  1. The KS is almost over. Those who want in, should back NOW.
  2. I was in a pirate game once where the bad-tempered captain had a parrot that kept shouting "X marks the spot!" and "keelhaul them!" at the most inconvenient moments. Much hilarity ensued. I think people will find monkeys and parrots an excellent addition to their pirate game.
  3. Congratulations! You *did* add a short paragraph on obnoxious monkeys and parrots and having them as pirate pets, right?
  4. The KS was unfortunately canceled, BUT... they did a relaunch that was immediately succesful! So check it out once again and help them reach some of the interesting stretch goals! Pirates & Dragons RPG by Cakebread & Walton — Kickstarter (relaunched) A new thread was started for the new KS: http://basicroleplaying.com/renaissance/pirates-dragons-rpg-kickstarter-relaunched-3541/
  5. The Kickstarter was launched yesterday. Join in on the pledging! Raiders of R’lyeh: Horror Adventure RPG and Mythos Sandbox! by Quentin Bauer — Kickstarter
  6. I would go even further: monkeys need to be available as PCs*! At least the pirate pet par excellence: the smart and devious capuchin monkey. Howler and spider monkeys could be NPC-only. But seriously, what good is a pirate game without monkeys? Also make sure to add the undead variant! And speaking of pirate pets, there should also be parrots. *As you can tell I'm a big fan of the Terra Primate RPG. EDIT: There ya go. I pledged to show you my support even before you added in the monkeys.
  7. So, are there monkeys? (Though seemingly insignificant, this mere fact could win me over, hehe.)
  8. I used to sneak out of my bed at night to watch the Poe adaptations on BBC downstairs while my parents were sleeping. Sheer magic. If you enjoy The Old Dark House also check out three vaguely Poe-inspired classics - Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932), The Black Cat (1934) and The Raven (1935) - for beautiful atmospheric photography and fun scenario ideas for Call of Cthulhu, though not particularly Lovecraftian.
  9. While the game sounds really great, I'd love to use it to build something slightly more PotC and Monkey Island-flavoured and a bit less high fantasy. How well would this work as a toolkit for your own Caribbean + fantasy elements? Is the included piraty stuff - weaponry, ships, equipment - more Caribbean or more Sinbad?
  10. Great news. I'm waiting for OpenQuest Basics myself, as I have no interest in OQ's default setting, but that will also benefit from quality proof reading. Newt, with regard to estimated release dates I'd suggest just adding 6-12 months to those in advance. Nobody is going to complain if a book releases earlier than "expected". I've actually been wondering why all publishers don't do this.
  11. City in the Sea isn't exactly the greatest of Lovecraftian movies, to say the least. The Haunted Palace, however, I count among my favourites. All of Corman's Poe adaptations feature Vincent Price, except for The Premature Burial (1962).
  12. I was planning to wait for it to become available on Book Depository but if that takes too long I may decide to add it to my next order from GamesLore, UK.
  13. Dan Davenport did a Q&A session on #rpgnet with the author: The Hardboiled GMshoe's Office: [Q&A] Troy Wilhelmson (Astounding Adventures!)
  14. From what I've seen of the artwork this is going to look spectacular! You may want to hold off for a little while on launching the Kickstarter, until dedicated consumers of Cthulhu product have financially recovered from backing Achtung! Cthulhu, CoC 7E and Cthulhu Wars!
  15. Isn't it time that The Company also gets mentioned on the front page of basicroleplaying.com? It's still missing from the list of OpenQuest material.
  16. Looks like the print version is now available from Cubicle 7: Laundry Files: Agent's Handbook + PDF Bundle - Cubicle 7 Entertainment Web Store
  17. They updated the same post. The title font in the cover illustration was apparently changed, as many suggested on the Yog-Sothoth forums. It does look better this way. I guess it's really coming out soon now! Chaosium.com: News - Cthulhu by Gaslight 3rd
  18. http://www.chaosium.com/article.php?story_id=488 Really looking forward to this as well!
  19. Apparently, the PDF is out! Here's hoping the print version will follow shortly...

  21. Well, according to Chaosium's site this is going to be available starting tomorrow...
  22. So, any details with regard to the rules you're supposed to use for the game? I like my BRP as light as possible (CoC is about as crunchy as it gets for me) so too much "crunch and clunk" might still turn me off this game, though the setting sounds excellent.
  23. I have yet to read the Laundry books and wanted to know if the RPG had anything interesting to offer besides the setting. Sounds like it would even be useful to streamline/structure the old Call of Cthulhu rules which, IMHO, have some fiddly and some inconsistent bits that the basic BRP book did not give me any solutions for. Using BRP I can only see CoC getting more complicated when I actually would like to simplify/streamline it a bit more. I am doubly interested in The Laundry RPG now!
