is it an adventure? A collection of of adventure ideas? A collection of NPCs?

How I interpret it:

  • "pilot script" = campaign or scenario outline
  • "proposed series of films/episodes" = adventure hooks or scenario starters
  • "cast of dozens" + "enigmatic lists of statistics" = NPC encounter writeups

All set in the context of an envisioned "modern" document looking at events in Glorantha much as Andrew Logan Montgomery included "modern" works in the Six Seasons in Sartar series.

What is it? It's a joy, that's what it is.

An Unofficial Buyer's Guide to RuneQuest and Glorantha lists everything currently available for the game and setting, across 60 pages. "Lavishly illustrated throughout, festooned with hyperlinks" - Nick Brooke. The Voralans presents Glorantha's magical mushroom humanoids, the black elves. "A wonderful blend of researched detail and Glorantha crazy" - Austin Conrad. The Children of Hykim documents Glorantha's shape-changing totemic animal people, the Hsunchen. "Stunning depictions of shamanistic totem-animal people, really evocative" - Philip H.

Index updated: The unproduced script of a 1989 adaptation by hack author Preston Shrader of the rediscovered Greek tragedy Boldhome (which bears a remarkable similarity to a RuneQuest scenario: go figure!). Name-dropping asides throughout the supporting material give new insights into the history of 20th century dramas (theatrical, filmed and televisual) inspired by Gloranthan sources found in the Vatican Apostolic Archive and elsewhere. The original stage play concerns a reunion and doomed romance between two members of the Orlanthi resistance; this adaptation is a police procedural focusing instead on the bungling Boldhome City Guard. The critics say: "Makes Six Seasons in Sartar look like an epic." (70 pages for $5.95)

And I’ll hide this bit behind a spoiler warning, so please don’t read it unless you’re already thinking of buying the scenario as it’ll take away some of the joy of discovery through play:

Spoiler

It’s basically a one-shot Carry on Casablanca set in Boldhome. Players are the inept / corrupt local Vichy police while the plot of Casablanca plays out under their noses. It’s hilarious, and you shouldn’t miss it.

And the author’s schtick of writing from a parallel universe where fifties sword-and-sandal movies had Gloranthan themes etc. is as well executed as Drew Montgomery’s duelling academics. Even if you don’t think you’ll ever play this, you should buy and read it: it’s dead good.

Cheers, Nick
