  4. Chaosium Unveiled reveals RuneQuest: Weapons & Equipment for RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha. An essential guide to a wide range of items, goods, services, training, magical items, and beasts for both players and Game Masters. What the critics say about RuneQuest: Weapons & Equipment "I have a bone to pick with the brand-new RuneQuest Weapons & Equipment guide. Its title... Weapons & Equipment sounds like a laundry list for player character adventurers. This book is so much more. This book is RuneQuest: The Material Culture of Dragon Pass... For all of her wonders, her strangeness, Glorantha is an incredibly defined and real setting. Weapons & Equipment underscores this, and I suspect will change the way you think and feel about the game." — Andrew Logan Montgomery. "This book is superb and offers so much more than you might expect in an equipment guide. Highly recommended." — M.T. Black. "It's how you do a weapons and equipment guide right — highly recommended." — RPG Imaginings.
  5. Back in January, when we put the Basic Roleplaying's PDF on sale for 99c, we had many people asking if it would ever be available in print. And now it is! Basic Roleplaying's 'Big Gold Book' is now available in print again worldwide, via DriveThruRPG! $39.95 - 400 page softcover book, price includes PDF. At the core, most Chaosium Roleplaying games use a variation of the BRP/Basic Roleplaying System, which started with RuneQuest. Call of Cthulhu, StormBringer, SuperWorld, Pendragon, and others (including, most recently Rivers of London) followed. So, if you want to create your own Mythic World and leverage a proven system that is the backbone of some of the most successful games in Roleplaying history, look no further! "The cleanest, simplest, easiest generic system around." — Ken Hite. Also available in softcover direct from Chaosium.com for the same price (note: US customers only).
  6. Now on YouTube: episode one of The Calyx playing Regency Cthulhu! 7. In his newest 'Out of the Suitcase' post, Chaosium president Rick Meints talks about Games Workshop's ill-starred attempt to release an electronic collection of the first 10 years of its White Dwarf magazine (1977-1987). All 90 issues were scanned in, cleaned up, and made electronically searchable. But unfortunately GW then realised they didn't own the rights to many of the articles in those long out-of-print issues, and the project was killed. But not before some advance marketing copies leaked out into the wild... https://www.chaosium.com/blogout-of-the-suitcase-40-what-never-was-mostly
  8. Our friends at The Storytelling Collective, well-known for their Write Your First Adventure Workshops, have a new program: the Bookwyrms Reading Club. This is a monthly guided reading club to learn new tabletop roleplaying games so you can feel empowered to create for them. And the first tabletop roleplaying game in the series is Call of Cthulhu! All participants will receive a digital copy of the Call of Cthulhu Starter Set and Gateways to Terror, plus worksheet, prompts, and questions to guide their reading. In collaboration with the StoCo team, a facilitator with expertise on that month's game system will host Zoom calls and online discussions throughout the month: and for Call of Cthulhu who better than Paul Fricker, co-author of Call of Cthulhu 7th edition and bestselling Miskatonic Repository author. Participants will be part of an online community where they can ask questions and share thoughts about that month's ttRPG Toward the end of the month, participants will receive writing prompts to put their new knowledge into practice! Join Bookwyrms today – enroll in the monthly membership to get the most of Bookwyrms, or drop in for a month! Details here.
  9. Jonstown Compendium indie creator Brian Duguid writes: "My print copy of Nick Brooke's Jonstown Compendium Catalogue 2022 Edition arrived recently. Here it is with the 2021 predecessor. Other than the RuneQuest core rulebook or Starter Set, I think this little volume should be any RuneQuest fan's next purchase. "If you want a quick and simple understanding of quite how healthy the game and its community is right now, here it is." The 2021 edition ran to 141 pages, but the 2022 edition runs to 171 pages. Just stop and think for a moment: it takes 171 pages to fully survey all the glorious RuneQuest and Gloranthan community content currently available on the Jonstown Compendium. In comparison, The Meints Index to Glorantha III, surveying pretty much everything ever published for the game and its world (up to just before the JC started, roughly) hits 266 pages, but that covers over four decades of product. The Jonstown Compendium has been available for just a little over three years. Imagine if you could even buy this gargantuan guide to Gloranthan goodness at a reduced price, on sale, right now (until 14th March) - well, you can! It is excellent value for money, especially as a way in to the vast hinterland of top-notch JC product that perhaps gets a little less attention than the bestsellers and the 'hottest' titles." Jonstown Compendium Catalogue, 2022 edition Nick Brooke ($3.00 $2.55, 171 page PDF, softcover 9" x 6" standard color book $9.95). Details every supplement published in the first three years of Chaosium's community content programme for RuneQuest and Glorantha. Under the Jonstown Compendium community content license, fans of Greg Stafford's world of Glorantha can sell and share their own material on DriveThruRPG. If that appeals, check out the Jonstown Compendium Guidelines and start creating!

