  3. >>Of course mongoose had their own take,<< What publication was that in? >>personally I don't think Orlanth Dragonfriend should really be a cult of its own, just a subcult.<< I am writing a version for the time of the EWF, so will probably make it be it's own subcult or at least an alternate version of O Adv >>not providing any magic on its own but teaching Auld Wyrmish and offering a chance at unlocking your draconic consciousness, essentially being a gateway to the actual mystical paths rather than one itself.<< This matches EXACTLY what I have already written :) >>From what Jeff's said, it seems to me that most EWF citizens just followed their old religions and gave some worship to the council on the side. Comparatively few actually engaged in draconic or other mystical stuff. << Also matches exactly my thoughts after reading around discussions >>I don't think Orlanth Dragonfriend is present in modern-day Pavis << Agreed officially, but more MGF not agreed :) >>unless Argrath or the players somehow resurrect it.<< Again for MGF, of course he has!!! :) >>The only draconic cult left in the region is the Sun Dragon, and that's only because of its sole worshipper Windwhistler.<< Yes >> I think the HW Dragonfriend cult I was thinking of was on Wesley Quadros' Glorantha site, but it's been taken down.<< That rings a bell. I used to chat with Wesley. Ever here of him anymore? Any contact details anyone?
  4. Who did this map? I would love a little help from someone who can do maps like this! :) Also (my reason for checking out this thread) I remember ages ago seeking a (fan-created?) write-up of Orlantha Dragonfriend worship Before I sit down to write this myself for P&BRC_DC_Vol02 (since the cult is present in Pavis City) I thought I'd check and see if there were any good sources already around?
  5. Write a nice piece and I'll put it in the Companion series. Rhino's ahoy! :)
  6. Thanks for this discussion cos I am remembering more of what Greg said (and can't remember if I put it all into the Companions or not) When I asked him how they survived he said they were able to go and hide in the Otherworld if that was necessary. He probably said more specifics, or with more eloquence, but I only remember the essence. I think he said that this ability was related to their Green Age magic and to why the God Learners and Pavis chose this spot. (Green Age juju was strong here.) Check out whichever original Companion had Mani's Clan in it. I may have written some of this there. I don't have time right now as am busy editing up Vol 2 of the re-release and it's taking many many hours
  7. What, nobody has read 'Shadows Of Pavis'?? It's all in there :) ('The Kaggroka Contests')
  8. I am 99% certain that Greg said this was also why the Jrusteli chose this spot. They too were after the Green Age magic. So destroying Mani's Clan would have been counterproductive. Paragua I can't recall what Greg said about that. Maybe he had a clear sense that Mani's people were just regular oasis folk, and simply had no beef with them.
  9. Greg was clear that Mani's Clan were Oasis Folk who had been at this site since the GodTime (or since time began) or whatever, and that Pavis came to this location specifically because Mani's Clan had their center of magic here. Maybe there used to be a lagoon or something off the river that had it's own spirit like an oasis?
