  1. Could you post a link please? Went to download and search for both MERP and LOTR and didnt find it! 😞 But good to know, thanks! 🙂
  2. Please, can you tell us more about this BRP MERP Project please? Or at least tell me! 🙂
  3. Ha well, sorry you couldn't enjoy yourself. Personally I found it great! To be fair I kind of like dungeon dragon vibe, I just don't like levels and classes, ha ha...
  4. No idea about MERP, what is that? Magic is, in my personal opinion, not shared by many people so, there is that, completely out of whack in BRP! 😮 Mostly damage spell though, everything else is acceptable I reckon. I like what they did with Classic Fantasy (Mythras Edition), though Mythras damage dealing is not quite the same overall. That said I am planning to come up with my own magic system.. and I plan to have crazy damage spell just like in BRP (1D6 per level) and even a tad cheaper! But.. they will take a few round to cast! Will see how it works out...
  5. Atgxtg (or anyone really) I need some additional tips here... I was thinking to do my upcoming campaign with classic fantasy (mythras edition), but after polling my players, I will go with BRP + home made perks and magic system Anyway, what's the question, ha yes, I feel hesitant to change the BRP combat system, but I really like custom special effects. And ..... I could add some additional attack and defence option with perks... But also I would like to have more free option, not sure not handle that! Although I am already thinking to change the piercing and blunt weapon specials to armor piercing 4, and +D6 damage, respectively.
  6. Hey.. a variable per weapon malus seems like a good idea! 🙂
  7. Ha! Legendary forum user Atgxtg strikes again! Thanks for the reminder (I did read about that once, sometime, somewhere), that is good! 🙂
  8. Ha yes.. you're right! mmm... something to think about.. thanks! 🙂
  9. well.. it happened like 3 times in 6 years! "usually" last a day. But happened, it did!
  10. I am preparing a campaign, vaguely inspired by the Viking raid of England. The key word here is: vaguely, don't bother me with historic accuracy, it's not even in our world! Moving on, there will be this land where kinglets are at war for dominance against each other, and our players and their compatriots will land here to third party the conflict and make some easy picking. Now I am working on preparing that, putting a monastery here and there, an army here and there, a mystery or two, some towns and villages... And I am suddenly struck by a question. How long were those medieval wars? It looks to me, to my ignorant eyes, if 2 armies face off, there might be a bloody battle... and then the victor can more or less steam roll the countryside. (Mostly) Works in video game too (I mean there might be multiple army pack that couldn't help due to travel time and will pose later problem). This seems antithetical... Any tip how to handle that and drag the conflict out? i.e. campaign preparation tip for a long drawn-out conflict between 3 parties... (in fact, ahem, there might even be a fourth...)
  11. After going through the demon war, and the succession coup by the infamous black knight that damn bastard (he is a royal bastard, literally, out of wedlock), so many conflicts.. you character is finally a sword saint! with 150% in Sword skill! Finally, it's time to confront your nemesis! The earl of darkwater! That blackened forsaken soul! 150%, hey 3 attacks at 50%, 50%, 50%, as per rule for multi attack. Unfortunately, and unknowingly to you, the damn earl is also a sword saint with 150%, so he parries at 150%, 120%, 90% as per rule for multiple reactions. Now... that strike me as not ideal.... How do sword masters with 150% fight each other? Build-in rules don't seem quite right.... Remark, so far I am think to add Mythras rule here - one with skill over 100% can simply reduce his skill and the skill of his opponent by the value above 100%. But that's Mythras for you here. I am asking how BRP veteran handle that.
  12. I can access it right now! 😉 That is funny, because sometime, this very website (basicroleplaying.org) is offline too! ^^
  13. Some additional thoughts that came later... Nothing prevents you to use the skill list of BRP (which slightly different, there have more skill - they don't use XP - and the experience roll has a category bonus instead of always INT), but only use Normal/Crit (like Mythras), use Mythras weapons tables, Weapon combat rules and Mythras STR+SIZ bonus damage. And localized HP. In fact thinking of doing that for a scifi story. As for action points or do like BRP, 1 action and any number of reactions (with cumulative -30% for any reaction beyond the first).. I am slightly conflicted. On one hand Mythras prepare the rule for nicely showing off fast creatures. But then hardly no-one / and no-race routinely achieve 4+ action points.. not even the super hero from Destined.. So might do like BRP and have rare perks for additional attack and give them to boss monsters. As to whether to use Magic vs Willpower or POW vs POW save.. still agonizing about my favorite choice here. But skill vs skill might be the one that ultimately causer the less grief. Although every wizard would be weak with every spell but their favorite, mm.. tough one.
  14. me thought further.. maybe Astral Spell is fine, it's safe at least... but yeah there should be Gate spell, and maybe Reality Bubbly spell, an overpowered spell which allow to create a safe bubble of normal reality in the astral plane! 😄 But anyway, they will probably find and use an astral boat, a simple device taking care of the issues... Being able to navigate the astral sea! 🙂 And I guess astral denizen of relevance will automatically materialize a body when reaching prime material plane and/or bubble of reality, so there is that too!