  11. Never before has there been a better time to start playing RuneQuest! We are proud to announce the 10-volume Cults of RuneQuest—a series of player-focussed supplements for RuneQuest! The first of these books is set to release in July, with a big launch at GenCon Indy in August. In RuneQuest, every player-character’s spells, skills, and other bonuses are determined by the cult (or cults) they choose to join. The Cults of RuneQuest series allows players a wealth of new character options by presenting full pantheons of gods beyond those found in the RuneQuest core book. Of course, you do not need to buy all 10 books in order to play! Each volume of Cults of RuneQuest stands alone and covers a different pantheon, so you can purchase just the book for your favorite collection of Gods, or multiple books to expand your options (and understanding of the lore and mythology of Glorantha). The first pantheon books are The Lightbringers and The Earth Goddesses. The Cults of RuneQuest series also contains two other books: The Prosopaedia—a companion an encyclopedia and art book for the entire Cults of RuneQuest series—and Mythology is an indispensable GameMaster resource which dives deep into what myth and myth-making means in Glorantha, and how the magic of the world brings these myths to life. The Prosopaedia will be out in July, with Mythology coming later this year (and keep your eyes peeled for a wonderful cover reveal as well!) Cults of RuneQuest will continue into 2024 with the hotly anticipated cults of The Lunar Way, which will finally reveal the gods of the chaos-tolerating Lunar Empire of the north! The Lunar Way is set to release in 2024, followed by 5 more volumes in the Cults of RuneQuest series. What is RuneQuest? RuneQuest is Chaosium’s fantasy roleplaying game set in the Bronze age world of Glorantha. In RuneQuest, players create adventurers who explore a mythic world rich in magic. Everyone uses spells and anyone can be a warrior. Each RuneQuest adventurer is unique, defined by Runes chosen by the player and belonging to a definite culture and cult. RuneQuest uses Chaosium’s Basic Roleplaying D100 system which powers games like Call of Cthulhu and Rivers of London.
  12. Chaosium Con 2023 Event Spotlight: Indie creator print titles will be available at Chaosium Con! COMMUNITY CONTENT PRINT SALES AT CHAOSIUM CON Great news: to show off the extraordinary talent in our community content programs at DriveThruRPG, we'll have a selection of print-on-demand titles from the Miskatonic Repository and the Jonstown Compendium available to purchase at Chaosium Con in April! The Miskatonic Repository is Chaosium's platform on DriveThruRPG for independent creators of gaming material for the Call of Cthulhu tabletop roleplaying game. It was launched in December 2018. We recently celebrated its 1000th independent title! The Jonstown Compendium, established in December 2019, fulfils the same function for gaming in Greg Stafford's world of Glorantha with the RuneQuest RPG, along with the QuestWorlds, and 13th Age Glorantha systems. We recently celebrated its 250th independent title! You'll find the POD titles we've selected for sale at the Chaosium booth in the Great Market (dealer hall), while stocks last. . Q&A: Can you hold books in reserve for me? Supplies are limited – once they're gone, they're gone! (NB: we may restock our dealer table from time to time during the convention). If you missed a book you want, you can always order it from DriveThruRPG. Can you have this format available for me? To make things easier, we will stock each book in one format only, usually Standard Colour Softcover (where this exists). If you want a Premium Colour Hardcover instead, you can order from DriveThruRPG, but the price will be higher. I can't make it to Chaosium Con, can you ship me a printed book? No - but you can always order all of our print-on-demand community content titles direct from DriveThruRPG yourself. Can I sell my own POD books to customers without going through DriveThruRPG? No, as the publisher, we've made this special promotional arrangement with DriveThruRPG.
