It's rather cruel to place an emerging AI in a single purpose slot.

What is the difference between an emerging AI acting as a Doctor or a Pilot, as opposed to a human acting as a Doctor or Pilot? They both do the same job day in, day out.

Hi, Are Ragnaglar, Thed, Eiritha, Tada and Generts Garden linked? I read sometime that Ragnaglar could be the first air god to live in the Garden before The Bull coming.

Gloranthan folk have pretty much wiped Ragnaglar, Thed and Mallia from existence, by purging their own myths of references to them as friends.

Chaots might have myths of how Ragnaglar lived in the Garden but was thrown out by Genert/Tada/Storm Bull and how he returned to take his rightful place, but I canot see them being popular among Gloranthans.

  3. I like the idea of just giving AIs skills. If you have a MediDoc then you want it to be as good as a Doctor, or maybe a Surgeon, or perhaps a really good Surgeon, you don't want it to be able to land a spaceship. So, you have a collection of small AIs, each specialising in a certain area, effectively running as NPCs.

Most people use computers to do stuff. Not many people program computers to do more stuff and even they work to various limitations when developing new things.

What do people use computers for?

    1. Taking out the drudgery from work
    2. Speeding things up/Automating things
    3. Finding things out quickly
    4. Running Simulations
    5. Entertainment

So, an AI in a SciFi game can do all these things.

A Medi-Doc can diagnose and treat (2), has access to a vast store of medical knowledge (3), can work out the effects of treatment (4) and means that the actual doctor can be freed up to do other things while the Medi-Doc is working (1).

An Engineering AI checks that all the systems are up and running (1), runs a lot of the systems itself (2), checks to see if it can fix any faults (3), checks to see what would happen if it changed part A for part B (4) and so on.

Computers are not magical things that can do anything you want, they are tools that can do certain jobs.

Hopefully you've seen this version of New Pavis:

    http://www.glorantha.com/docs/map-of-new-pavis/

Yes, it is very nice indeed.

However, it is missing all the above streets, as it is based on the old Chaosium maps that also miss the streets. It has no numbered buildings, which is a real pain.

It is also something that I cannot amend or add to, so is not really suitable for my needs.

The OP comes from a Call of Cthulhu background, Imagine if someone asked "Where can I start with Cal of Cthulhu" and people listed the whole mythos and all the scenarios. They would be overwhelmed.

:  Prax, Sartar, Dragon Pass:  pick one... and...      GO!  :D

    I agree.

Do you want to play animal-riding nomads on the edge of a ruined city? Prax.

Do you want to play Storm-worshipping barbarians in thrall to an evil Lunar Empire? Sartar.

Do you want to play Sun-worshipping horse riders, demon-steed-riding sorcerers, grim exiles from the evil Lunar Empire, ducks surviving zombies? Dragon Pass.

  6. So, the "so magical it's in Plunder" Morocanth Thumb is now replaced by a glove made from the skin of a herd man with the herdman's spirit in? Hmmm. How big are Morocanth hooves compared to a herd man's hand?

An unhelpful blank from me but I'm commenting to show my interest...

Unnamed street 1  - No idea     (I've been calling it Horsehead Lane because it's on the far side of Sun Court from Horseleg Lane

Unnamed Street 2 - No idea     (I call it Foreman Court)

Unnamed Street 3 - No idea    but it's a good candidate for Third Street

Unnamed Street 4 - No Idea    (I treat it as an extension of Safe Way) Is there a name for the next street northwest (H30/H33 H35/H34)?

Unnamed Street 5 - No idea   (I like the name Vinegar Alley but that's just my sense of humour)

Unnamed Street 6 - No idea   (I call it The Cloisters which may be inaccurate because it's not closed off, Temples can house priests and guests in there)

And what about the un-numbered building between the Guild Hall and Erigio's, In my references it's not part of Downtown or Public Quarter

    Thanks for the ideas.

I will probably put Unnamed Street 3 as Third Street, as it is about the right place and both have a "3" in the name. :)

Unnamed Street 4 is the end of Safe Way, it's obvious when pointed out.

I treat H30/H33 to H35/H34 as an extension of Thane Street.

The unnumbered building is the Pavis Temple (P-31) (Pavis & Big Rubble p25), home to various priests and headquarters of various Pavic military groups.

The other names sound good, so unless anyone knows what they are, officially, I might just use them.

Maybe - but it requires registration etc. to take a look.

