  1. I knew what you meant. I just meant I don't know enough about how the factions work to decide if I want to ignore them or not. Seems to me that 22 different factions is a bit much. (On top of secret societies for antagonists as well) If I were to "group" them into factions, using their dominant Ka seems more logical... And with only 5 a lot more manageable. The package came in today so in a day or so I'll be better informed. FYI I'm really digging the idea of #1
  2. I thought this was pretty cool. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/pluto-cthulhu_55a5dda9e4b0896514cfbc06
  3. Thanks! I really like #1. Don't have an opinion on the Tarot as I haven't read the book, so I'm not sure exactly how it works. Although, I may end up ditching a fair amount. Seems like many of the reviews sang the tune of "great concept - muddled down by complication".
  4. So I bought the Nephilim bundle from Chaosium. (the sale is still going on) I'm thinking about running something akin to the Prophecy series using it. Would anyone care to share their thoughts or anecdotes about the game? I have a vague idea of what the game is like from reading reviews, other than that I'm Jon Snow.
  5. What a great problem to have! Edit: How ironic that you can't play Magic World at GenCon! Lol
  6. No! I think it's great! And my apologies about the delay, I received a windfall of websites to build in the past three days so I've been über busy. I should be able to get those maps to you tomorrow, however. Great work!
  7. When I first bought the BGB, I thought "Great! This book covers the entire system! Now all I need are settings books and supplements." I thought a settings book would look something like this: 1. Shows you which optional rules are best in play. (Although feel free to do what you like.) 2. Expanded professions relative to the specific genre. 3. Expanded powers relative to the specific genre. 4. Expanded beastiary relative to the specific genre. 5. A setting including maps, play aids, NPC's, etc. In fact, I still think that structure is great for a settings book and would like to see a settings book like that come to fruition. However, when Magic World came out it was nothing like what I was expecting. It was a complete stand-alone product that didn't need the BGB at all. Honestly, my first thought was... "There Chaosium goes again.... complete lack of direction." It seemed as if Chaosium was going to ignore the great core foundation of BRP that was the "Big Gold Book". Then I read an interview Ben gave about Magic World. The reason why MW included the system and wasn't just a settings book is that Chaosium needed an entry point for new players. And you know what? He was right. Chaosium did need an entry point for new players. An entry point that could be one book, not two, three, or four books; and also an entry point based on the most common and probably most easiest genre for new players to start with. (Fantasy) That is why MW is what it is, and despite my initial reaction, I love it. It was the best direction for Chaosium to go. So all this was a really long way of saying: I agree that the best strategy would be a case-by-case basis. How much weight would the product carry as a stand-alone product? Could it succeed as its own product line? Would it serve best as a supplemet? Fiscally, which way would sell best? Right now, I have a lot of confidence in the new regime at Chaosium, and trust that they will make the best decision. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do! P.S. I still want a revised World of Wonders box set.
  8. Welcome to basicroleplaying.org Dave! Glad you're interested in this project. the whole point is for this to be fun and creative, so no worries
  9. Really like the input Ben! I suppose it comes down to liking both gritty and heroic and creating a smooth transition from one to the other?
  10. They're not. That's why I didn't feel like it was too rapid of an increase.
  11. I haven't played this rule yet, but let me know what you think. In MW there are two ways to calculate HP; the standard average of CON and SIZ, or for a more heroic feel the sum of CON and SIZ. Personally, I like new adventurers to start out with fewer HP. I think it makes them a little more cautious. However, I like seasoned adventurers to have more HP and thus a little more daring. So the house rule is: If you suffer a major wound (and live to tell about it) then once you heal, you get a 1d4 increase to HP... up to the max of CON + SIZ. *This assumes you started with the average HP. I kind of like how it has the "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" mindset. You can still increase HP by the normal ways of increasing CON or SIZ. I know there are some effects on the major wounds table that can lower HP by way of lowering CON, then this rule would in a way negate that effect. But what do you think?
  12. I've looked into Gwenthia and it's very interesting; however, I wouldn't want to game in that world because I feel it's too unique. Which is partly my problem with Glorantha. I guess when it comes to "worlds" I prefer something more generic and simpler. I love settings like the Nentir Vale and The Southern Reaches because they give you a great jumping off point to get started while leaving plenty of room to hash out your own spin on things.
  13. This is interesting... a google search lead me back to this site. http://basicroleplaying.org/forum/5-sharedworld/ I had no idea. (I guess I just dismissed the idea of looking in the "inactive" forums for obvious reasons.)
  14. I always thought that monographs should be handled similar to Apple's App Store. Anyone can submit a monograph to the site and set the price for it. It goes through a quick-glance review just to make sure it is what it claims to be. If approved, it sells on the store with a 70/30% split between the author and Chaosium. There is already a rating system built in so users can regulate the market. Author is in charge of the product including layout and design. There could be even be an "SDK" full of clip art and royalty free artwork and fonts to use for the design of things. Edit: Author sets the price for pdf. Chaosium would have to set the price for POD with author getting 30% after printing costs.
  15. I haven't fleshed that much out. (Didn't want to spend too much time on this if there was a lack of interest.) To keep the scale small enough that adventurers can reasonably travel from one kingdom to another, let's say that this isn't the entire planet, but rather a continental region. Climate is fairly moderate with pleasant springs and autumns, bitter winters and subtropic summers.
  16. For clarification (if enough people are interested) once you select your country, I'll send you maps (with and without hex grids) of your country so you can start populating them. *This will require a printer and scanner or some sort of paint program.
  17. I thought this might be fun if there are enough people that are interested. I'm kind of taking the idea of Questworld and applying it to the gamers instead of publishers. Here is a rudimentary map of a blank world: The idea is that a person can "adopt a country" and populate it full of towns, cities, villages, mountains, rivers, NPC's, adventures and all kinds of other good stuff; then all the creativity and content would be uploaded and available to share and use as a generic fantasy world in which to game. Is it a lot of work? Maybe.(Depends on you) Could it be a lot of fun? Hell yeah! We might even have a little mini-game involving the countries using Runequest Empires. Who knows? So if you are interested then the first step is to select your country. (First come, first serve) *If you want the fun of randomization, roll 1d4 (1-2=low, 3-4=high) If you rolled low, then roll 1d12. (Countries 1-12) If you rolled high, then roll 1d12+12 (13-24) The greyed out countries are not available to start because 1) the isolation could be an unfair advantage or disadvantage, and 2) I thought it would be more fun to develop those countries either collaboratively through story or by empire takeover. So who's interested? P.S. I rolled randomly and claim country 24.

  19. I don't feel that is ungrateful at all. Honestly I'm proud these maps are useful to you enough that you have a request lol. Now I'm wondering why I didn't put dots in the first place. I'll work on them tonight. Edit: A new photo with dots to signify locations has been added.
  20. Modern day title for beastiary: Monsterpedia =\
  21. I've had a similar issue with gmail before. Try going to the "All Mail" folder and search there.
  22. Well if they bring Cities back, then I want QuestWorld while they're at it!
