I got the Prospaedia in hardcover and love it. I got Weapons and Equipment too, and I think I saved on postage. Carry on!)
