  1. Yes, true, but in this case, why does Polybius states that those 3 feet are needed to maneuver the shield and the sword. And the maniples were used even where the phalanx was organized and on flat terrain. This was a choice. But I nevertheless agree, it does not NECESSARILY means it was used as a cutting weapon. 2. As this is a group of chapter that compares the different merits of the phalanx and the maniple, and that the phalanx is clearly described as having a better push and a stronger organization, each legionnaire having to face 10 sarissa, and although that the roman organization proved better, I presume this is about the main battle. This is an educated guess, of course, furthered by the fact that the roman commanders deliberately choosed to oppose maniples to the phalanx led by Philippe. I can't imagine the roman tacticians choosing voluntarily an organization that has a clear disadvantage but allows something without using it. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  3. I don't have your problems, but as I don't have the original one, I can't compare and tell you the differences. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  4. The 1st ones I made up (20 years) ago were real cut and paste, but now any spreadsheet or word processing makes the work for us. Runequestement votre, Kloster

  6. The french revised by Oriflam, that was intended to bring the rules in line with SB. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  7. Have you ever had your shield rendered unusable. I had and this is another reason to have a parrying weapon available (once because a dark troll destroyed it concienciously with his maul, and several others a bit too unwieldy because of impaled weapons stuck in it. I was happy to have something to parry with). Runequestement votre, Kloster
  8. Hello Jason, Is the Mutation part coming form Hawkmoon V1, or from the revised edition? Runequestement votre, Kloster
  9. Hello Jason, On the combat part, are attack and parry subsumed in a single competence (ala SB) or are they separate competences (like RQ)? Runequestement votre, Kloster
  10. And I presume we will revert (almost) to RQ on that point with Fixed armor and Hit locations. This is purely a matter of personal preferences and I'm sure lot of people have very good reason to choose otherwise. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  11. Yes, some are scary. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  12. This is exactly what I meant when speaking of a higher DEX. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  13. Pulling back can be dangerous (1 free attack, IIRC). Runequestement votre, Kloster
  14. I like using this versus 2 handed weapons. And 2h axes are especially vulnerable because of the low AP (compared to swords). If you look on the figure I gave, you know why I prefer dagger or kukri. I prefer 1 ENC for 2 weapons than 2 for 1. Withy that, I'm almost sure to finish the fight armed. I prefer having my backup with me. Agreed for the shield nightmare. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  15. I pesonally have used disarm and have it used against me, but I agree this is rare. But what I have seen and used is: Targeting the weapon to destroy it. On axes and maces, this is a worthwile tactic. Versus swords, it is a bit longer, but it works also. And in RQIII, the broadsword and the scimitar (the most common 1 handed swords) are impaling weapons. I have already lost (and recovered later) several time my sword that way. I know it is not mandatory to use one's sword that way, but the impale bonus is often too tempting. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  16. Trying to interupt the healing with a disruption does not preclude hitting him in melee. It is a complement. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  17. It seems to me that on this one, we agree. For large healing spells, disruption is useless compared to a simple melee attack, that is more likely to land and to interupt the casting. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  18. You told to put the haling 2 at the end of the round, after you took damage. What I'm telling is that if you wait for the end of the MR, somebody that declares his action after you (=that has a higher DEX) cal land his attack right in the middle of your preparation and disrupt it. But if you put the healing 2 at the start of the MR, I agree with you, almost no melee attack can disrupt it. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  19. Yes. :innocent: I have only 2 (the darts are throwing weapons): the kukri and the dagger. And to loose a weapon, you forget the disarming rules and the impales. Even with 2 spare weapons, I have sometimes finished some fights barehanded. We see that quite often, even with (not so) begining characters. I agree with your comment on more advanced characters. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  20. In Stormbringer, if you take in 1 hit more than 1/2 your total hit point, it is a major wound and you roll on the table to get nasty results. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  21. Yes, agreed. But I think it is worth it, or at least as worth as disrupting somebody and doing 2 points WITHOUT disrupting a healing 2. And with the larger spells, the melee attack has enough time to land. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  22. On this one, I side with you. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  23. Easy to do (or not too difficult with a higher DEX), quite impossible in the other case. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  24. That's just a personal preference. I've never liked the combination of the major wound table and the variable armor, because an unlucky player has a too high probability of loosing his character. And as it is available as an optional rule, I will use it. I'm not complaining. Runequestement votre, Kloster
  25. No, I don't drop my armor, my shield and my weapons. Due to weapons breaking (more important with RQII than RQ III, I agree but it still occurs) and disarming rules, plus the fumbles tables and impaling, I usually start with 3 or 4 weapons on me, just to be able to finish the fight. My current character has a ringmail armor (10 ENC), a broadsword (2 ENC), a hoplite shield (a scutum in fact, but ruleswise it is the same) (5 ENC), a kukri (0.5 ENC) and a dagger (0.5 ENC), plus 4 darts inside the scutum (2 ENC). That means a minimum ENC of 20. I thus start at 5 (CON 13, STR 12). I'm not counting a bow and a javelin (carried by my mount), nor the luggages and food (idem). Runequestement votre, Kloster
