  1. What about the Psionic power in BRP?

    Or Mysticism rule in Legend/Mythras?

Additionally I like the stunt concept of Revolution D100 or feat from Blood Tide, and I am thinking it would be nice to add a range of power (maximum INT of them) and I am thinking to make a list of power gated various skill at, say, 50% or 75%, maybe inspired from D&D classes's power or Mysticism

  2. Barak, I will hypothesise... since I dunno what is the real problem you have in game.. But it might be a little like me.. Since I only really GM a D100 game only recently... But I was always keen because HP don't change and are not too high! (though I am still contemplating every now and then use the CON+SIZE option instead of (CON+SIZ)/2 for HP)

On one hand it's not very unrealistic (in fact it is realistic!) to die to 1 or 2 sword stroke.. (though it is definitely unrealistic to die, on average, from 3 punches), on the other hand it's. somewhat uncomfortable to kill the player characters almost on a whim and rather quickly... so if this is what annoys you, this is how I am slowly getting ok with it:

    - 1: Luck points, very important, lot of ways to die quickly and nastily in BRP. And maybe damage are a tad much sometimes. But hey, that why you use luck point to avoid the situation altogether! Use CoC 7 rule for luck point, it's gud!

    - 2: Another CoC 7: 0 HP or less doesn't necessary mean death!

    - 3: finally (optional) location HP kind of give more life to a character.. though it is somewhat problematic with high damage / spell. undecided here...

  3. Hey Paolo,

To answer your very first question at the top....

    - when I look at the RD100 forum flooded with my question I feel self consciously bad about it!
    - I both like and BRP and RD100 and kind of undecided between them...  but while I am firmly with RD100 for my Dark Elf campaign now, I plan to use BRP for the upcoming Scifi one and many of my question have my scifi campaign in mind now... this one too, though the armor part was quite relevant to the Dark Elf campaign as well....

Anyway thanks for pitching in... I have to say I had only one full read of the RD100 rule (the first time, when I was confused...) I have trouble reading it again or finding section of interest.. 😮
Like the rule on page 73! ^_^
And the (new) sunder effect! we were looking for something like that!

And I misread the damage weapon rules, I though you had to have a better quality weapon! But equal will work as well hey? Cool!

  4. BTW I only knwo the name of "Command and conquer" and that is a game.. 😮

As for Overwatch... I played almost non stop for the last 3 years until recently.... At the start I was aiming for the same amount of hours in every heroes, I am a jack of all trade..  😂

So I have more than one favorite!
Those days most my favorites are in the DPS camp... anyway, here we go:
    - Pharah: she can fly, enough said! Plus fire rocket and she is, of course, cute
    - Tracer: she can zip around unstoppable. In a pinch she can rewind time. Awesome abilities! Her weakness is that she is what one would call a glass canon and have stupid short range weapon.
    - special mention: Zarya. well times bubble can save many lives. And make her an unstoppable force on the battlefield!
    - special mention: Mei: she is smart, cute and a mad inventor like Iron Man! :P

  5. A relatable metaphor: stealing a Ferrari.

Poor player, in lawless world steal a Ferrari. Congratulation the player now own a Ferrari.
The player now takes the Ferrari in a wild pursuit through the wilderness on what is barely a dirt road. Chance are good the body takes quite some damage and the engine and tires might need some work and replacement. I will bet it's going to be more expensive that regular auto maintenance, and certainly more than a motorbike.

Well.. I'd like to do the same thing with full plate armor.

    • Haha 2
  6. Well.. I just want to break the gear...
(in fact it's only vaguely related with the character being poor as in, it's hard to keep up good gear, while not having the money to buy / maintain it in the first place)

In BRP at least we got weapon breaking rule. I wonder if anyone has armour breaking rule too?!

  7. Fritz Leiber, I believe, is the one who originally coined the term "Sword and Sorcery" when he created the adventures of Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser. It was back in the 50's and 60s. Nothing to do with Lovecraft.. though there might be some inspiration occasionally.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_Leiber

I think I can say without exaggerating he is one of those author who stand the test of time (thought it's a bit early yet to be so affirmative). I say that because I realise one day, in my French lesson at school, that Victor Hugo's story are as readable today as they were back then.. unlike some other... And I think Fritz Leiber has a timeless fantasy style... (I much prefer him over Tolkien.... he is more.. relatable and funny I'd say).

As for your take.. I never really like super hero (in theory) because they are so unrelatable (it might be why I like Marvel movie nonetheless, because they try hard to make their hero relatable in the movies), plus both Fritz Leiber and Marvel movie have this self deprecating humor while staying true to the fantasy they describe.

So.. with those forewords you can guess I might like your take on the Mythos even more than the original! ;)

You never played Overwtach hey?! 😮
Well.. a PvE game is coming (Overwatch 2) and they might do some book / movie.. maybe.. at least we know they like the idea..

  8. I am playing Revolution D100 now and there isn't much (that I have seen) rule to break equipment.

Even in BRP weapon, with an easy weapon break rule (on special and crit attack) (which is one rule that is attracting me back to BRP), armour doesn't break..

