  1. IMO, we've gotten a bit off topic.  Not a surprise!  🙂

In our party, the @GlorionEurmali is bonded mythically to a Wind Lord, and bonded culturally since he's cousin to some of the PCs.  The character has a high Honor and some Loyalties, so may actually behave a bit.  The Wind Lord's Sword Thane is a gruff Humakti who should give the trickster extra incentive to keep in line, while my Vingan, his cousin, is more "flexible with the Truth", but will try to direct the Eurmali's efforts in a positive, useful to the party direction.  This is about the "best" situation one could ever expect for a PC Eurmali.

The Lie spell is still broken and has been for 40+ years.

Putting it on the GM to "nerf" it, or find loopholes, seems to be the best suggestion.  I guess that's what we have to do.  Now that Initiates get reusable rune magic I fully expect the Eurmali to use Lie once or twice a season.

Wait, you can regain your Rune points by worshipping in associated cults' temples?

Page 315:  (some italics added for emphasis)

"Associated Cults: With a successful Worship roll during an associated cult’s high or seasonal holy day, initiates get 1D6 Rune points restored, and God-talkers, Rune Priests, and Rune Lords get 1D6+1 Rune points replenished. With a failure, no Rune points are restored."

You only get a D6, not 2D6 like from your own cult's seasonal holy day, and 0 instead of a D3 if somehow you fail.  (Which is almost impossible unless you are insanely stuuupid.)

That could easily be taken as no operations, as that involves causing harm

Easily?  So real-world doctors, whenever they operate, violate the Hippocratic Oath?

That argument aside, I'm very interested in seeing what you and Chris work out with Passions for handling Humakt PTSD.  A couple of our PCs are trying to "cure" Arlanda the Rat Girl (from Dregs of Clearwine, https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/320700/The-Dregs-of-Clearwine) of her serious and deadly Hazia addiction.

Note that "Lie" isn't a common Rune Spell, even amongst the Eurmali !

By some strange coincidence, every Eurmali I've ever met somehow knows Lie.  Saying it's uncommon is like protesting police brutality in the old Junta game.  No effect.

  5. The comparison of Lie to Wish, a game-breaking 9th level D&D spell, just shows how overpowered it is.

I know that Greg famously said "Kill the Trickster".

But the "solution" to "kill them", or to agree, yeah, Tricksters are "ridiculous", and cannot "be good party-members", the GM must step in to control their actions, is very unsatisfactory.

You are basically outlawing them as a character class.  And yes, they are a class the way most people treat them.

Far better, IMO, is to tone down Lie, make it a workable spell, and actually allow PCs to be Tricksters.  I don't expect this to actually happen though.

Casting spells on oneself (or on other willing targets) never requires a resistance roll, though.

Agreed.  And since you cast Lie on yourself, not the people listening, there is no resistance roll.  It just works.

Since it was an instant spell that is now "gone", nor can it be dispelled.

all spells except noted otherwise require a resistance roll.

A friend pointed out an even better counterargument why Lie requires no resistance roll: you cast it on yourself.

Spell text says "automatically", seems clear to me that there is no resistance roll.

IMO, this spell is ridiculous, with or without a resistance roll.

  9. I really like the @Runebloggerconcept of the "Anti-Critical" point.

In previous Fire and Sword (A RuneQuest like system by Ray Turney, set in Glorantha) campaigns, we would take a group vote after sessions on who deserved "Fame" (kind of like Reputation) and Hero Points.  This often got contentious, as you weren't supposed to suggest yourself, but often your PC did the best thing and everybody else is a selfish fool and forgot it.  (you get the idea).

Eventually we got a little better at this, but your group dynamics might make the "lets vote for it" process difficult.  We found it worked better if the GM took a leadership role.

I see no reason why a Chalana Arroy Initiate can't join them. Even a Priestess makes sense, if the Priestess is not tied to a temple, she can be a wandering healer, able to serve those not able to get to a temple.

I like the idea of "wandering healer".  But in service to an entire clan or tribe, not a group of murderhobo adventurers.

Also, **technically**, a Priestess is tied to a Temple.  At least 90%.  But a God-Talker could easily be wandering.

Even for Humakt, if one interprets is overly strictly, it means the cult has to solicit for new members from outsiders -- since if cult members don't have children, there won't be any brought up following their parents and hence already leaning to Humakt.

Though there is obviously parental influence on your pantheon, I don't think there is much influence on your exact God.  (In Glorantha)

  12. I can see Humakt as glum, asexual, ascetic.  Babs Gor as well.

But Storm Bull is also a Death cult, and the primary image one has of a Bull is, well, a large member, whose purpose is to make many babies.  Plus Storm Khans are explicitly allowed to marry and have many concubines.

they could want to have sexual activities for pleasure

    Technically, even this is dubious.

"To be strong with the Fertility Rune is to enjoy the pleasures of the flesh, most notably sexual desire"

"To be strong with the Death Rune is to separate oneself from the material world and seek to deny or even destroy the world of the senses. Such adventurers are relentless, ruthless, and ascetic..."

However, in our game, we are (currently) not bothering our Humakti (88% Death) and a couple of other fighters at 75% who all enjoy drinking and an occasional (or frequent) roll in the hay.  That seems like too big a penalty, for now.  We are using the Runes and Passions to guide roleplay, not force it.  My PC is the "weird" fighter in the group with high (85%) Fertility.

As for NPCs, the Runes do apply, we've met Nameless, enough said...
