I considered painting the lion noses black, but was concerned it might a bit off.  Looking at the photos there is a 90% chance that I'll go back and touch those up.    These are yet more Mad Knight figures, as I try to work through my backlog of them.  They were surprisingly fun to paint, especially after the Axe Sisters, which seemed a bit of a chore for some reason.   It is also nice to paint a unit that is well covered by the Armies and Enemies of Dragon Pass work, and also isn't a heavy infantry unit.

You could make the noses a reddish brown like a red-nosed hound, that way they won't be as glaring as black noses.

    Beautiful figures as always @Dissolv

  2. @GAZZA Are you using Excel to keep track of the Strike Ranks? I'm considering Roll20 for a RQG game, and will have about 8 players. I'd like there to be a Strike Rank counter that would be visible to all players so that they know when they can act and when the NPCs will act.

We've played OSR games and only used Discord, and the dice roller commands, and it worked well. It will be different with RQG and we may need to use Roll20 to keep track of character locations during combat.

@borbetomagnus  That happened to me once before, when I copied the image directly from Google photos.  The problem was invisible to me, as everything showed up on my end.

This time I downloaded the photos, and then copied them from my OS.  Do they work for you now?

@Dissolv Working now. The figures are excellent! I have the Mad Knight Axe Sisters set too (Like you, I'm collecting all of the Mad Knight miniatures since they are the best Glorantha figures currently being produced). But, I've not had a chance to paint them yet. I'm still working on the Broo pack.

  4. @Sir_Godspeed

Nice figures in the Rackham fantasy line. Some of the weapons are larger-than-life, anime or Exalted RPG, appropriate rather than Bronze Age, but YGMV, and I do like the "Orlanthi with the storm rune."

    @Dissolv

For some reason I'm unable to view the images, but it's probably me. When I try to open the images in a new tab I'm directed to a Google login page. Perhaps I need to be logged into a Google account to view the images. I'll figure it out.

I've not done much painting for the past few months due to starting a new job and spending free time researching for a gaming project I have put off for a lot longer than miniatures paining. I do need to take some photos of recently completed figures and upload here.

  5. Here are a few more painted miniatures that I've completed over last the couple of months. It was a slow month for painting, but I'm still making progress. My backlog of unpainted miniatures has grown though due to the arrival of the Troll Caravan sets from Mad Knight. It's not necessarily a bad thing since the Mad Knight miniatures are simply awesome!

    Enjoy the pictures.

That's good to know that the Egyptian mythology line is 28mm and it's probably true that the Amazons are at the same scale. I sent a message to Crocodile Games via their "Contact Us" web form and I'll let you know their answer when I receive it. I'd like to get their official word on the miniatures' scale.

I emailed Crocodile Games about the scale of the Egyptian mythology miniatures line and here's the detailed response I received from Chris who permitted me to post the reply.

"Scale is a difficult thing to answer, as there seems to be lots of interpretations of what a 28/30/etc mini is, and where they are measured to?  The head of the eye?

I describe our miniatures as 28mm 'heroic' scale, the same scale as Warhammer miniatures from the 1990s and 2000s (though not oversized like the modern GW stuff.).   A bit more robust that the same era of Ral Partha miniatures.  I was a sculptor for both companies before starting this, and my scale has stayed essentially the same throughout. WarGods minis fit nicely with most conventional 28/30mm miniature ranges and scenery, they are not a weird scale.

Most of our warriors are photographed on a 20x20mm square base, so that should give you a good point of reference to figure out their general size.

    Thanks,

Jeez, those are really good. You're making me feel self-conscious! :P

Thank you! Astigmatism, a manifestation of Chaos, is winning the battle against my Harmony eye glasses. 😋  All of which makes me slow at painting.

Oh, don't worry, I was just taking the piss out of us forum regulars here. ;)

    Oh, I know. 😀

The BRP forums are one of the most welcoming forums I've participated in. Some here may remember the flame wars on the Ars Magica Berkeley mailing list or RPG.net in the early 2000s. I don't know what was in the water back then.... 😋

UM THOSE ARENT ACCURATE TO THE BREEDS FOUND IN DRAGON PASS AS PER RUNEQUEST GLORANTHA haha just kidding but could you imagine though? 😁

I know, but they were inexpensive (US$4.99 for a pack of two). They can also work for my western frontier games.

