  1. By happy coincidence there is a thread on rpg.net right now, "Can anyone explain Runequest to me?". https://forum.rpg.net/index.php?threads/can-anyone-explain-runequest-to-me.844345/
  2. I'm not sure its so much about being "lore correct", but knowing enough to grasp the basics. While everyone on these boards has had to explore Glorantha for themselves, many of them over several decades, only some of us have had to cut their Gloranthan teeth on RQG specifically, in the last year or so. Past editions might have been easier to grasp. Or harder? Certainly different. Sure, getting into a new game takes some work, but the density of Glorantha makes it a bit more difficult to penetrate from a standing start. To an extent you can take it or leave it, but not much, as in RQG the setting is deliberately organic to the rules, and vice versa. Im looking forward to the starter set to see how it aproaches things.
  3. Being a relative newcomer to Runequest myself, I found that because the setting and the rules are so intertwined and so exhuastive (runes, cults etc) , you do need to acrue a good deal of knowledge about both before the RQG penny (or bolg) drops. If you're not overwhelmed, you're not paying attention. I'd bought all the RQG books, the quickstart, the source book, found the online comic, found the wiki, and read them all. But it wasn't until I got the King of Sartar in recent drivethrurpg sale that I was comfortable enough to feel consciously ignorant, and start thinking about taking the finacial plunge for the guide. In other words, just read everything until it clicks. Good luck!
  4. In Melbourne Australia, with the coupon, it came to A$102.68, or US$72.99. Pretty good value. At my FLGS, that would get me The One Ring core book and enough change for 2 postage stamps.
  5. Still not entirely sure if we're at war with Eurasia or Eastasia. Just smile and nod, and see what the Chaosium store says tomorrow.
  6. I've spent quite some time reading this over and over again. I can only conclude the same as Bill the barbarian and Skovari, but I can't help but think it sounds too good to be true, so it probably isn't. But if it is true, I take back everything I muttered through gritted teeth when I first read about the delay in release to next week.
  7. That's not a bad idea, but I don't think I'd shell out for an new physical copy of the core book unless the discount token for the first printing would apply to the second printing as well. Is that the case?
  8. This is pretty much what I wanted to hear. Thanks.
  9. I have the hardcover of the core book, and pdfs of the bestiary and screen/adventure book, all bought from Chaosium.com. l expect to get the physical versions once they are available . Can the slipcase be purchased seperately to round out the set piecemeal?
  10. This article from the ABC (the Australian BBC) posted today makes some interesting reading: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-11-27/sharks-snakes-crocodiles-horses-australias-most-dangerous/10534786
  11. I notice that in the core book all the cults have staring skills of a +20%, a +15%, and a +10% (and in a few instances additional ones too) in certain skills. Except Yinkin, which has only a +20% in track and a +15% in Beastspeech. is this an oversight?
  12. This doesn't include sharks. Spiders ate them all.
  13. Theophilus Noakes can still be seen in Northcote, shouting at trams.
  14. I was pleased today to see in the Blog that Chaosium will indeed be distributing Paladin. MoN, completing the Runequest slipcase set, and now two Paladin books will all make for a big order in 2019.
  15. The Mongoose version had a Granbretan book, plus some scenarios in "Signs and Portents", and I think some articles in S&P that were supplemetary.
  16. Would Chaosium distribute other Nocturnal titles? Paladin, for example? Once its out.
  17. Condolences to the family and friends of Mr Greg Stafford, to everyone at Chaosium, and to everyone who loved his work.
  18. Mine arrived on Thursday morning, despite me screwing up my own delivery address on the website. Thanks Dustin, you rock!
  19. Stygian Fox had "Brotherhood of the Tapestry" lined up for Cthulhu Dark Ages. The status of that might offer some clue as to the status of CDA. Unfortunately, there hasnt been any mention of it for a while.
  20. Canberra is an odd place, a made-to-order capital in the middle of nowhere. Its basically a government town, and as such largely populated by public servants ; a borgeois bubble of rule-followers in splendid isolation. My son, 23 and a recent MA graduate, moved there for work this year from Melbourne, and describes it as "the dullest and most repressed place on Earth". The situation the OP has shared is VERY Canberra, although it could feasibly happen anywhere in Australia.
  21. Very keen to finally get my hands on this, but really I want the core book/ bestiary/GM screen pack/slipcase version. This is a thing, right? Do I get all four items piecemeal or will it come as a job lot?
