For those wondering where Rick pulled this description from, it can be found in the Gloranthan Classics version of Griffin Mountain, p193 (it's a two pages chapter on dragonewt plynths).

    Thanks for the pointer.

I just noticed the illustration in the section labeled Dragonewt Band on page 40 of my Runequest: Gamemaster Adventures book. Part of the drawing is obscured as it runs under a hit location table, but the lower left corner of the page shows what looks one of a pair of "peculiar standing stones which appear mostly to be crude and stylized representations of dragons, wyrms, and an otherwise unknown thing vulgarly called a “frogosaurus”.

It's not obscured by the location table on my PDF.... what are you reading this on? Or is that the physical book?

It's also not obscured in my print version of the Gamemaster Adventures book. So I can assume only, that @Bren refers to an older version of the PDF ...

  2. Wyrms Footnotes 15 contains a section about travelling in the Marsh:

    Quote

    Traveling in the Marsh

Normal beasts of burden and all but the best trained mounts refuse to set even a single hoof into it. Riding such a mount would be impossible, regardless. Only the ducks with their natural affinity to the terrain can move at close to normal speed.

Difficulty        Location                Distance in a day
Very Hard      Upland Marsh     10 miles by boat
                                                       5 miles by foot
                                                       3 miles by horse
                                                       None by wagon

Delecti’s corrupted servant Rihalya protects her master with her perpetual cloak of mist. Thus, visibility is limited to roughly 100 feet or so during the day and perhaps as little as 3 to 20 feet at night. She rises to her thickest as part of the preparations for expanding the Marsh. She precedes the foul dance of the Daughters of Darkness whenever they choose to venture out of the Marsh as well. Troll Darksense is basically useless, as are most forms of extended vision, unless magically enhanced.

The air is filled with all manner of spooky sounds and odd odors. At times, the stench of decay can be choking. Few beings that enter the Marsh ever forget its distinct smell. Most flying creatures also avoid the airspace over the Marsh, but trained flying mounts could be ridden. All but intelligent mounts would never dare to fly down into the mist let alone attempt to land in the Marsh unless forced.

  3. Thanks for this really helpful description! But I have an additional question:

Casting a Detect Magic spell on the area will reveal that a Warding 12 spell extends 15 meters outward from the plinth. The warding “stakes” are four basalt stones buried one meter below the ground on the perimeter. A dragonewt symbol (A triangle with a horizontal line through it) will appear on the surface of the earth directly above each of them.

What does 'will appear' mean? Is it just the top of the "stake" jutting out of the earth? Or more like a magical glowing appearing out of nowhere? Anything else?

😄 It is in fact the reason why I am considering Trollpak (I have the box from RQ3 and the separate supplements) but for the one listed above, I am not sure what justification I have to spend $150 since I already have the excellent Glorantha Classics.

Regarding Trollpak: I've did a fast (and not too detailed) comparison between the RuneQuest Classic Trollpak PDF (which is the electronic version of the respective POD) and my RQ3 version of Trollpak and related supplements.

My main impression is, that the RQ3 Trollpak box contains mainly the same information as the RuneQuest Classic Trollpak. The differences I could make out:

    • The Sazdorf clan information (history and genealogy) has been moved into the RQ3 supplement The Haunted Ruins.
    • The history in the RQ3 supplment ends in the year 1562, whereas in the RuneQuest Classic Trollpak it goes until 1617 (including the infiltration by Londra and the Wooden Sword).
    • The genealogy in the RuneQuest Classic Trollpak contains some more details.
    • Similar the Sazdorf adventure and the descriptions of the ruins has been moved into the RQ3 supplement The Haunted Ruins.
    • Several of the sections and adventures from the RuneQuest Classic Trollpak have been moved for RQ3 into the supplement Into the Troll Realms (The Caravans, The Moth-Riders, Skyfall Lake, Grubfarm and Flying Trollkin).

So besides getting the information in electronic format it seems, you need the RuneQuest Classic Trollpak POD only, if you want to get the extended history and genealogy of the Sazdorf clan ...

My Who Do You Think You Are Kidding, General Fazzur? map in The Duel at Dangerford was quickly knocked up using MS Powerpoint; I ran it through an online photo filter thing to look slightly less flat.

I know, that @jajagappatoo uses Powerpoint for creating his maps, which sometimes leads to very impressive results (e.g. his Nochet map).