Now the problem is that my players accumulate ever better gear.

Now I got nothing against looting and getting better gear... and while I slightly (I admit) annoyed that they wear full armour full time (slightly understandable in the context though) I have a feeling I am missing something that contribute to full plate mail cost and rarity.

You only need to defeat 1 knight, boom you get an armour... and then a second knight (much more easily), boom 2 armour...

At that stage the simplest option for me was to make (at least full chain mail) quite common... But I think adding some sort of expensive armor maintenance rule would be more appropriate...

    Any thoughts on that topic?

  9. Speaking seriously some physicist does postulate non energy conservation at the moment of big bang...
    https://phys.org/news/2017-01-violations-energy-early-universe-dark.html

Not that I was trying to argue it seriously.. Just thinking there was a question here for the neophyte to ask.... (and a funny one at that, you know, with the apparent paradox! in fact it's only funny if one find that paradoxical)
(also the paper, while more rigorous and scientific, is not quite what I had in mind, which is less rigorous and more... perhaps biblical? maybe I should have just said "God, apparently, doesn't follow the conservation of energy") (mmm... maybe I should stop, sometimes nobody else find something funny too... 😕 )

A friend bought a shotgun from a shop just around the corner from a police station, so he walked in to register it, but with it over his shoulder. He got a few funny looks, then a policeman came up and asked if there was something he could help with. When he explained, the policeman said to come to his desk, then nonchalantly added "Next time, could you break it and leave it open, so we can see there are no shells loaded?" He then realised that he could have been tasered by a dozen policemen, quite easily.

    Great story!

I wonder... and I guess it could be possible on some planet that if they see in big armor, they send heavily armored official to check you (heavily armored for safety) and then billed the person for the extra cost they inccured! :P

In fact it might be a fun way to reduce player's money and incentivise more stealthy gear at the same time....

  11. That's ok...  I don't really care about horror or Cthulhu, I am here for D100 system! :D  (BRP and Revolution D100 being my latest favorites)

Not to deny I did read some entertaining story in the past with Cthulhu mythos, just to say I am NOT a stickler with .. "authenticity" (is that the right word?), good and (or?) inventive (and believable) writing is what appeal to me! :)

For some reason I just thought of Fritz Leiber and Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser while writing that, hahah.. maybe I should read their stories again, in English this time... (Read it first in French when I was a kid... since I used to be French :P ).. but speaking of which, didn't Ningauble of the Seven Eyes itself said that all story are true in the right parallel universe?! :P

BTW, good on you to enlist DVa, she could be quite helpful there indeed! And she is kind of forgotten those latter day! (but hey, she might be back soon ^_^ )
Fighting in the street of R'lyeh! Wow! The untold truth finally revealed! 😮 Or is it now?

  12. Sounds interesting! 😮

I wanna play with you as GM now!
Could I play Tracer back then when she was fighting alien monstrosity in unknown corner of the time streams?! 😮

And.... does Winston knows about Cthulhu? What does he plan to do about it?

is Cthulhu's daughter a monstrosity herself or it's just propaganda?

    So many questions! 😮

  13. Don't worry about it G33k, if you had read the thread you will have seen that we already identified that this thread is neither relevant nor funny.. unfortunately...

And yeah btw.. mass was not conserved... in fact mass conservation is just an approximation.. energy conservation is the more general version... in fact even energy conservation is an approximation! :P

(as I think is video explains:

Le sigh.  Particularly, perhaps, but far from exclusively.  The Internet makes it far easier for us to be stupid worldwide.  Thanks for the special attention, though.

Oh I have seen the documentaries!

You know, "Escape from LA", "Escape from New York", etc ... Life is tough over there! 😛

  15. As you probably noticed, I don't have an argument.... :P

I am just reacting to your unreasonable aggression!

I even admitted that I might be confused and it might not have been funny after all!

I won't back down on you being excessively aggressive for no good reason though... (I might have taken a needless low jab at these being "typical american behavior" sorry for stereotype, not sorry for saying you were overreacting)

  16. The real pertinent question one could direct at me was "how dare you speak without thinking" (indeed I didn't) to which I will retort "do I really need to think seriously before saying something funny sounding!".....

But if one turns the "do I" into the "why shouldn't I" it all become clear...

It is my prejudice / stereotype that, particularly in America, the scientifically minded is constantly under assault by evangelist, anti vaxer, flat earther, etc... feeling are raw, anger is bubbling.. and one would typically not safely joke on such topics with those people (American people, that is)...

Also, to be fair, I remember when I was 27, it was a time I chose to go to some christian group to let them see the error of their ways (unsuccessfully, I might add)... so really, I shouldn't be too surprised at your overreaction....

As to where is the humour in that... well if I have to explain maybe indeed it was not funny after all.... Take it as a .. I think it's called an insider joke...
It comes with the feeling of surprise at the apparent contradiction between conservation of mass and a view of the big bang such as "once there was nothing, then were was everything". I, at the very least, find that funny.