  10. Greg never revealed the full plan of Pavis to me (sadly), and I'm not sure if it was fully formed to him. He did tell me it was to do with Green Age magic, and this it was ongoing and maybe one day would come to completion. I wrote my campaign like a jigsaw with the few pieces that Greg revealed, and filling in the blanks. He did say that Mani of Mani's Clan was a player in the plan that nobody suspected. Of course he could have changed his mind, but at that time this was his thinking
  11. PROGRESS REPORT & PLAN Vol. 01: ‘'Rough Guide to Pavis City (894ST)’ (Turning the Rough Guide into a Campaign Background. Scenario Seeds, RQG stats, Epic New Scenario…) ** I have finished the layout. Now it's awaiting final proof checking, then goes to a proper skilled layout person to be tweaked. STATUS- Nearly done!! Vol. 02: ‘Adventures in Pavis City (894ST)’ (Turning the Rough Guide into a Campaign Background. Scenario Seeds, RQG stats, Epic New Scenario…) ** Volunteers working on stats (quite a lot done); huge new scenario nearly complete (another few hrs); summary cults and professions section well-underway; layout well-underway. ------------------ Further volumes are all at the same point. Original material has been reclaimed from pdfs, and a new plan made of which articles/pieces go where. In the very near future (next few days) I will start to place this text into the JC Word template and do basic layout. Starting from the beginning. Commencement date for the main campaign is likely around 1619ST. The only major piece for which permission has not been gained yet is Pavis County (which will hopefully be a big chunk of Vol 05). ------------------ Vol. 03: ‘City on the Edge of Forever’ [New Pavis] (Backdrop Religions/Cultures from original Companion series, updated to RQG, plus new intro. scenarios.) Vol. 04: ‘Ghosts of Our Ancestors’ [Big Rubble] (Early adventures, Old City Inhabitants/Locations and start of Grey Company campaign; all updated to RQG.) Vol. 05: ‘Outside the Walls’ (Pavis County, Zola Fel River & Praxian material from original P&BR Companion series. Updated to RQG) Vol. 06: ‘The Destiny of Pavis’ [Big Rubble] (Advanced Grey Company adventures & Rubble locations from the original series. Updated to RQG.) Vol. 07: ‘The Liberation of Pavis’ (An expansion on my Wedding of Pavis and Liberation of Pavis campaigns, which have so far only been released as rough pdfs. +RQG [Dependent on official publications.]) [Vols 03-06 will also include supporting P&BR material from other publications e.g. Tradetalk. All updated to RQG.]
  12. I don't, but the heads-up about this deity is helpful in itself I've chosen dark season because it being colder as well suits the tone I want :)
  13. What Season, or types of Season would one expect to find river fogs rolling in and obscuring the streets in the evenings in the districts along the river in Pavis City? I'm guessing the colder season (is that Darkness?) or maybe Sea Season would make sense?
  14. Please expand on that idea and say more. I though AA was honest, but at this stage trolls are not common in Pavis City, so yes they could be sneakin around the authorities for sure. Maybe even human AA from Heortland?
  15. Please expand upon that idea and throw it to me in a PM here. My plan is to have one local Lanbrilli, the one Local Orlanth Thief, and an exotic one, which is as yet undefined. You may be about to get a credit for yourself in the zine :)
  16. This sounds like the Desemborth/Orlanth-The-Thief option. So I need three gangs for the scenario, and am almost certainly going to use D./O for one of them and Lanbril for another, but I'd like a third. I can make it up if necessary, but thought I'd check and see if there was actually an option already in existence Good to know about Guilds. These will each be in their own Guild, but also have a loose alliance despite being rivals. Loose alliance against the authorities, since any anti-criminal activities are bad for everyone
  17. Thief Cults in Pavis City? Really just pondering on who they might be? I want them to be different ones, not just versions of Lanbril (though one can be Lanbril of course). Is Desemborth a cult? I remember I wrote an unofficial smuggler cult once, but that has long-since disappeared in the mists of time. All suggestions/advice welcome. I am looking for three different thief cults, with connections to vice and smuggling. IE not healthy/fun rpg thieves. Although one of them (Desemborth?) can be somewhat less seedy. Why? Can't say. That would be spoilers for the new scenario I'm writing for Rough Guide to PC :)
  18. I am surprised not to have heard back from John, though of course he could simply be very busy with life and no time to respond yet. Don't want to bother him, yet also would love to be in touch!
  19. Oh very cool I got very busy with other things (as we all do as we get older) Never stopped being interested in gaming, but most others dropped away around here, and I developed other interests in my spare time Really glad you liked the DERPG stuff. Such a fun game. Probably the game I've played where me and the players laughed out loud the most often!!