I've tried to play around a bit with Campaign Cartographer, which has led to good results indeed - if you invest a certain amount of time.

That’s different. Those aren’t game engines Chaosium owns, so they can’t require people not to do Arthurian games with them. AFAIK Chaosium doesn’t own the license to Arthurian legends, just their version published in Pendragon books. But they do own QuestWorlds, so they can make it part of the permission to use the QuestWorlds SRD that nobody can use QWSRD with settings from official Chaosium games.

But isn't HeroQuest Glorantha already/now a Chaosium setting used with the QuestWorlds SRD?

This appeared yesterday (Wednesday) on my door. Order previous week on Thursday. So less than a week between ordering and receiving these wonderful books 😲.

Fastest delivery every for any Gloranthan product!
That can mean only, that Mastakos must have been involved here too!

Living in Munich, Germany this order was handled by the new European warehouse (located in Poland, I think). Obviously this new warehouse is a real win (at least for me :) ...)

  8. So if I read this correctly, HeroQuest Glorantha will be republished (and possibly re-worked) as QuestWorld Glorantha?

Similar approach for The Coming Storm and The Eleven Lights?

What about Sartar:Kingdom of Heroes, the Sartar Companion and Pavis:Gateway to Adventure?

Or is it more likely, that the PDFs of these product will be moved the HeroQuest and Glorantha Vault, and only new Glorantha products for QuestWorlds will get the new brand?

Btw, just thought I'd note that while I'm not running a Valley of Plenty campaign (still running the Orlmarth/Colymar campaign from SKoH), I've drafted in the Wildlings as NPC's into the Orlmarth clan - just too good not to include! 🙂

Ah, I knew I had heard of them (I'm one of the players, who's character(s) are currently looking for them ...)

I have also been reading through Dorastor Land of Doom, because I am still drawn to Riskland, but right now there doesn't seem to be a legal way to get this PDF, and used copies are in the $200 range. No matter how much I love Riskland, I am always going to nope right out at that price point. Or am I wrong, and there is a legitimate way to purchase the DLOD PDF?

    ...

Dorastor: Land of Doom is a Runequest 3 supplement, and so far I'm not aware of any legal PDF versions of Runequest 3 modules. So, no, there is no legitimate way to purchase this PDF.

But anyway: welcome to the tribe!

  11. From King of Sartar (2015 edition), The Argrath Book, p.157:

    Quote

Olorost, on the left bank, is where the Stream joins the River. This bustling city is one of the
off‐loading points for goods going farther north. The road from here crosses the Dragonspine
Range at Dragon Pass. Here the road passes between the precipitous, and reportedly spectacular,
rock formations of this landmark which has lent its name to the whole land.

    Which map is your reference?

If it's the map on p.11 of the Smoking Ruins adventure module, then yes, the ruins on top of the printed word 'Ruins' south of Centaur Ford should be Voss Varainu, and the ruins below the same word mark the remains of the Zoo, which - according to King of Sartar (2015 edition), The Argrath Book, p.157 again - was near the southern gate of Voss Varainu.

  12. I think one of the important points regarding the Glorantha Sourcebook and the Guide to Glorantha is the respective year of reference.

    Guide to Glorantha: 1621 ST

    Glorantha Sourcebook: 1625 ST

This means, that the Glorantha Sourcebook contains information about four years, which never made it into the Guide to Glorantha. But even information about years covered by both books is much more detailed in the Sourcebook.

Robin Laws and I have been working on two books set in Pavis and the Big Rubble, set in 1625-1627. The city has undergone an awful lot of changes.

Have been? Does that mean, the books are done basically? Or does it mean, work is on hold, because other projects became more important?

Any number of possible reasons, but you are correct that he is dead and was not resurrected.  Could have been oathbound, and the oath kept him from returning.  Could have been that is soul was captured.  Could be that his soul was severed by Yanafal Tarnils (or his stand-in) and no one could undo what Death had done to him.  Could be that his soul was eaten by the dragon.  Could be that they had been in the Underworld and crossed the River Styx already when he died so no means to bring him back.

Ok, so there is no 'canonical' explanation, just the usual speculation ... 😉

Minaryth Purple is killed but not eaten (only the heel of one boot is eaten if I recall).

Just never understood, why Minaryth Purple has not been resurrected afterwards - or was he, and I have missed something here?