  10. These miniatures are from WizKids unpainted line of figures for (mostly) D&D games, but I think they're perfectly usable for Glorantha. Especially for Rune spells such as Summon Cult Spirit (RQG p. 342).

Air Cult Spirits. I used real leaves cut to size and glued them on the miniatures for added effect. Sealed with clear matte spray. Hopefully the matte spray will prevent the leaves from decomposing further. Also, I didn't use the small black bases that were included in the package and replaced the bases with clear ones. That way you can put an air spirit on a clear "flight" base to show that it's hovering above the ground (see second image below).

Here are WizKids' medium earth elementals, which can be used for Gloranthan Earth Spirits.

And the Dream Weft. I attempted to make it appear that blue-white light was emanating from between the wraps under the hood and from the open sleeves of the figure. It didn't turn out as I intended however.

  12. Here are a few more figures that I've completed.

Here's a Great Troll from Infinity Engine's RuneQuest Sampler Set. There's a very faint Man rune on the shield.

"Claw" with necklace of severed hands, and Big Rhino from MadKnight's Broo Pack. I still have a few more of the Broo Pack to paint.

I used the Old Glory figures with one or two exceptions for the leader types (I am no longer sure where I found them).  The riders are Sarmatians, the armor meant to bone, and the Buffalo themselves are from the West Wind Cowboy line up.  In retrospect I might have made the bases more Praxian, but the whole campaign was being run in Dragon Pass at the time.  The bases also need more vegetation, but I got photo-happy before I finished them.

Thanks, @pachristian I have some bison from Iron Wind Metals that I'm in the process of painting, but they're just standing still. I like the Acheson Creations bison's pose and will be getting some of those. I've also been on the hunt for zebras. Thanks for sharing!

I couldn't find measurements on the newer models (only that the square bases are 20mm), but when going back to their older Egyptian mythology line, it says 28mm for those, and I haven't seen anything to suggest it's changed.

https://www.crocodilegames.com/ has models based on Egyptian and Greek bronze age mythology.

For example, they have Mycaenean models which would fit well as Kethaelan Orlanthi. They also have Amazons which could make Yelornans for example, or Lunar cavalry.

EDIT: Went back to the first page of this thread and just realized I've linked to this site before. Oops! 😅

Thanks for sharing again, @Sir_Godspeed. I've bookmarked the link. I like the Crocodile Games Amazon Outriders and Raiders. I ordered Amazons from Bad Squid, but could use some mounted infantry.

Do you know if the Crocodile Games miniatures are 28mm or 30mm?

  17. 23 hours ago, lordabdul said:

Yeah those Broos are really nice although (more shamefully) I haven't assembled them yet (I still need to research what kind of glue I need). But yes I've noticed that their base is uneven -- I think it's because they're not meant to be used as a base, and instead you're supposed to glue that to a "real" base like @Dissolv did.

I used Zap A Gap Glue (super glue) to attach the metal figures to plastic bases. After I ran out of that glue I used The Army Painter Super Glue and it's working fine. Citadel has a super glue too and it probably works just as well. The key is to file or cut the uneven metal so that it's flat and can be adhered to the plastic base. I bought these round bases that I use for larger figures, but I'm old school and prefer hex bases. Unfortunately I don't know of any manufacturers that make hex bases larger than 25mm.

Yeah I saw that last week and... .well, let's just not go into how much money I spent on the spot.

You and I both @lordabdul . I placed a Lance & Laser order for a large quantity of figures a few weeks ago when their (Glorantha) miniature line reappeared. I just got an email this morning that my order was updated to "Shipped" !!!

@Dissolv You may need to resize your images to a smaller file size. I suspect that may be the issue since I'm not seeing your uploaded images either. I had to resize my images from 4MB down to around 30KB. They turned out fine for screen viewing. I may have overexposed some of the pictures, but that's the photographer in me nitpicking my ownself.