  15. Working on a fantasy settings right now. Use Mythras-Classic Fantasy for the rule system - it is the closest system to what I wanted, just adding some minor lore specific requirement on spell casters. Anyway, I plan to have (arch)angel, (arch)demon, and other extra planar entities having a big role and impact and presence in the upcoming adventures. Which begs the question, how do the players travel over there? I guess other plane of existence was not really that important and a lot is left to the imagination... Hence my brainstorming here! First there is a large soup of planes I have little interest in (all the inner planes: elemental planes, positive, negative), might just... ignore them (they be in "scholarly book" untouched, why bother change them either way, but no relevance) Then there is the ethereal plane... only seem to be there for ghosts and such. With no spell to get there. feels cool but also redundant and only there to confuse thing further, kind of want to scrap it, spirit simply have an immaterial state that is on off? How about that? Finally the interesting bit, Astral Planes, Outer Planes. For the look factor I imagine the astral sea being like deep space, only with no spacetime... ahem, cough, cough,... only thoughts and mana, but in which realms/outer planes floats like a fractured island in space. One need spell to get there and survive (somewhat physically? in this plane of thought an magical energy? without a concept of space or time... I like to have a boat with a bubble of real space "floating around") then one can "move" (remember, no spacetime, hence the quotes) about and find outer plane / island, which are very much like discworld+a tardis. Now what kind of spell would I need for that? Probably all rank 5 I imagine.. but Astral Spell ain't it...
  16. oh damn, you right... too used to general HP from BRP, right!!
  17. true, true.. However, it's mostly because, come to think of it, there isn't that many number to tweak in the convincing. game. Whereas for fighting... every INT+DEX point is worth 1 initiative point advantage every round of combat. every few points of STR+SIZ is worth some higher damage bonus every round of combat, every SIZ+CON point is worth higher HP. But anyway, trying to apply extended conflict where CHA is a sort of HP pool is the way to fight that. But I don't like extended conflict that often. Maybe for court case, and climbing a mountain? But anyway, there is a way! 🙂
  18. In module SQ1, troubles in Nevermind they announced (last page / back cover), coming in 2020, ... (checking) The Unearthed Companion. Ok, different one, sorry. Still waiting on that other one though! ^^
  19. Quite cute looking! 🙂
  20. I would highly recommend the (Mythras variant) of Classic Fantasy. They promised us a "Classic Fantasy Imperative" for 2020, that should be a complete rulebook on its own... Sadly it's still not there (though it's "in production" we are told) so , right now, you also need Mythras to use Classic Fantasy. There is also a BRP variant of Classic Fantasy, but it's not as good. Though it has more spells 🙂 It even have the old class classes! 😮 🙂 Anathema to BRP style systems? Not really you realize once you read it....
  21. Cool.. I only look at a few power (Blast, TP, Enhanced Body) and they seemed to not really scale with any characteristic or scaled with POW (which is the usual)... But now that you mention, I could in fact all influencing characteristic by searching CHA/DEX/INT/Whatever... Obviously I haven't played any destined yet.. (Nor am I planning too, I want to use superpower for my angels & demons, which I plan to be a lot more prominent that I am used to) I spent like 2 years GM BRP/RD100/Mythras. But when the others GM it's D&D - or perhaps Fallout 2D20 soon? Anyway I quite like BRP resistance table. Although I also like Mythras save skills. What a conundrum! (but I just remember of conflict... it's a good compromise in some case, I reckon). For my NPC I never calculated their skill (particularly there is no rule for more experience character) so I usually just eyeball the skill% doesn't help... Also just gaining some skill% always felt underwhelming to me... (though I never really polled the players) Anyway next campaign gonna be CF. Seems that it takes care of many of my unending minor frustration....
  22. I guess CHA determine initial Skill value... but it's easy to forget afterwards.. although now that you reminded me, I can see it's something. And while it doesn't feel as impactful as, say, STR+SIZ doing bonus damage... well I guess there is less crunch dedicated to influence and also.. I just remembered since it's not explicitly mentioned in Mythras or CF, but some people came up with conflict... which, is perfect way to blend skill and characteristic, when needed... I am just reading CF again... refreshing my memory.. and oh, I see you mean they are CHA based skill. Mmmmf. To answer the question, nope I haven't played CF yet. I played Mythras, as GM only though. And it's easy to ignore characteristic when I just eyeball my NPC skill values arbitrarily, in fact I am not sure how the player feels about the impact of the characteristic, never asked them. It's only relevant for the next characters they will roll, as I plan to roll base characteristics as normal, and then add 2~3 bonus D6 where they want. And I feel like I would put all in INT/DEX/STR/CON if it were me... Also haven't played BRP/RD100/Mythras in a while since we took turn at GMing... Juts preparing a campaign to GM next. And I am definitely enticed by CF.
  23. I bought the pdf. System looks awesome. However, minor nitpicks, the characteristic associated with each power... doesn't seem to do anything? Feels almost like something is missing. Also, as usual, CHA feels underwhelming.
  24. CHA 13 is all you need it seems, give you the +1XP (when in town), what other benefit is there for high CHA? (I know, 18CHA instead of 13 gives a +5% headstart on CHA derived skill.. but this is a rather punny improvement, I reckon...) (ok it is used with Animism or something, but planning to use Classic Fantasy, CHA doesn't help in magic over there) Another question which nag my mind, I know save are often skill vs skill, like Magic Skill vs Willpower. Is there anytime one could or would transform that into a characteristic contest like in BRP (where equal value have 50% of success, and increase/decrease by 5% for each point of difference) (related to CHA, sometimes I might want to role CHA vs INT contest or the like of it, maybe augmented with Insight, ie. +Insight%/5 chance of success, or passion?) Are shield damaged when parrying? They seem to behave like cover with unlimited HP as far as I see it... In Classic Fantasy, if you are a fighter, each rank you can buy some perks for XP. It is worded as if you could only buy 1. I find Fighter class, while still good, a little underwhelming compared to say, Wizard with their tons of spells. Would it really hurt anyone to let Fighter by all the available perks? After all, for example, 2 weapon mastery don't do more damage than 1 weapon mastery, but feels way cooler. Beside it's another XP sink.
