  1. You Fantasy boys .... it depends on the setting as well In a modern setting you could use Technical (Programming) or Technical (Computer Use). Though Programming would be more a 'digital signature', while Computer Use would be using something like Photoshop to create a printable document. And the character would get 1/5 bonus of his Art (Painting) or Art (Photography) skill to that.
  2. Be aware animals do not always use their full strength when hitting or ripping apart something. Main purpose for them is to kill the prey while conserving as much energy as possible - otherwise they would burn more energy than they would get back from eating the prey. Unless you really make an animal angry, block it's escape ways and such, they will use only enough force to drive you away. So in a RPG, you could rule the Damage Bonus is the maximum damage the animal could do from it's strength - and it can vary that strength to inflict lesser damage.
  3. I bought the PDF a week ago and finally hat time to read it. Though I am not very interested in Fantasy, this setting and book had something that I really like. The story is interesting and the bestiary has creatures that sparked some ideas. Not many books did that during the last years I must say. End of story: I have to play it. Until my other players finish our "Rubble and Ruin" campaign, I will play CoFE solo by the help of Mythic. Thanks Sarah! I hope there will be more stuff following
  4. Really, I do not use Attributes very often during a game ... It's all fluff to me and rarely makes a difference. Even player characters do not use their ststs a lot. skills are the thing that more or less rule the game.
  5. That's ok, only thing is BRP does not use Attribute values that often as other RPGs do. It is not a problem, but I do not see the issue of arguing over the difference of 5d6 and 5d6+6 in Strength - as it will not likely make a difference in a combat situation. The character is toast anyway ...
  6. The thing really bothers me is all these Attributes are not worth a dime during play. They are either so high that a player character stands no chance (which one could say is realistic) or the attributes do not influence combat that much. BRP is more about the skills; and if you are unlucky enough to get hit by a huge beast you are toast anyway (for sure if you use the Hit Locations option). All in all I found BRP an extremely deadly system where the action should focus on other things than combat. Unfortunately combat plays a big part for many players, so there sometimes is a bit of frustration. But this is a topic for a different thread.
  7. Nice table, really thanks for that!
  8. Looks good, very slim. But the download link does not seem to work ..
  9. it is indeed, that's one of the strengths. And for my own settings it is not a problem as I do refer to one rule set as the 'way to go' while pointing out all the necessary options. Using Monographs is sometimes a bit of a hassle, but since they are PDFs it is simple enough to create own settings via cut&paste easily enough. For home use, of course.
  10. I do not think BRP is an old and really flawed system. But I do think it is showing a bit of its age in so far as it has not been streamlined as a whole. For example Movement. RQ, CoC and BRP all have different Movement ranges for the same species. Same is true for Attributes. I like the fact the Laundry and most of the monographs use the newer Movement rates and stats from the BGB. That keeps it in line. What I do not like is all the different rules and adaptations and new rules and different rules for different settings. I would prefere a basic set of rules which all settings are using and where the settin adds detail, instead of throwing away some rules and replace them with new ones. Same is true for the Skills. A basic list with settings adding details. Not a detailed list that is changed by every Monograph to suit the setting better. But anyway, I do not like Skills at all, as they limit the characters in play. I do prefere profession lists as they give the players more options and keep the character sheets clean and small. But that's just me. Currently I am working on a professions system that does work well with BRP. problem here is, it would make use of the Resistance Table a lot more for other task checks ...
  11. there's only the official and unofficial Errata in the WiKi ...
  12. Maybe I can satisfy both of you. Give it some time and some more sheets will follow. Fantasy is a bit harder to do, as the modern frames are not a good match for the genre. I guess pulp will be next then, followed by Fantasy ... Cheers!
  13. I found out using the GORE rules for clarifications from time to time helps very much. In fact they are very easy written and contain a lot of the BGB. Not too bad for a free product. For a pulp and easy system I still do prefer the Barbarians of Lemuria game system over the BRP. But that's a completely different story ...
  14. Excellent idea! And not too much a change of the BGB rules. Like it!
  15. LOL I am so glad I never came in real contact with this system. Except for it's computer games, that is. Might be it was not that popular in Germany when I was young(er), might be RQ and CoC always appealed more to me than AD&D. Life is good!
  16. It got me Rome and Chronicles of Furure Earth - both as PDF. And I did not plan to have either ... Or play them. It was just for the cause ...
  17. Yes, it's a beauty to play BRP. The best thing about all the "bugs" is, once you play the game they either do not come up or do not bother anyone. It is only when you look at the rules without playing them ... Sometimes they look strange or not right, but while playing, everything can be houseruled very fast.
  18. It's not always SIZ that matters. I find a scorpion as fearsome as a saltwater crocodile But yes, the question was about an elephant, so in that case Size matters ...
  19. I did the ordeal of using my Sony PRS500 for reading PDFs. it was horrible and slow. Reading it from top to bottom was ok, but changing and finding pages was no fun at all. I love my Sony, even if I use the iPad more, but the eInk Display is still the best for reading a book. But not a textbook.
  20. I vote for POW x5 . It's fast and does not introduce a new rule. It also would make PC use that Attribute more often. Maybe Power versus Appearance on the Resistance Table is a valid way as well - or the better solution. It will show the inner conflict of the character to overcome his fears.
  21. My iPad2 loves all RPG books so far. It's fast to scroll around, easy to magnify small fonts and fast to find pages. Most Apps also give the possibility to mark pages for faster reference. Apps I use: GoodReader for reading, iAnnotate for opening multiple PDF's at the same time (in tabs). When gaming and no PDF is needed, I like the Dicenomicon for dice rolling.
  22. unfortunately Preview sometimes does not show all content. Fractured Hopes is such a thing, Preview does not show the grey boxes around some Text parts - which is annoying.
  23. the round up table is also easier to read ...
  24. Hi folks, with my new mobile device I recognised a lot of pictures and maps will not be displayed within most Chaosium PDF files. A way to get them 'nice & running' again is here: 1) open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat (!) 2) export the file as PostScript 3) close the PDF file 4) open the PostScript file 5) export the file as PDF again (make sure you are not overwriting anything) The PDF will increase massively in size, but therefor all graphics, pictures and maps will be included. Yes, you need Adobe Acrobat Professional - or anything similar that can convert pdf2ps and reconvert ps2pdf. Hope it's helpful!
