  1. Well the Saga of the Savage North is well and truly funded and we are currently closing in on Paul Mitchener's The Clockwork Palace

Read more about The Clock Work Palace.

Beyond this, I've just released details of another set of stetch goals that should lead us to the end of the campaign.

    £8000 The OpenQuest Companion

A book of alternative and additional rules, which for one reason or another didn’t make the cut to the main rulebook but are still valid and useful.

    £9000 OpenQuest Dungeons

One of the biggest requests regarding OpenQuest I get is to write some a D&D conversion. This isn’t it, but it is a book that you use to introduce newcomers to D100 gaming. It will contain four adventures and rules and advice on how to run D100 Dungeons.

£10,000 Support for a Virtual Tabletop

This is one I’ll have to research because I tend to use Google Meet with dice rolls on trust and theatre of the mind combat. Roll 20 comes instantly to mind, but as a publisher, I’m in intrigued by Astral since they have partnered with drivethrurpg.com.

$11,000 The Four Emperors by Paul Mitchener

Dr Mitch loves a bit of historical fantasy. Not only did he co-author Age of Arthur with fellow D101 Games ally Graham Spearing, but he wrote Hunters of Alexandria at Fate game based in the early years of the Roman occupation. Ultimately this will be a standalone roleplaying game using OpenQuest which covers the Roman World during the time after Nero’s suicide and the rapid succession of four emperors after him. Immediately this will be a republishing of Non Semper Erit Aestas (last seen in OpenQuest Adventures), as standalone adventure/sourcebook that all backers would receive. Consider it a preview/QuickStart for the full game, which Dr Mitch gets the green light to write/develop in 2021.

    £15,000 OpenQuest Patron’s Choice

If we reach this lofty goal, I will give the OpenQuest Patrons a list of possible projects which they will vote upon, and then I will work on the winner. The options will be previous D101 Games books, that can be converted easily to OpenQuest. All backers will get it in pdf/pod, but OpenQuest Patron’s will get it signed and sent. At the time of writing, there are three OpenQuest Patron slots left.

  2. Nearly a week on, he OGL SRD Website funded a couple of days ago.

We are now closing in (but £71 away) on the Saga of the Savage North, the new updated version of the Savage North with all new adventures.

Once we've hit that stretch goal, I'll post and update about the next setting/adventure book we have planed Paul Mitchener's The Clock Work Palace.

That's not the only typo or mistake in the preview, but I will wait with proof-reading until the draft is made available at the end of the campaign.

It was a wonderful howler, that I'm glad got spoted early on :) This is why I'm not allowed to edit my own work :D

  4. I'm pleased to say that the Kickstarter is now live, and happily funding as I drink my morning coffee :)

If you back it within the next two days (by Wednesday 3rd 12 midday ) you'll be one of the Early Birds who "Catches the Wyrm" and will get a free pdf of an exclusive Quickstart adventure.

  5. I'll be posting a 20+ page preview PDF of the first two chapters later today. It will contain the Introduction that gives an overview of the contents of the book, and the Characters chapter which contains all the information about character generation and advancement, with a bit explanation about how the system works.

I'll also be posting on openquestrpg.com a list of everything that has changed from the last release for those people who are interested.

  6. Still by categories, but its easy enough to add up the skill points and let the players do it completely free form.

Skill bases are unchanged from OQ2.

Print will be Print on Demand, with the option of me sending it to you directly. I may if the numbers warrant it look into doing a print run.

The book will be black and white through out.

Any chance of you keeping it going for another 6-9 months (ish) so your own new offering is closer to market, with a firm & imminent ETA?

Nope, it was on life support as it was. I'm basically tidying house for the release of OpenQuest 3. If I don't gracefully retire it now, there will be no incentive for me to a new version.

I went to your webstore, where it's marked as being on backorder...? <snip>

Its available via Lulu as a POD book. I simply order a copy on your behalf.

However if you want to get round the horrendous shipping charges from me in the UK, try ordering direct:

Would you be willing to say a bit more about this?
In particular:  what do you expect to be doing in that "wider" scope?

Ok first off, I'll probably be using the same non-OGL system that Skyraiders of the Floating Realms uses. Its faster and more cinematic than OQ, and a smaller rulesbase to start building on.

I'll be bringing elements of The Company over, such as the equipment lists, but not the fine detail and certainly not the endless lists of ammo and guns. Although there will be a way of guns being detailed so that its not just "Rifle 1d8 damage, Automatic Pistol 1d6 damage" etc.

Characters will be made up of

An upbringing, this is background which tells you how they were brought up as a child.

A previous service. This was a career that they were in before becoming a Freelancer

Both of which will give them more skills/character options.

