  1. @jajagappa All good points, which is why I posed my question. While this thread has provided some ideas, I was wonder if there were plans for Glorantha Runequest [tm] fiction in the manner of the Call of Cthulhu authorized fiction. BTW, is the John Boyle author you speak of the author of 'Galloway Street' or 'Daughter of a Fallen Angel'? I presume the latter [the dustcover thumbnail has a lot of 'Glorantha' in it], but I've been wrong before....
  2. Fair question. There's A LOT of 'suitable Glorantha-esque' fiction out here [I highly recommend Gene Wolfe's 'Soldier in the Mists']. But what I'm looking for is a 'sandals eye view' of Glorantha by characters living in it. The idea here is to give the newbies an education in Glorantha spoonful by spoonful using likeable and relatable characters without all the sidebars, tangents and mechanics of trying to do so during a game
  3. I did a little fixing of Ernalina Axe-Sister. This is the version I'm keeping. Changes: - Smaller battleaxe - Changed hair to a more 'helmet head' look - Color changes in a couple of spots - Added bronze throwing axe
  4. Alright, we've seen KODP, GRY, and other 'omniscient' or 'overview' works of Gloranthan lore. We have Griselda and her merry band of manglers. But is anyone writing any character party based Glorantha fiction? What I'm wonder is if anyone is working on Gloranthan party based adventure fiction in the manner of [pardon while I abuse copyrights here] 'Drizzt' or 'Dragonlance' or other works of easily accessible paperback fiction for gamers new to Glorantha? Someone else was asking about this awhile ago as well [sorry, I forget who it was], but it seems to me that a series of novels along the same vein as the late Gary Gygax' 'Gord the Rogue' novels would be a wonderful way to introduce Glorantha to without the help of Team Geezer [of whom I am a card-carrying member]. The Prince of Sartar webcomic was another effort in this idea, but Jeff and Kadien are busy for the foreseeable future. Is Chaosium looking into such things? [No, I'm not trying to sell a novel. I'm a louzy fiction writer. I'm asking for the sake of the nieces that I'm teaching the game to.]
  5. Last is Orene Red-Wind, a Wind Lady of Vinga
  6. The second female is Ernalina Axe-Sister, a Rune Lady of Babeester Gor [Notice how the armor isn't, um, 'bimbo-wear'? Yeah, that was on purpose]
  7. More Hero-Forging, this time with female characters as the focus. First, Afara Moon-Sister, a Priestess of the Red Goddess
  8. Intervention must be within the deity's remit or role. Most DI's can do a lot, but they're not infallible or all-powerful. For example, a Chalana Arroy DI will never harm another living thing [unless it's Chaos -- but even then she doesn't have much in the way of damaging magics] and Humakt will never resurrect anybody, ever, for any reason. OTOH, a Humakt DI-casted Sever Spirit is gonna solve a lot of combat related problems for you. However, that doesn't stop players from requesting dumb stuff. In the OP's question about the Wind Lord wanting a resurrection in battle vs. 5 YT Scimitar Masters instead of a 'rez' and teleport to safety-- well, don't gripe if you got what you asked for. To roughly paraphrase John Wayne, 'Life is hard. It's harder when you're stupid.' In a situation like that, if I were the ref I would suggest the kind of things that Orlanth might do for them in a DI -- information any initiate would know-- and then make the player RP his appeal to his deity. The gods may only intervene in the Mundane Plane in limited ways and this makes DI requests a very literal business. The character's request will be judged in the most literal sense possible and acted or not acted upon based on the god's Runes, role, and powers.
  9. There is a real tendency to portray Guenever as a mythological Eleanor of Aquitaine, and by that most of us mean 'Katherine Hepburn in Lion In Winter'. Both the historical Eleanor and Hepburn's portrayal show us a conniving and manipulative woman with a cruel streak. She had an overall positive effect on history, after all she founded the cult of chivalry and was a patron of art and music [thereby making medieval Europe a bit more pleasant for everybody] but apparently she was rather a rather 'sharp' and somewhat unsympathetic woman. If you can find it, there is a great movie about a smart but compassionate woman that might be a good inspiration. Look for 'Stealing Heaven' and is about the romance of Abelard and Heloise. This might be a better overall inspiration for Guenever.
  10. Decided to do a Delta Green character just for fun... 'Deshaun Discovers The Danger In the Dark'
  11. I'm not a Pendragon player, though I have read Mallory and seen the movies of Arthurian myths. It depends on how you want to portray Guenever. She can be ingenue like Sophia Myles in 'Tristan+Isolde' [2006] or the conniving schemer Lady Kaede in 'Ran' [1985], but if I were running the game I think I'd prefer Sophie Marceau's Queen Isabelle from 'Braveheart' [1995]... A pawn in a political marriage but too stubborn to allow it to suppress her innate intelligence. In that way, she's also like Julia Ormonde's Guinevere of the really awful 'First Knight' [1995]. And God knows you can't go too far wrong with either woman's photos from the respective movies. Obviously, your mileage will vary, but Guenever obviously isn't a Lagaertha type and that doesn't fit the trope anyway.
