allenowen
The "Learning Spirit Magic" thread has gotten me thinking... Does anyone change the name of the spells? They do seem rather generic, namewise. Like Bladesharp could be called "Humakt's wetstone" or something. It's still "Bladesharp" but called a different name. Just a thought.
soltakss
Yes, we play that our PCs use various names for the spell. However, in practice, we use the standard names. The reason being, "I cast Humakt's Whetstone 4", "Ok, what is that, Bladesharp? So, you get +20% attack and +4 damage". "I cast White Woman's Lap, how does that work again?" "White Woman's Lap? What is that? Oh, yeah, Comfort Song, it basically stops you feeling pain but remaining conscious". 1 Quote Simon Phipp - Caldmore Chameleon - Wallowing in my elitism since 1982. allenowen
Well, yeah it would get messy otherwise.
metcalph
Not to mention the cases in which the names have unintentional interpretations. "I cast Hide like a Rhino and then Snatch Breath"
allenowen
I can see a player, in character, saying something like "O Spirits of the Air, grant me Strength!" then OOC, "I'm casting the spirit spell Strength"...
allenowen
Or "Make my sword arm aim true and my blade sharp!" while casting Bladesharp.
Joerg
I have a hard time imagining the laconic Humakti effervescing flowery incantations when gearing up for lethal combat. 1 Quote Telling how it is excessive verbis

It's a spell for hiding in a herd of rhinos.