  13. Will save you the time: yes, you are completely mistaken. If you want to play in Glorantha in that vein, do check out 13th Age Glorantha if you haven't already (one of the co-authors was the author of D&D4).
  14. From our Frequently Asked Questions: Q: What is the 'Stafford Rule'? A: When Chaosium founder Greg Stafford passed away in 2018, John Wick reminded everyone of the 'Stafford Rule': “The older I get, the more I hear young RPG designers say ‘Never been done before!’ And then I just point to stuff Greg Stafford wrote about a few decades ago... Greg was brilliant. He was ahead of time. You know the Stafford Rule? Every game designer knows the Stafford Rule: 'If you believe you've come up with a clever mechanic, Greg Stafford already did it.'" You can read John's tribute to Greg in full here. P.S. Although the 'Stafford Rule' is really about revolutionary game mechanics, we do cheekily reference it in this recent parable linking happenings in a fictional setting (Greg's Glorantha) to real world drama.
  15. Apropos: Popular Instagram Photographer Confesses That His Work Is AI-Generated “I post AI-generated, human-finished portraits. Probably 95%+ of the followers don't realize. I'd like to come clean.” https://mymodernmet.com/joe-avery-ai-deception-instagram
  16. Chaosium Unveiled reveals The Red Book of Magic for RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha. Dive into the ultimate guide to magic for RuneQuest, this is the indispensable source for expanded Rune and spirit magic. It’s an essential expansion to the RuneQuest experience for players and Gamemasters alike. What the critics say about The Red Book of Magic "This isn't just about the spells; it is about the adventures that they help create.... Glorantha is probably the best researched and most cohesive settings in the world. Magic is integral to the setting, not a flimsy paste up." — Antonios S., RPGNet, Review of The Red Book of Magic. "Much more than just a big list of spells." — Reviews from R'lyeh, A Spellbinding Corollary.

  20. Yes - until there is clarity on the copyrightable status of AI art, we’re not going to approve its use in our community content programs. And until there is a system in place to recompense artists for their inclusion in AI art databases. Same answer as above. Same answer as above. Same answer as above.
  21. No. Yes. No new AI art after March 31, 2023.
  22. Nameless Horrors is the latest supplement for the award-winning tabletop horror game Call of Cthulhu, and releases worldwide on March 8th. The book features six scenarios across time, each showcasing a brand new aspect of the ever-building Cthulhu Mythos. Unlike many Call of Cthulhu supplements, the denizens of Nameless Horrors are bespoke entities meant to keep even the most seasoned of Investigators on their toes—the creatures that haunt these scenarios are indeed of the Mythos, but you won’t have encountered them before! The scenarios in Nameless Horrors take investigators from the signature setting of 1920s New England, all the way to Paris of the 1890s, and modern-day Britain. This book presents a toolkit of scenarios for Call of Cthulhu Keepers to insert into campaigns, add to their one-shot repertoire, or use as a source of inspiration for an entirely new slew of adventures across various times and locations. Nameless Horrors was previously published in softcover in the very early days of the current edition of Call of Cthulhu, and has since gone out of print. This updated edition contains updated layout, brand new art, and is presented in hardcover for the first time.
  23. Following on from our 16 December 2022 Statement about AI Art, in consultation with DriveThruRPG we are enacting this new policy for our Community Content programs, including the Miskatonic Repository, Explorer's Society, and Jonstown Compendium: AI Art: We are concerned about the ethics of AI art and its impact on the livelihoods of artists, and the ability of artists to maintain control over use of their creations. Effective 31 March 2023, AI art (e.g. Midjourney, Dall-E, etc) is not permitted in new titles for Chaosium’s community content programs, including the Miskatonic Repository, Jonstown Compendium, and Explorer’s Society. Our program guidelines will be updated in due course. Creators with questions or concerns should get in touch with our Community Ambassadors.