  20. You superstar. PMing you now in response to other questions :)
  21. Oh it is!!! :) My gaming favourites, and indeed the only games I ever ran campaigns in are (in this order): Glorantha (Pavis/Prax) Call of Cthulhu (equally 1920s & Gaslight) Dying Earth RPG
  22. >>I would publish them as they are and then, when the new version of Pavis and Big Rubble comes out, publish an update to keep in in line with the official version.<< What's the protocol around that? If I publish them and then retcon myself? I don't like doing that, but if it's an accepted thing... Timing could end up being good though in that the material most likely to be problematic is later in the campaign and so the new material might be out by then. (Gloranthan material has a reputation for epic delays, but let's be hopeful.) :) Exceptions of course could be very small alterations to earlier volumes in the series. I've no problem with that For now I will just wait I think, until I start to get close to re-publishing the first volume with any major socio-political stuff in >>The whole point of the Jonstown Compendium is that YGWV and I like the way that you P&BRC expanded Pavis and the Big Rubble in interesting ways.<< Totally, but what I'm interested to see is if any new official facts can be easily adapted into my series without compromising any of that stuff. >>If your material comes out first, then people will start using it and then adapt their campaigns when the official material comes out.<< Fer sure, and if the new Pavis material wasn't scheduled for the very near future I wouldn't be concerned. But it is scheduled for the very near future. Plus, as mentioned I don't mind writing a non-canon close to the series that is totally Pavis-centric and has the city rise from the ashes due to magnificent Green Age magic. (Presuming that the heroic PCs succeed in their roles of course.) :)
  23. This might be the place to ask. I have a vague awareness that some fonts can't be used commercially and some can. I'm going to have a look online now to see if I can sort out some options (just for the headers and title really) for the Rough Guide to Pavis City Directors' Cut. Anyway, wondering if anyone has already put together a list of interesting looking fonts that can be used in the fan-produced Gloranthan publications?
  24. There is absolutely the bonus of the different time-period. However, they will no doubt include a section of recent history, and also a structure of how the Pavis Priesthood and Government works, and stuff like that. My Grey Company campaign gets heavily involved in politics, and the last Companion I am planning to write covers their pivotal role in the Wedding of Pavis, the Liberation of Pavis and the final manifestation of Pavis' grand plan. Yes my campaign actually ran up to and beyond Argrath taking Pavis (I telescoped the timeline a bit) and so there is actually some overlap especially in the last (and perhaps penultimate) volume It is possible that I might write that last volume as totally non-canon. As an alternate history to Argrath. That I would be fine with However because of the socio-political nature of the last stages of my campaign I would love to spend an extra few hours making it match the upcoming material as closely as possible for being non-contradictory You are absolutely right in that much of the earlier material won't matter at all because it is all stuff like adventuring in the Rubble (although the socio-political elements do start to creep in quite early in small ways) Thanks for the response :)
  25. Since the timing is relatively synchronous, I would be very happy to adjust the whole of the P&BR Companion re-release series to match the information in these official publications as closely as possible. 1) Basically I have always spent extra effort making sure (and potentially I may have failed sometimes, but not through lack of hard work) that my material contradicts nothing official, and as little well-accepted unofficial material as possible. Takes extra hours of work sometimes but feels respectful. Like that aspect of Improv' - Always try to accept an idea rather than contradict it, because that enhances creativity and collaborative magic 2) Plus it would feel really dumb to go through this massive re-release process only for a few months later for an official publication to appear that was utterly incompatible with the Companion series 3) A big aim of the Companion series was from the very beginning to be 'extra support material' for these locations. It was NEVER intended to be alternate, stand-alone or supersceding. Since that ethos is a primary driver, again it would feel really counter to the whole point of this re-release if the series emerges and then weeks or months later is made utterly incompatible with official ideas I am probably faced with a choice. Delay the Companion series release (although not the creation, which won't be all compete for a few months anyway) and then buy the new official stuff and re-edit to match, or ask if I can have any access to the developing new material for the sole purpose not of using any of it, but simply of rewriting any contradictions in my work in advance. (I imagine this is not likely to be allowed, but thought I'd ponder. I mean, I was Pavis Expert for a year or two, and had a lot of conversations with Greg, so a whole bunch of background stuff in the P&BR series was actually verified by or originated from Greg. Mani's Clan for instance.)