  12. Well, it helps when the HF program does all the nifty shading for you. Nevertheless, thanks for the compliment. There are a lot of magic effects, so I chose the most appropriate one. There are no effects showing 'summoning' per se, so no semi-humanoid forms in the spell effect. The REAL tricky part in the whole thing is having the discipline to stop yourself from going back into the program and fiddling with it some more. It's very easy to find yourself trying to 'gild the lily' so to speak.
  13. Like you, I love Peter Dinklage and the Tyrion character. And I love that he's getting work outside of GoT. He did a good job with Cyrano. I should also point out that Warwick Davis is back with 'Willow 2'. And I'm also very aware that we haven't come all that far from Billy Barty and the Oompa Loompas. But the old RQ2 trope of 'You just got your ass beat by the Feral Child from Mad Max' or the Lost Boys from Peter Pan is still very much part of the 'head canon' of old RQ2 geezers like us, and that's what I was commenting on.
  14. I like it! Some little person throwing bolos from a velociraptor and screaming a war cry like a toddler denied their ice cream is just plain hysterical !
  15. And that was entirely intentional... 😁
  16. Well, as I get older I find I have a more limited tolerance for the general run of human Stupid, but the contact with others is fundamentally healthy. My wife works for medical review board... they review human experimentation requests for drugs and surgical procedures to ensure that they meet the ethical standards of such work. As you can imagine, COVID and cancer is just about all she's been doing for the last couple years. We've been 'bunkered down' for most of that time, and so getting out to see folks again has been something of a tonic for the soul.
  17. And for our 7th Sea players, please allow me to introduce you to Don Roderigo de'Castille,
  18. I don't know about how much Wind Lord would cost. but I printed up the figure shown below and it was US$ 80, which I describe as 'Warhammer pricing'. I should note two things though: a] I don't know a whole lot about the technical details of 3D printing and b] I am fully satisfied at how the figure came out.
  19. I got to fiddling with him a bit more. Wind Lord 2.0 Gloranthan elements in the project... The colors of Air/Storm is Orange, so orange tones in the tunic and tattoos. I also included some orange in the sword's lighting. Despite it's affiliation with Water, blue tones are also strongly associated with Air/Storm via the sky color and rain, so I put a dull blue on his tunic and braes. Woad blue tattoos cuz 'duh' I used an iron/steel color for only the sword blade. All other metal is gold-tone of brass, bronze, and gold. I was able to finagle the pose to lift his chin up to the Air and show the golden torc of kingship a bit better as well.
  20. And for all you Cthulhu-fans out there... 'Dr. Dick Danger - - On The Trail!'
  21. I shared this in the Glorantha forum so this is something of a cut and paste. I've been working on the intricacies of Heroforge and I think I've gotten the decals and posing almost figured out. Sort of. Kinda. Maybe. In any event, tell me what you think. All suggestions gratefully received. In my head, I've titled this one 'A Wind Lord Proves His Kingship'
  22. I've been messing around with Heroforge lately. I think I've almost got the decals function half-assed figured out. Tell me what you think. I've mentally titled this one 'A Wind Lord Proves His Kingship'
  23. Emus? Well, they taste kinda like chicken....
  24. We use Casey's Tactics here, but it's just an abridged and clarified Hardee's. At least we're not using Gilliam's and firing in three ranks... 😁
  25. Initiation establishes a personal link to one's deity. Because of this, the initiate must not only make the god/dess happy, but the cult hierarchy as well. This is an exercise of both divine faith and human politics. There's a lot of devout worshipers in Glorantha that pissed off their cult leadership and don't get cult benefits they're clearly entitled to. For example, if you're an Orlanth worshiper and you're playing patty-cake with the Cult of the Seven Mothers while your Orlanth cult is being actively suppressed, it doesn't matter how many Rune Points you have or what other qualifications you have... you will NOT advance in that cult so long as the Chief Priest is pissed off at you. Also remember that many cults are clan affairs. The above Orlanthi initiate who was denied elevation in one temple would have to start all over socially speaking to gain enough status in another temple to elevate to Rune status. The point is that a worshiper must not only do the right things, they must be seen doing the right things, and they must do those things to the satisfaction of their superiors. This is what that whole 'convince the examiners' thing is about. But it will still take multiple seasons of consistent residency, worship attendance, and loyalty [that is, actually taking an appropriate Passion] to even get to the point of being examined in the first place. Rune Status isn't like shopping for the best price of a pair of sandals. Loyalty and service to the temple and the clan that runs it counts for at least as much as any other qualification.
