Arcadiagt5
Does anyone have any guidance on whether the Three Winds Festival is, or should be, an annual event? If so, roughly how many hippogriffs would be expected to be of a bondable age each year? Was the re-establishing of the event in The Pegasus Plateau a special case when it had so many young hippogriffs available?
Rodney Dangerduck
Yes, it celebrates the Ernaldan High Holy Week, so it should be an annual event. There should be at least as many bondable Hippogriffs as you have PCs.

I'd say that the Festival should be an annual event. The presence of hippogriffs, IIRC, is a recent occurrence, though, and whether they come to bear young there may vary from year-to-year.
Joerg
To be honest, as a GM I am dubious about every adventurer riding a hippogriff after a couple of years. Probably with one Balastor's Axe and one Windsword in the party, too... Buckbeak should be the exception, not the expectation. Spoiler And it is in the hands of the players (or a nasty GM having an NPC seeker misbehave) to break the compact which allows the ritual. One thing that hasn't been addressed in either Pegasus Plateau or the Bestiary is the upkeep of a hippogriff. While some hunting may be possible, in exchange for forming a bond with a human, the hippogriff will expect access to herd beasts. Mounted aerial combat and chase scenes probably deserve as much attention as riding and driving a chariot, not just for hippogriffs, but also for Sun Hawks, Sky Bulls, Wyverns, Pteranodons and the occasional friendly wyrm. 2 Quote Telling how it is excessive verbis

Do you suggest we should get an aerial combat system for RQ?
Joerg
Aerial, naval, underwater, yes. Things like ramming, vertical element, bombing (missile combat from above). Stuff for a GM book, or possibly to be included in a scenario with a heavy element of one of these environments to be lifted into a scenario-less GM resource later. RQ still is this crunchy system, and while much of this is just adapting or re-confirming existing rules, new GMs may not have those resources. 1 Quote Telling how it is excessive verbis
