tooley1chris
Next project... With the completion of my MW NPC generator it seems like a logical step to move on to an idea I've been toying with for awhile. A book of NPCs so chroniclers can easily reference that shady looking dwarf in the shadows of the tavern corner, that elven astrologer who claims the planets are aligning for a bad omen, the halfling that just sold you bad information ,the barmaid that just fluttered her eye lashes in your direction, the shaman who agrees to heal your wounds in exchange for some nobles horse, the snooty noble that stole a poor shamans horse, the street entertainer that enthralled you with beautiful singing, the thief that picked your pocket while you focused on some dandies song. On and on.... The book, as I imagine it now, will hold 2 males and 2 females of each race (elf, human, half orc, halfling) for each occupation listed in MW and Mage from Advanced Sorcery. 400 combinations with iindividual characteristics, skills, and equipment. These will all be of "normal" power, like starting characters. Not heroes or super villains. But of course it's easy enough for the chronicler to add 20 or 50 percent to skills, as needed. I'll include a 3D representation of each NPC using NWN2 toolset which will look similar to this: Granted, this is a big project and will of course be distributed free of charge, but I'd really like to know if anyone is really even interested in using such material, and if so, have any recommendations on what they'd like to see. tooley1chris
I've got the Astrologers done and am 1/2 way through the Bandits. Having some fun using my NPC generator as it's coming up with some neat variations! I'm pretty happy how the pictures are turning out as well. Didn't get as much done this weekend as I wanted but...if I can get an occupation done every 1.5 days, guess thats not bad... An occupation a month would be OK, so one every 1.5 days is very good indeed. Quote Simon Phipp - Caldmore Chameleon - Wallowing in my elitism since 1982. Many Systems, One Family. tooley1chris
Astrologers, Bandits, Beggers, Shop Keepers, Craftsmen, Tribal Craftsmen, Fishers, Diplomats, Hunters are done! Working on Mercenaries. As I go, I've decided to not include as many sub-races to some occupations. Probably little need for half-orc diplomats or shop keepers. I've included more half-orcs in the tribal crafter and hunter occupations to make up. Also, I've been adding a few extra humans to each occupation because I figure they are used as NPCs more often and it'll be nice to have more variety in those options. I've had NO luck getting my Manual of Monsters (http://basicroleplaying.com/showthread.php/3641-What-s-that-dragon-guarding?p=55414#post55414) put in the downloads section (it's too big a file and administrator must upload it) so I'm thinking on separating the occupations into separate PDFs so they're more readily available. Something like: Book One: "The Strong Arms of the Southern Reaches" Book Two:"The Urban Folk of the Southern Reaches " Book Three: "The Wisemen of the Southern Reaches" Book Four: "The Peasantry of the Southern Reaches" Ideas or Suggestions? An occupation a month would be OK, so one every 1.5 days is very good indeed. Well, it won't ALL be done for about a month so.... tooley1chris
Only a couple occupations remain. Then clean it up, convert it to PDF, (re-clean it after my PDF writer messes it up) then it's all yours. Wonder what my next project shall be... tooley1chris
Almost done...You run into a few snags with a 350+ page PDF... I'm pretty sure I'll have it cleaned up and posted (the FULL version, not individual ) in a couple hours...barring unforeseen goofiness. tooley1chris
YAY! Here it is! A Collection of Non-Player Characters for use with Magic World This is a book of more than 300 NPCs of various occupations and races meant to help Chroniclers quickly drop NPCs into any encounter. Each NPC has unique appearances, equipment, characteristics, and possible spell casting abilities. Each NPC represented here are of the “ordinary” quality. You will find no super heroes or mega villains here. Only people your players characters might interact in their travels. The individual NPCs have no backgrounds, no quirks, and few distinguishing characteristics. This is to enable the Chronicler ease in importing them into his or her campaign. Breath your own life into these, thy minions. Models were created using the Neverwinter Nights 2 Toolset. Special thanks to Chaosium and the creators of Magic World (Willis, Morrison, Monroe, and friends) for allowing us to adventure in such an outstanding world. https://www.dropbox.com/s/yzng0he1h0p0736/Peoples%20of%20the%20Southern%20Reaches_Full.pdf Quote Author QUASAR space opera system: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/459723/QUASAR?affiliate_id=810507 My Magic World projects page: Tooleys Underwhelming Projects
Sunwolfe
Very cool. Excellent work. David Ackerman, who wrote "The Southern Reaches" chapter of MW, is my brother. I look forward to sharing this mighty NPC tome with him. Cheers! tooley1chris
Since it's free, I sure hope you're getting your moneys worth! I really liked making this and it makes it so much easier when my players decide to interact with some random NPC...of course i still use my NPC generator as well so they dont get the same dudes and dudettes all the time.
