  1. Give them extra skill points and throw in only Goblins at first, giving the PCs a numeric advantage. Then use Healing spells and potions to decrease the chance of characters dying for bad luck with parries. The first time a character is on the verge of dying for an impaled gobling spear, they'll learn to be cautious in combat. Once they have learned how to survive (but they are not pissed off by too many PC deaths) you can throw in the Demon or the Dragon: they'll be scared, but they'll win. And remember, protective and weapon magic in BRP is way more powerful than in D&D (whereas direct damage magic is not), so throwing in a magician and a couple enchanted items makes for waaaay more survivability and fun than doubling hit points.
  2. Tywyll, did you check the discussion on the D100 Glorantha group? You are a member but you are set to not receive emails. Man messages are just noise but there are some interesting ideas.
  3. First of all, we should check whether the part about POWvsPOW giving a POW increase chance does not include PPvsPP too. We have already spotted rules mistakes on this forum.
  4. All this will indeed be useful, as the old spell lists are all very out of print. But it will create a lot of confusion, as many of the old standard RQ spells are now in MRQ (and in the SRD, so they circulate freely w/o copyright issues). We could end up with Just Another Version of Bladesharp and Shield.
  5. This copyright stuff is hardly endorsable. And just FYI, if the cards are well done I doubt Chaosium would object making them licensed game additions. I still have three licensed BRP supplements I can produce this year, after Rome. Just another way to say: nice idea.
  6. I meant, when the object (usually a .44 magnum) falls off Chuck's hand and he is technically Disarmed. That's the start of the real show. And please do not post the entire Chuck Norris facts list here....
  7. In cover, Superior position and Inferior Position are relative to an opponent, so I would not call them conditions. Wounded, minor, is a condition but has no effect in BRP. Finally, Disarmed is not a condition. It's just an object that fell off your hand. And in Chuck Norris movies, it usually means that the real fight is about to start.
  8. If your "druid" must be a nature-lover shapeshifting healer as it is common in commercial fantasy like D&D or WoW, there is a good depiction of Druids in Signs & portents, the free Mongoose zine. Cannot remember the exact issue but it should be between 38 and 42, and there's an index somewhere, here or on the MRQ wiki. Of course it's for MRQ so it uses Rune Magic and Heroic Abilities, but these are easy to adapt. If you want a real historical druid then you just need a spirit magic practitioner without shapeshifting or discorporation abilities. I'll provide a description for it in Stupor Mundi 2 but we are definitely not close to publishing it, so I suppose you cannot wait.
  9. Well, there is nothing wrong in trying a new option. Combat works well as it is, but adding new effects can be fun for someone.
  10. Lulu is a solution to the problem of small producers not being able to handle the costs of mass printing, stocking, mailing, etc. But it is not a cheap solution. The sooner other services appear, the best (thx for the suggestion thalaba). And yes, PDF sales are tracked. This will become more important when licensed products start to appear on Chaosium's web page. Got the picture guys? (pun intended:D )
  11. Access to lulu by chaosium directly could be more convenient for fans but would be less-than-professional for them. I would not advise it at all. The recent increase in the demand for POD services will probably cause a decrease in prices soon. However lulu, as the business initiator, will probably keep the prices higher. As soon as a better site shows up, many companies will change provider. This will provide more value-for-your money to fans. I doubt I will find a better provider in time for the release of Rome, but I can assure you that I am actively looking for it.
  12. The Chaos Society could be a solution. They usually keep a stock of a lot of products, why not BRP monographs in print? Andre, if you are reading this, please honk.
  13. Don't worry, your eyesight is still good. The point is that it has been there only since December. It was only on YourGamesNow before.
  14. I cannot vouch for D20, as I do not buy that stuff, but some of the products that came out for MRQ were good, some were of arguable quality (but not junk in any case). But even Mongoose products were not all fantastic, as everyone agrees, so you can expect mixed quality from everyone. BRP stuff so far is definitely above average, including the monographs. There is only one licensee at present :innocent: . I hope that they can keep up with the good quality. And that more licensees appear.
  15. Yeah. You just hit the spot atgigey. Unless the company is relying on indies to provide the quantity of supplements needed. That's why I always advocated third party support (even before providing it myself). And this is why we stil sell via OBS despite the higher fees. They are our (the indies) medium to reach the main audience, the ones who did not hear about us before.
