barrelv
the more recent PDFs I've bought from Chaosium (like Masks...) have the ability to turn off the background layer. While it makes the PDF look more plain, it's much easier to read, especially if I need to print something for reference at the table. It would be exceptional if this ability existed for the Keeper's Rulebook, especially for Chapter 16 for the rules summaries. I own a physical copy, but players aren't the most gentle creatures with physical media. Are there any plans to update the older PDFs like the Keeper's Rulebook to allow us to turn off the Background layer, or does anyone know a way to keep it from printing that I'm not aware of? Thanks! CastingsofCthulhu
It depends on the security settings of the PDF but it is possible to save as a txt file from acrobat reader. The formatting will be lost so you would have to fudge it about a bit, but you'd have the raw text.
barrelv
tried saving as Word and saving as Text first, no luck with either. I suspect it's something that would have to be done to the file on Chaosium's side to allow either of those (or I'd need something other than Acrobat Reader). Thanks for the suggestion though! CastingsofCthulhu
Thats understandable, it does depend on the security settings on the file. Export to Word required you to have an Acrobat or an Adobe CC licence but the normal save option under 'save as other' works for most PDFs but I doubt Chaosium want people ripping off their text. barrelv
normally I'm a "it is what it is" when trying to print digital files - but figured it was worth asking after both Scritch Scratch and Masks let me turn off the background image. Mike M
I believe its not possible to turn off the background layer in the Rulebook at this time - I will check and ask if there's something that can be done.
Mike M
Yes, as I thought, the rulebook does not have layers that can be turned on and off - it used an older template. Newer books use a different template that allows the bakcgrounds to be turned off. Apologies.

Malc
If you bought the PDF from Chaosium, you could try the ePub (or mobi or prc, depending on what device you use) version of the book? It’s much lighter on images. Edited July 9, 2018 by Malc Fixed the spell checker’s typo