Then although technically they are a Freelancer (the modern equivalent of an Adventurer) because they've left their service, they will have an Organanisation, that gives them access to more training, equipment and other benefits going forward. The Blades Group, a  independent Private Military Service Provider (aka legal mercenary company)  from the The Company will be one of them. But I'm thinking rogue Shadow Government cells, those less than state-sanctioned mercenary groups, or civilian groups (such as a News Agency) as well.

Overall I want a game that with supplements , covers all these possibilities:

    https://sorcererundermountain.d101games.com/2016/04/03/the-company/

The main rule book and its setting supplements/adventures will be nice 6 x 9 inch books . Like those thrillers you pick up from the book shop, or from the Airport stationers like my dad did when he was a frequent traveller abroad :D

  8. OK I'm a bit behind on getting the Quickstart done, so instead I'll be making the first two chapters, the Introduction (which gives a good run down of the contents) and the Characters chapter (which is complete character generation and advancement, and a quick run down of the skills) as a preview.  Just tidying this up now and contacting various collaborators. with the aim of opening the Kickstarter on Tuesday Sept 1st :)

  9. The Company is ceasing to be published in a months time (Sept 18th).

Its currently available in both PDF and Print with free pdf over at the D101 web store.

Its had a long history with us since it was originally published in 2011 and had its roots in an OpenQuest Modern project that started in 2010.  Unfortunately it never recovered from the disappearance of its principal author, which makes doing a straight second edition difficult for a number or reasons.

I've plans for a D100 game based on modern warfare, which will have elements of The Company, but it will have a different name and a wider scope. Look out for it in early 2021.

But for now, in one month's time The Company will no longer be available.

  10. Hi folks

The following OpenQuest titles will be discontinued by this time next month.

    • The Savage North
    • Life and Death
    • Crucible of Dragons

They've been available for a long time now, between 10 and 6 years, and during that time the idea of redoing them has come up many times.

You'll be seeing a re imagined version of Savage North (tentatively entitled The Chronicle of The Savage North: Adventures in the Frozen Barbarian Lands ) since I've been using the setting for OQ3 playtests and its been a ton of fun :D  But none of the current set of adventures is going to feature in the new book.

Life and Death is getting a complete re-write. With the aim of expanding the setting and looking at the adventure in detail. I'm certainly thinking of re-writing the ending.  Also it may be the setting of a D101-System (the non-ogl d100 that I use for Skyraiders of the Floating Realms)

Crucible of the Dragons for now will be sailing off into the distance since there are no current plans to redo it.

All these adventures are available via the D101 Webstore.

  11. Well the 1st draft is now finished, all the tweaks and changes I wanted to do are in place.  Now going through the hole 220+ page first draft and doing a through self-edit :)

When I'm done I'll post up a full list of changes and highlights of the new edition.

In other news, there won't be a version of OpenQuest Basic for this edition. There will however be a Quickstart called the Lost Garrison :) This will be available before the Kickstarter.

  12. I'm currently doing a review of OpenQuest's three magic systems. In short Battle Magic has had some trimming down of it's spell list. Sorcery has had a few "utility" spells added so you don't have to use Battle Magic to create magic point stores or charms any more, as well as a tweaked version of the Combined Manipulation Effects table (mainly because OQ doesn't support skills over 100% any more). Divine Magic for the time being is left largely unchanged.

One thing that I've added to Battle Magic is another type of specialist magician type. Currently you either graduate to learning Sorcery or Divine Magic, to peruse a career as a wizard or priest respectively,  or become a Shaman.  But what if you want to carry on and become an advanced Battle Magic user?

Enter the Wise. This is the local hedge wizard/witch who lives on the edge of a small local community, usually rural where there isn't an established religious Temple or School of Sorcery.

I've posted more about this new type of Battle Magic Magician along with the current rough draft of the rules for it over at OpenQuest Rpg.

  13. Skyraiders is up first, I'm working on layout of Zero Edition now. And t answer @el_octogono 's early question up thread, it will be available in pdf/print+pre-order when its done :)

I'm very happy that the dichotomy of having a big book/old school d100 OQ and a little book (6x9) new school(ish) D100 system has worked itself out, and I can do both :)

  14. I've blogged about where I'm up to with OpenQuest 3 over at the new site for the game openquestrpg.com.

Its a somewhat rambling post, but basically I got stuck on the last draft, went back to OQ2, decided to do a tidied up version of that with bits of the last draft incorporated into it.  The post itself also breaks down chapter by chapter what the changes are from OQ2.

Looking to have it done by end of June, and out to Kickstarter by Aug/Sept to coincide with 1st Anniversary of its release