  16. This was my idea on the subject, too, but it looks like the next iteration of HQ could introduce physical runes (or at least something similar) in the third age. This puts an end to the GAG concept of physical runes as a God Learner construct, which did not make so much sense, mythically speaking, to be honest. I have not got the details about this, as I did not attend conventions last year, but since Loz is involved in the rulemaking process along with less sensible individuals (you know who you are if you are reading this list, and luckily you are not) I hope they will not screw everything up. I suggest we wait until we have more information about runes in HeroQuest before proposing other approaches to Rune Magic.
  17. But then you must have a way to physically create a Rune from scratch, or else the overall quantity of runecasters would decrease with time, as runes left over from Godtime are used up by casters.
  18. No. Just SIZ=tonnage given in "official" Toei stats, and HP=SIZ (with location HPs consistent with general HP) See Kloster's post in the other thread. Well, in fact I am planning something similar. The stats for UC Mechas are already in the making though not published, I want to run a mecha game at Tentacles. But I have not created any "generic" rules at the moment, just used published stats. So you wouldn't be duplicating anything. But what you write could be re-used later.
  19. In fact, the license is never for a single game but for the right to use the system and the logos. It even states that the publisher must produce at least one supplement per year, so everyone's wish to see more third party products will certainly come true, as the license forces me to produce three more supplements. Not that I dislike the idea, mind me More correctly they have self-assembled an alternate publisher called YourGamesNow which sells less but takes a smaller cut of the profits. And there are other shops appearing. That's the Internet, baby. I guess (well, maybe I hope) there is another reason. Since Chaosium reserves the right to publish third party BRP stuff on its own via its web site and regular distribution channel (and in fact will do that massively), if the BRP line was present on OneBookShelf shops in Chaosium's product page, then the licenser would compete with the licensee on OBS, a situation that both could find counter-productive. When BRP Rome is ready for a preview (i.e. soon) we'll uncover more details about its distribution channels, but the PDF will be present on at least four e-shops (counting OneBookShelf as one single shop).
  20. It's a good idea, and I like the "2H weapons get 1 step up in the db scale" idea, too. But isn't it too complicate for the average player?
  21. It's certainly more realistic. But how do you halve it for missile weapons?
  22. Yup. You should be able to cast a non-progressive spell more than once per adventure. Possibly they meant it but did not phrase it well. I would rather go with a +x to Dedicated POW, gained as a legendary ability. This will be included as a Legendary Ability for Teutonic Knights (or Knights Templar) in Stupor Mundi 2, but it will not be available before the end of 2009 (Rome takes precedence). On the contrary, I liked it the first time I read the description. It needs tweaks like everything in MRQ, but the basic mechanics is good. We have been playing like this for 15 years now, and it works fine. Only difference is that a priest has easier access to a "recharge" for his spells (the discount you mentioned).
  23. A really good contribution, Deleriad. You are right in both saying that Rune Magic does not fit Glorantha well as it is written now (messy rune associations, too much relevance of runes as items), and saying it can portray it better than RQ2/RQ3 potentially. I would also remind everyone that in MRQ the generally-available magic system is no longer spirit magic, but Folk Magic, which is made of very simple cantrips limited to 2 point spells at most. The kind of spells a barmaid might know. Finally, I have one question. If this is the relationship between magic, runes and the deities, then rune/spirit magic is the real measure of one's degree of identification with the gods and spirits (affinity in HeroQuest). Where does Divine Magic (which is not tied to runes) fit in this kind of model?
  24. This yahoo! group contains some interesting ideas and polls. I have not worked more about it for many months, but some of the ideas expressed are rather interesting. d100glorantha : Glorantha (Third Age) with D100 Frogspawner, Loz is not advertising anything. There are such things as Non-Disclosure Agreements in the gaming industry, and he should not discuss the work he is doing for Mongoose (or Issaries) in a public forum. Which does not mean he cannot listen to our advice if it is sensible. I do not know the proposed rule mechanics for runes in the new HeroQuest system as I missed all conventions last year, but seeing HeroQuest and RuneQuest converge more would not displease me.
