Thanks for the feedback! Since the post is targeted to people in your same situation, your opinion is very valuable. I hope it is not too much information. 🤓

Not at all, I was able to make an informed decision thanks to it.

Nicely played, young sir!  Now, that is how the review business is done

Why thank you, I have been taking business courses in my duel enrollment studies, plus I really will have no excess till my next acting job. Unless I try something different, but I like the way things are currently playing out with both my channel and my writing prospects.

Aside from being among the key structural supports that kept RQ alive?  And some neat licenced titles under their belt?  And a remarkably robust and generous third party license?  Enh, maybe not so much.

Third party licence sounds cool, but another fantasy game is not my ideal right now, which is why I've been asking what unique things Mythras brings to the table. And while I have been answered, I will likely tusy stick to the quickstart for now (unless of course the publishers would like to talk💀

    All kinds of reasons... ;)

    • Streamlined and highly consistent set of game mechanics that are designed to handle everything from gritty historical fantasy, through to horror, SF, and superheroes (and with supplements/scenarios that do just that).
    • An innovative, engaging combat system that creates a plethora of intriguing tactical situations that go far beyond the 'I hit/You parry' paradigm, and doesn't rely on whittling the opposition to death to win a fight.
    • All kinds of Passions and social mechanics to support character development and conflicts of all kinds.
    • Five fully developed magic systems, from simple cantrips through to god-invoking miracles, and powerful sorcery.
    • Complete in a single book...
    • ...yet supported by more than 30 high quality scenarios, setting books and campaign supplements.
    • A free quickstart version, Mythras Imperative, can be downloaded from the files section here at BRPC.

There are also plenty of video discussions of the Mythras rules, along with game streams, via Inwils YouTube channel, and monthly 'Mythras Matters' podcast. I'll also be GMing for this cast of characters very soon, with the video being hosted on Inwils' channel.

Oh, and there's a 'Where I read...' Mythras thread currently developing at RPG.net.

Plus, the team behind it are really, really awesome...

Thank you very much for the insightful information, I might get to it in the future, but currently do not have the funds to get anything but the quickstart.

What makes the team behind it really awesome?

You should check out Mythras some time...

My current next systems are Runequest and Vampire the Masquarade, but perhaps I will be able to turn my gaze to Mythras in the future. What makes it unique compared to some of the other systems I've used like CoC and D&D?

(also if the creators of Mythras wanted me to review their product they could always dm me to pitch their game so I can make an informed decision on purchasing and reviewing it.)

@Mike M FYI, the description for Secrets of Tibet still states 6th Edition Call of Cthulhu. Also, six out of the eleven products on the Classic Cthulhu Scenarios fail to state an edition at all which may confuse customers. I would make sure that all product descriptions explicitly state the edition of Call of Cthulhu for which it is intended.

That would make sense, although it is not too difficult to switch a scenario to work with a previous or later edition.

Haha, it's true, even to my ears your singing is, ahem... has room for improvement...

But I got a felling you gotta improve... I have foreseen it! 😮 :P

Well then, hopefully in the future you shall have the pleasure of quoting the Emperor and saying, "Everything is proceeding exactly as I have foreseen."

Well, put the wraps on most of “None More Black” last night. There may be some follow-ups, as they had just finished dealing with most of the problem at the slaughterhouse. We had one Investigator lose it at the sight of some certain faceless creatures and run off screaming. The Federal Agent and the Photographer (veteran of the Great War) Investigators both got really effective, and lucky - the Agent managed three impales in a row with his handgun, and I’m sure the party has a false sense of security re: use of firearms in dealing with Mythos creatures. Heh.

My idea of an Arkham based campaign may be shot by my own improvising. The Biologist had analyzed a sample of The Black under a microscope, and determined it to be unknown and an unknowable weird combination of some kind of skin cells and blood cells. At the Artist’s studio, he sketches a image of the cell structure ... which after some poking, commenting and crazy skills rolls, Dr. Jones feels it resembles some ruins in Tibet he’d been reading about, if one considers it a top-down sketch devoid of context and geographical markers. The Artist, with a minor field of Asian studies (whose Player is the same) then wants to get specific about which ruins. The group engages in a series of hypotheses about ancient Tibet, Asian cultures, and prehistoric unknowns.

So, I did meta it a bit - they are great players - that the Tibet connection has isn’t front and center needed for this investigation. However, connections and follow-up .. well, that’s to be seen.

And so, Secrets of Tibet, which was ding-and-dent purchase a few years ago for my collector’s sense, is now suddenly getting read and likely to see use. I’ve already found some nice connections for both “None More Black” as well as various Deep One ideas (since several of the Investigators are interested their, given their survival of “Lightless Beacon”).

    Needless to say, fun times!!

Sounds like you and your players are having a great game!

Hi everyone. Currently, running Masks and one of my players would like to go really deep into occult and mythos things at the end of the London chapter and he asked me about interesting favor. Is it possible, somehow, to cover his body with tattoos (occult or mythos) and get magical protection? Is there any guide about it? I'm trying to stick to the rules to keep things balanced and it's not a problem to home-rule this feature but if there exists any solution I would be glad to use it. Could you please guide me where I can look for the info?

P.S. of course, there are some artifacts and spells, but he wants tattoos on top of it. I just don't want to give him it for free )

As far as I know, there are no rules for this, but it's a really cool idea!

Personally, I would make it so that he has the tattoos carved into his body all over (1d4 damage, plus any disadvantage to Interpersonal skills the keeper desires as the character now could be considered deformed). Next, I would say he now has 1d4 points of armor (so each time they get hit, roll 1d4 to see how much damage is reflected), however, the pain nd suffering is not blocked completely, but instead is channeled to the mind. For each 2 pints of damage reflected they take 1 pint of sanity damage (round up).

I might actually use this idea in my games in the future, very creative. This is just how I would go about it, you could always homebrew however best works for your party. You could also increase the damage reflection indefinitely as the damage is really still taken as SAN damage.

So what are our intrepid explorers on the seas of imagination up to this fine day? What kind of mischief ferments in the realms of Imagination? What indeed, you might well ask! What indeed!

Are we to hear a new episode in the near future? What indeed!

No, no, no, you misunderstand me... I totally agree! And, I, um...  I am the champion of not preparing! :P
It's just that, out of context, it's so so unexpected and surprising as to be hilarious! ;) But it's true! 😮 :D

    Ohh, gotcha:)

And yes I too am not the best at preparation, heheh...

Best advice: Do not create the full adventure! :)

That is essential to the process. Do not create the full plot-line (that would be railroading), but instead allow the plot to come to fruition organically.