Well, I can get through registration, but my account does not have permission to view the page.

Is it a private page for a particular group?

This deliberate sexual hybridization for "daughters" with elemental rune power is a great idea.  It smacks of a weird sex and lineage based sub cult plot within the Cult of Pavis, a bit like what Sauron was trying to do with the rings and the races, only based on bonking and probably not so bent on world domination.  I love comments like this that play up the internal intrigue of the Pavis Cult and flesh out the weird history of the city.

The Priests of Pavis are called Daughters and are based on Pavis' actual daughters, so there is an element of Pavis as an ancestor/family deity. With the exception of Ginkizzie, I doubt if any of the current Daughters are descended from Pavis, though. Perhaps that could be a theme in a campaign, to try and locate the last living descendants of Pavis.

  10. Personally, I would allow the increase to be unlimited. So, I would have no problem with Hunter 13 (Archery + 25), from a rules mechanics point of view, it just means that the hunter is a specialised archer who shoots as if he has Archery 38, or 18M). However, from a story/character point of view, why is Archery not an ability on its own if it is so good?

Shouldn't that be How Lanbril stole a Face?

The Face of Lanbril spell doesn't make you look different (i.e. stealing someone else's face) merely nondescript so you don't stand out (i.e. losing what makes you distinctive), so I see it as Lanbril losing his face, so that nobody recognises him. It's a consequence or extension of everyone saying he isn't an important/powerful god, being a son of Grandfather Mortal.

"She is not dead, only sleeping" - Greater Darkness mantra of the Ernaldans, shared by the aldryami. I guess this makes Ernalda a prime candidate for a deity for sleep.

Tada is asleep near the Sleeping City Hills. In my current campaign, one of the NPCs was a Dream-Tada, projected by Tada to interact with the world. Almost like a Dream Dragon, but not quite.

  13. I have almost finished my image map of New Pavis and would like to know if anyone knows the names of some missing streets.

    • Unnamed Street 1 - Runs from Sun Court, around the Yelmalio Temple (S-21), between S-34 and S-41, then between S-36 and S-42/S-44, ending on Missile Street.
    • Unnamed Street 2 - Ends in Overseer Street, between S-85/S-89 and S-82/S-84/P-6/P-7.
    • Unnamed Street 3 - Between D-44/D-49 and D-52/D-57, joining Second Street.
    • Unnamed Street 4 - Running from Drop Steet to Thane Street, between H-25-H-28 and H-29/H-32
    • Unnamed Street 5 - Ending in Salt Street, between F-27/F30 and F-31 /F-35.
    • Unnamed Street 6 - Surrounded by H-1 to H-9, H-14, H-15 and H-18, enters Holy Street

I could just make names up for these, but wondered if anyone knew what they are actually called.

Also, we have First, Second and Fourth Street, but not a Third Street, does anyone know where Third Street is, or was?

  14. We have the Winterfall myth in my Praxian campaign, where the forces of Winter come down from the Rockwoods and face the Forces of Summer who oppose them every year. Normally, Valind, Gagarth and Inora are the prime movers for Winter, sometimes with Subere and Himile, the prime movers of Summer vary but Sun Hawk and Little Brother are normally involved. In our campaign, the orlanthi helped the side of Winter rather than Summer, to increase the Great Winter and to oppose the Lunar Kalikos HeroQuestors who tried to break the Winter in Prax.

I think that Kalikos was a Star Captain, one of the many that were sent to the surface world, but fought Valind to break the hold of the Ice Sheet that would otherwise have tipped the sky over. Later on, a Lunar HeroQuestor probably embodied Kalikos and awakened part of his soul, regaining the red Rock and stealing the Ice Crystal from Valind's Castle, forcing the followers of Valind to waste themselves in attacks on Kalikos' Castle.

  15. I haven't written any, but you could have:

How Lanbril Lost his Face (Origin of the Face of Lanbril spell)

    How Lanbril Got Away

How Everyone Forgot Lanbril (Origin of the Forget spell)

Lanbril and Mostal (Stealing alchemical powders or items)

    Lanbril and the First Lock

“The Church took a crucial step towards clearing the way to legalizing prostitution when theologians agreed that harlots did deserve to be paid for their work. As a result, the Church accepted their alms and even contemplated imposing tithes on their earnings. This last issue took longer to be implemented, since discussions about the tithes were fraught with disagreements.”

So, prostitution was OK if the Church could tax it, sounds about right, taxes triumph everything.
