Marcus Bone
Hi All...As discussed in a previous post of mine, I've been working on a fan setting for the Magic World system - In the Quiet Lands. It is a fantasy post-apoc setting with a Anglo-Saxon Dark Ages* feel. Some of you might know that I've long been a fan of the system behind Magic World (look at my signature if you don't), and I've tinkered and rule scenarios in this setting over a number of years. However, until now, I've not attempted to put any of it onto paper.Hope you find it interesting, and I hope to update the draft attached as I get time (I already have more info on the main communities mapped out, an adventure and some additional character gen rules - to better reflect the militant nature of the setting).Again I hope you take time to to look it over (all 4 pages!)... and Oh, of course, comments and feedback are welcomed!Marcus * - yeah, yeah, I know there is no such thing as the 'Dark Ages', we should call it by its proper name - the Early Middle Ages In The Quiet Lands.pdf 9 Quote Stormbringer! - Exploring the worlds of the Eternal Champion at http://www.stormbringerrpg.com Unbound Publishing - Bringing back the fear - http://www.unboundbook.org DCtRPG.info - Supporting Dark Conspiracy across the decades - http://www.darkconspiracytherpg.com
NickMiddleton
Marcus, just read the PDF.WOW. I really like this. It has atmosphere, loads of potential and I really like that whilst blending some currently popular themes (undead, post-apocalyptic; moral complexity etc) it ALSO has a tight focus geographically; the premise allows PLAYERS to discover the world with the characters and the premise is flexible enough to allow me as a GM to shape the campaign in various directions.. Can't wait to see more!Cheers,Nick
Guest Vile Traveller
Very nice! I like the simplicity of the setting which will let players get into it right away without feeling they're missing all kinds of vital details - those can develop later through play. For some reason I also get an "Eastern Front in Winter" vibe ...Oh, there's a typo on p.4 under THEMES - you've got "Quite" instead of "Quiet". As I said, I do have more planned, but at the speed I work out, I wouldn't hold my breath There were some definite design decisions made in the setting, especially the cultural style and the post apoc theme. Rich Tom
I’ve just read the text. It’s very good. It’s clear and concise. You mentioned that it was an Anglo-Saxon dark ages setting. Saxon history is very rich and detailed, perhaps less mystical than Viking legend but no doubt as blood thirsty. It amazes me that so many books and films have Vikings as protagonists yet Saxon characters seem, (at least to me) relatively few, and often the villain. RPG also seems to follow this Nordic indulgence, with many major games having a Viking supplement , yet apart from Pendragon, where even there, they are relegated to, (again) the invaders from the lowlands or , Maelstrom Doomsday where the setting is even so, actually post Saxon, there are few if any good other titles. Now this is another land and not the Earth but will we get notes on equipment, social structure, combat tactics, thanes, Saxon runes etc… I think what you’ve done is great. If you’re going to expand the setting, these are just a few things that would interest me. I’m not talking about an encyclopedia here, just a couple of pages of simple notes to offer us some clarity.Oh and thank you.
Marcus Bone
So not to necro this threat too much (yet), but should I claim copyright on this KS from Green Ronin https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/504269797/the-lost-citadel-post-apocalyptic-fantasy-roleplay I do hope to produce a bit of an update for my (In the Quiet Lands) setting shortly BTW...
