  1. Any EMP is likely to affect the PLSS too. Jamming is easy, even nice restaurants have cell phone jammers.
  2. Maybe the ship's comm is broadcasting very loudly on all channels, that would could block the suit comms. That, or there could be a jammer that they could trip getting in, something to do with the ship's automated defenses maybe.
  3. It would add suspense, though players might question why the suit radios aren't working.
  4. Wouldn't the suits have their own radios? Plus, there is that other thing ...
  5. Blade Runner is good, one of my favorite movies; and if Clarence doesn't want to do certain books, farming them out would work. However, I am not sure of Clarence's stance on such things, such as releasing his rules set into the wild.
  6. Also, any plans for future M-Space releases? Say a spacecraft book? What are your ideas on Androids/Robots? A post-Apocalypse book could be good as well.
  7. I felt similar about reading Kierkegaard years ago: "a bit on the pessimistic side but otherwise enjoyable," existentialism always is, in its way. I have mind to use this quote from Paul Bowles and The Sheltering Sky when asked about character motivation: Death is always on the way, but the fact that you don't know when it will arrive seems to take away from the finiteness of life. It's that terrible precision that we hate so much. But because we don't know, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless. I do not have a timeline as to a start date for sidereal, I figure on looking for players pretty soon, however. Still just working through some things, such as tech: Blasters are slang for Advanced Diode Pumped Alkali Laser Weapons, the fuel tanks for spacecraft fusion reactors are 20 kg Hydride Storage Vessels here is a x-ray picture of one:
  8. I thought it might be named after the philosopher as well, which I did have a thought as to the naming convention, any reason a scout would be named after a philosopher, or a churchyard or graveyard?
  9. Thanks! Yes, it is. I am slowly assembling the constituent parts of the Sidereal setting I sent you, this will be the organization the players start with, and probably needless to say, Darklight has a deep dark secret. The plan as it stands is the players start as "fixers" crewing a Kierkegaard from the core rules.
  10. M – SPACE CIRCLE Name: Darklight Corp, a subsidiary of Apollo Industries. Leader: CEO (Former Plenipotentiary Minister) Chike Idowu Influence: 13 (Human Continuum) Size: 3 Resources: 17 Attributes: Connected 70% Info Retrieval 90% Memes 40% Politics 70% Ideas: Wealth (Anarchy) Traits: A small subsidiary corporation, with positions often filled by former public employees, dedicated to research and other activities beneficial to the advancement of knowledge and all those who reside in the Human Continuum. Darklight Corporation of Enceladus is a good example of a modern commercial entity, and as a research corp. most of what it trades in is data or information, thus the corporate motto: “The Darkest Light Is Before The Dawn.” Exploration and planetary surveys are main line of work, though their agents have been used as fixers in various situations, as well as neutral observers. Benefits: 85% Notes: Headquartered on Enceladus. Operates through local offices, with an open network style using small groups as teams to accomplish tasks, from specialized research to general teams of "fixers". Good access to used tech and equipment sold by the navy and scout corps, as well as cutting edge tech made by Apollo Corp subsidiaries or sister industries such as Artemis Military.
  11. The 2300 to BRP pdf has High Explosive Fragmentation Hand Grenades doing 4d6 damage with a blast radius of 4 meters, where for every meter from the center of detonation, subtract 1d6 of damage.
  12. Thanks! I will let you know. For a long time I have used txt or word for character sheets, word prints to pdf if I need it, not form fillable though. Often I use a combination of pics and text in posts for play-by-post type games.
  13. She is pretty demure, more adapted to the technical side, at least that's the feeling I get. In my experience, there is always that NPC that needs to be left on the space ship, she would be good as that person.
  14. First M-Space Character, a little sparse on the standard skills, a good spacecraft crew NPC I think. I used the txt I made and pasted it into a word doc, then made a pdf off of that. Rica Honnas.pdf
  15. That is nice work! Venus Terra-formed: In my setting, it's not this far along, it still has cloud cities and atmosphere transformers, Mercury has been brought in as the main satellite (moon), as well as the core liquefied an set spinning so as to get the dynamo effect. Mars has an external band in orbit to create a magnetosphere, and the main issues are the lack of nitrogen, and the presence of toxic salt perchlorates.
  16. I have Mars and Venus being Terra-formed in my Sidereal setting, though in laziness, I have just used maps off the internet:

    Gen Con 2017

That's cool, thanks for the tip, if I am in town on Wednesday, I'll check it out. I am an hour north, so it's not out of the way, but parking is a pain.

    Gen Con 2017

I am thinking of dropping by Saturday afternoon.
  20. I'll have to go dig for my notes, as it is from my last computer, but I remember looking at the numbers of escape velocity, because the sphere's diameter is massive, which would also govern the inverse square on gravitation, orbital velocity, and relevant to tether length; they are huge though. Not to say it's isn't possible given a high enough tech level, it just isn't a commonly thought about factor, and this is a small Dyson. Set up to rotate, the lever arm of the tether could launch vehicles at quite a velocity too.
  21. Though for say someone like us, we might be able to land, it would probably trap us there. Space Elevators are cool (I call them tethers in my games), though even off this small Dyson Sphere, would be enormously long.
  22. That's a smaller "more realistic" one as well. problem with bigger ones is that they would take an enormous amount of material, and have practically no surface gravity. It is a question of how much territory one needs, and what pop one has; scientifically, I have a feeling that technology is an emergent quality from population level. Maybe not though, except if you just used 10% of the 44,000 Earths as land, and the rest was water, you could also use wind and wave farms for a lot or most of your energy needs. It still represents almost a fantastically large area, exploring 4,400 Earth's area on some ancient Dyson Sphere would be a campaign and a half.
  23. Here is a link to a blog from MIT about a little different sci-fi interpretation of a Dyson Sphere: https://www.technologyreview.com/s/536171/physicists-describe-new-class-of-dyson-sphere/ It's "small" in comparison to the standard of literature, and the one I created in my Traveller milieu from the paper, is a small Dyson Sphere built around a white dwarf, with a surface area of 243,284,935,093,993 sq km versus 510,072,000 sq km area of the earth, or equivalent to 44,153 Earths. Gravity is 0.78 Earth's, escape velocity might be nightmarish though, given the diameter, at least for duration and reaction mass. A few moons worth of material, populated area is on the exterior, and it orbits another star, so it is part of a binary. Eclipse Phase has a Dyson in one of their books, Gatecrashing iirc. Some riffs: The Warden arrived long ago and is the station keeper on a tether to orbit. There is a system of gates around the planet, shades of SG-1.
