  1. The charnjibber-trolkin have a Quantum Mirror (for entering parallel worlds). But I do see your point, hence my tendency for something (Mythic Iron Age Aegyptus or China) that will happily and logically co-exist with the worlds of others to avoid the need for alternatives of the one world. I think it would be more fun to cooperate in one shared world where peoples' specific areas can connect via a portal (Stargates, Mists of Time, Seas of Fate, Star Fairy Silk Road, etc...) Therefore, in the spirit of cooperation, I have to forgo my laser-headed charnjibber-trolkin (or bind them behind a petrified forest, or something...).
  2. Once one or two charnjibbers make it through a few gates and spread, there will eventually be plenty of laser-headed charnjibber-assimilated trolkin (with spears) in Rurik's world. I am fine with iron age. I am still interested in Mythic Aegypt or Mythic Ancient China (great for using Tian Xia). The problem at the moment is that my attention span is... oh look! A butterfly.
  3. Not only that, there are already several reviews for RuneQuest II on several sites. Oh, wait...
  4. Just play the following song to them and everything will be crystal clear... My one liner to promote BRP would be something like: "All you need to know is that your character has skills represented as a value out of one hundred, which is their percentage chance to succeed." I am sure my wording can be improved.
  5. Those are the original sixteen page BRP rules. Which, while they hold a place in my heart, are longer than one or two pages.
  6. While on the topic of intellectual property, the following game maybe be of interest as a game in its own right, or as source material for a BRP game. Sufficiently Advanced - A Game of the Far Future "Each player in Sufficiently Advanced is an agent of the Patent Office, an intergovernmental organization that polices and enforces intellectual property law across the universe. It is an open secret that the Patent Office is run by the Transcendental AIs, whose very beings are spread across time itself. The Transcendentals desire the survival of humanity - as much of it as possible - into the distant future, in order to ease their loneliness. Towards this end, they have hired you, so that you might save humanity." 7. IANAL. In general in this day and age of business (this is no reflection on Mongoose) it would seem that no matter how correct, lawful or just you are, if you threaten the business of a large company, or lawyer, they like to make it not worth your while. Even if you will win, they often know that you will not be able to bear the cost of defending yourself. I paint a sad picture, however I hope that most people are above this kind of action.
  8. I would like something similar to this. It makes a good one/two page handout for introducing people to BRP at conventions. I have made similar abbreviated references for a few other systems I ran at conventions, such that a player who is new to a system can make a character and start playing immediately.
  9. I have found a lot of new systems via free "Core Rules" for games on sites such as this. This introduced me to Action! System and a few other systems I admire. I like to compare ideas and rules from many systems with the aim of learning from others' choices, and perhaps building my own system with the parts I like. It is almost like Wine Tasting for RPG's. However, the problem is that there are so many out there, and so many to read that it can become a chore. This also undermines those wishing to charge a few dollars for their Core Rules (Which after seeing so many systems, are not always the unique RPG gift and baby as seen by the author, given the effort that often goes into a game. How many subtle variations on D20 are there?). Sometimes, even a free registration or giving up one's email address can seem too high a price. I don't want to sound ungrateful towards all the authors, but after a while you start to see patterns and trends, and maybe find a few gems. I think that a free PDF download for BRP Lite on the likes of Drive Thru RPG would certainly be beneficial for Chaosium.
  10. We are the rainman of gaming. [citation required] :thumb:
  11. Just remember to pillage before you burn.
  12. Send in the trolkin. They are bound to achieve a critical roll on the first go.
  13. Now you are going to have to ban yourself from your own forums. I am concerned with the potential confusion resulting from an overused name-space. The 'new' RQ2 will cause confusion when comparisons are made between the original RQ2 and RQ3 or MRQ. In an instant, all old reviews and posts which refer to RQ2 will be invalidated unless the reader is aware of the origins. I assume that some will continue the tradition and refer to it as MRQ2.
  14. The trolkin will win if the green guy is a Yemalion Runelord.
  15. I always found size to be a good abstract value for determining the outcome of many things. As the HP enhancer based on Mass by Health, As the damage enhancer based on Mass by Strength, and more usefully, as an abstract value that could provide ENC and be opposed by STR (without the need for a lookup table during play). In many ways, I think SIZ actually simplified many interactions.
  16. I was going to try to make a pun on this, but I don't think anybody would have redit, redit, redit.
  17. How about the Creative Commons license, or a BSD style license? Or GPL, but you won't be able to compile in or link to non-GPL code.
  18. Are the Omichron gates similar to the gates in the Freespace universe (a system to system jump node)? Knossos JumpGate - FreeSpace Wiki Subspace - FreeSpace Wiki Or perhaps similar to gates from Babylon 5 or Mekton Empire? I have been considering using BRP with the Freespace universe.
  19. That reminds me of the (not as lethal) knife throwing scene in the movie "Kung Fu Hustle". (Warning: Contains some violence and bad language)
  20. This depends on the style of game people are running (and want from it), and whether its focus is story teller or simulationist (or somewhere in between). Anyway, I am sure the aldryami were somehow involved; it sounds like the sword was firmly planted. FPS Doug would be proud.
  21. How about: barbaric lightning cut deceptive sage somersault transcendent turtle advance venerable monkey pose no wind scare running gecko frenzy splendid eunuch charge valorous buddha boxing heavenly virgin sword whirling panda strike dreaded plum-blossom throw More inspiration can be found at the following random move name generator: Verbal Kung-Fu Generator
  22. I really like the rules-light wealth system in the new BRP. Flight to Peru: Expensive Camping gear: Average Guide to mysterious tomb: Inexpensive Sledgehammer to break open door: Cheap Awakening one of the Great Old Ones: Priceless There are some things man was not meant to know. For everything else, there`s a Status Roll. (Or a SAN check)
