  1. Magic World is a self-contained fantasy roleplaying game using the classic Basic Roleplaying (BRP) system, and is now available in print again, via DriveThruRPG's Print-On-Demand. 6. NOTE: Spoiler for Horror on the Orient Express / Reign of Terror More TTRPGs as fine art: "Le Portrait du Louvre"... Delphes Desvoivres, creator of the licensed Kickstarter art projects The Sedefkar Simulacrum and The Props of Nyarlathotep, is selling the original and prints of "Le portrait du Louvre". This is her masterly depiction of Le Comte de Fenalique, the iconic vampiric villain from our famous Call of Cthulhu campaign Horror on the Orient Express and associated volume Reign of Terror. Delphes's work is an oil painting on canvas, that was six years in the making. In addition to the original, 25 art prints are available that are hand-signed by Delphes with a certificate of authenticity. The size of the painting and prints is 57x68.5 cm. For further details check out Delphe's Patreon page, and The Props of Nyarlathotep Facebook page. Christian Lehmann writes: "In 1990, Richard Watts and I fathered the ultimate monster in Chaosium’s Horror on the Orient Express campaign, Le Comte de Fenalique, as he was known to some unfortunates in Paris just before the French Revolution. Le Comte, aka Fenalik, has an ancient history, steeped in darkness. He has had many guises, and we described him in some of them. At the basest stage of his devolution. At the height of his powers. Le Comte is as powerful as he is malevolent, as unknowable as he is corrupt. The French Royal Court is a perfect place for him to hide in plain sight. Magnificent candlelit ballrooms, delightful golden curtains hiding piss-stains and worse. He is Corruption walking among the living. He is at an unending Feast of his own design. Delphes’s portrait captures him perfectly: evil, devoid of any empathy, cruel, and immensely powerful. Our beautiful, beautiful son. 'You still don’t understand what you’re dealing with, do you?' asks Ash in Ridley Scott’s ALIEN, 'A perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.' This is what I see when I look upon the Portrait du Louvre."

  11. Any rules, conditions or variations beyond these time-honoured basics must have the assent of both parties - for example, agreeing to not use magic in the duel, or restricting the duel to certain weapons, or banning the use of Healing, or (in extreme cases) fighting to the Death instead of first fallen, etc. Sure, but there's a difference between duelling with a Humakti and fighting a Humakti duel. Unless both parties are at least lay members of Humakti, they're not fighting a "Humatki Duel". The Humakti doing the fighting know they're honourable. Although there are many good reasons to have such duels in public, they may not care what society thinks.
  12. For Immediate Release Ann Arbor, MI—Chaosium, creators of the award-winning Call of Cthulhu tabletop roleplaying game, announced today the April release of Basic Roleplaying: The Universal Game Engine in PDF, with hardcover to follow in 2023. Basic Roleplaying (“BRP”), is the game engine that powers Chaosium’s most popular games including Call of Cthulhu and RuneQuest. For 40 years the BRP system has been lauded for intuitive and easy-to-understand “roll low” mechanics, which makes games designed with BRP accessible and quick to learn. BRP games keep the focus on roleplaying, and exploring the setting that the game master has prepared. This release serves as an update to the core BRP system. Under the new Open RPG Creative License (ORC), game creators are free to use the BRP rules engine to develop their own games, royalty-free and without further permission from Chaosium. "Chaosium was one of the first game companies to sign on to the Open RPG Creative License initiative being spearheaded by our friends at Paizo,” said Chaosium COO Neil Robinson. “We're pleased to have our core rules system released under the ORC as an example of an open RPG license that anyone can use.” Basic Roleplaying: The Universal Game Engine contains all the core rules for character creation and advancement, deadly and tactical combat, magic, psychic powers, mutations, superpowers, weapons, equipment, and vehicles applicable to any setting and genre. Players can use this book to create a seamless roleplaying experience using an existing setting, or one of their own design. Basic Roleplaying: The Universal Game Engine will be released in PDF in April, and will be available directly from Chaosium.com, and DriveThru RPG. A hardcover release will follow later in 2023.
