  1. I've a vague recollection of some such issue. However, I’m not sure whether it’s been noted in the Pegasus Plateau corrections thread, but the scale for the Locaem map on p29 seems to be out to me. I’d believe it if it were miles not km, and the top tick should be 16, not 20.

  4. Gosh what luck, I’m just getting to storm season and sacred time 1625, just at the very moment when the White Bull Campaign is covering this. Listening in, this is a great resource. Perhaps I’m just lucky, because what Jeff’s doing ties in beautifully with my own half formed ideas, but I have to say it couldn’t be a better resource for my campaign! So, I would heartily recommend it. However, for those who would just like to dip in, first I found it difficult to find the episodes I wanted. After a bit of frustration with google search, I found it was easiest navigating from the Chaosium you tube site, so to remind of Scotty's link: https://www.youtube.com/c/ChaosiumInc/videos Secondly, it would be very useful if each episode were to have a title and date to navigate by.   5. Gosh, I find it slightly amusing if a lot of us have done something similar. It's a while since I did it (and actually, I wasn't really worried too much, I just wanted a working answer, so that I'd be consistent), but I think I was happy that the recent maps, i.e. those from the RQG GM were consistent enough to get a master distance measurement. I then applied that to, for example, the Colymar Map as @Scorus uses. And got a surprisingly similar figure of 1cm = 2.2 km (surprising because I was after consistency not really accuracy - I'd be delighted if my Glorantha was only 20% off accurate, in more respects than map scale!)

  7. Given my adventures are just to venture into the Ducklands... What is the Duck population distribution around Dragon Pass? Here is some very tentative speculation, in anticipation of the wisdom which is hopefully to flow gushing from you, the ever-so-generous community. Duck population in Dragon Pass: 10,000 Thanks to @Joerg’s input (but of course distorted by my own special lens of miscomprehension), perhaps 8 out of 10 Dragon Pass ducks to inhabit Duck Tribal lands (mainly Duck vale, Duck Point to Duck Ford, and extending around the Marsh, stretching a bit along the various rivers flowing into it, and also into Beast Valley, along Creekstream), one in ten further down the Creekstream, and the rest distributed, either attached to as small bands like Yozarian's or the Drakemere bunch, or individuals/pairs (presumably "adopted" into other clans, or outlaws, as in not-in-community rather than necessarily bandit). Turning these into guesses for clans and other groupings. Duck Tribal lands: population: 8,000, or 10-11 clans of 750 (or would Duck clans be smaller than typical Sartar Orlanthi?) This would include Duck Point. I can't find the figures, but I'd imagine Alone size which is only about 500, (even Swenstown is only 1000) and I'd imagine the duck population of Duck point to be only about 50% of this. Duck Diaspora: 2,000 If we have a “village” group of 100, “bands” of about 25, and “pairs” of, well, 2, that might give: group size frequency Count village 100 0.3 6 group 25 0.3 24 pair 2 0.3 300 Individual 1 0.1 200 There is some excellent stuff in Tales of the Reaching moon 19. The Anas Clan, 270 ducks, living at the headwaters of the Creekstream River where it rises in Delecti’s Marsh. It also mentions the remains of the Thunder Duck, Cabbage Duck and Rune Duck clans of the Sartar hills. What do duck villages look like? I’m imagining something like an Iron Age Crannog dwelling (with excellent and quick access to water, would that be more important that walls?):

  9. I vote the opposite. I really like the whole Pendragon approach of the The Great Pendragon Campaign, providing a framework of the great events unfolding around the players. I never found this approach constraining rather the opposite, it was quite liberating. Having a framework to work with really helped get the creative juices going, and made it easier to change things, because I could see the consequences of those changes. As a small example, I'm finding Vasana's saga really useful, because my PCs are *ideal* for the Vasana role. So that's the current story arc of my campaign, though it's unlikely it will play out as I envision.

I’m thinking of the troubled relationship between town and University that Oxford had historically (for example the Scholastica riots https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Scholastica_Day_riot), providing maximum Roleplay opportunity…
  11. It doesn't seem unbelievable. Given the small size of almost all the cities (only Alda-Chur and Boldhome are above 2000), distinguishing between rural and urban population is meaningless. At 2000, everyone in the city *could* till the fields, or herd cattle. They just happen to have homes behind nice walls. So the only question is really Boldhome, and that's only 11,000. I don't have the Guide (I'm waiting until I feel rich), but I vaguely remember that Sartar Kingdom of Heroes was roughly consistent with the population figures for Sartar in the Genertela book from RQiii. Might the reduction in population in the guide reflect not counting the Alda-Chur Alone confederations in the Sartar population count, as it's been annexed by Tarsh? Totting up only the tribes for "old" Sartar the figures from Sartar Kingdom of Heroes, it does come to 100,000 which is suggestive. However, this is all a distraction from the real question. There are 10,000 Ducks in Dragon Pass (according to Genertela book from RQiii). Any idea how are they distributed? As a working assumption, I assumed 1/3 near the marsh/Lismelder lands, 1/3 in beast valley and 1/3 distributed throughout Sartar. Obviously this fluctuated in the Duck Hunt, as a good proportion of the distributed either get killed, or flee to the marsh/beast valley, before some fraction cautiously return.

  13. In general, I’d be surprised if that a properly acclaimed Thane would lose much sleep over Raveena’s claim. But, given the old Sheruff Thane, was Dronlan Swordsharp, I’ve always assumed that there’s a *possibility* at least that he’s related to a certain Garrath Sharpsword, aka Argrath. Certainly, it would be rather neat in my campaign if Argrath had a special interest in Apple Lane. If so, what happens with Raveena could make things deliciously complicated a couple of years down the line!

They’d only blamed him because he was still hung over. He sucked in his chest, trying to ignore the building headache, and stepped out into the harsh sun to review the new recruits, screwing his eyes against its dazzling brilliance. “line-up, line-up, you miserable lot!” he barked, his horse voice carrying across the parade ground. Then a broad smile grew on his poorly shaven jowls. He knew exactly where to post private ook, and who’d be relying on that monkey’s shield arm in the shield wall! O revenge could be sweet…
  15. I'm a bit vague when it comes to zoology, but I though they barked. However, I did know that Ancient Egyptians considered baboons to be sacred, and related them with Thoth, the God of letters. So, perhaps there might be an opening for Librarian after all. Just don't return the books late, or the Librarian rips your arms off...

  19. O.k. a giant spider just jumped a player character in my campaign. It was very satisfying; she's played by a 10 year old with a spider phobia, and her character just ran away screaming. However the poisoned bite was nasty, and the character is barely alive. And the rest of the party have just twigged that if it had bitten anyone else, they would be very dead. So I'm anticipating that suddenly they're going to want to get hold of antidotes. I'm wondering how difficult to make antidotes to get hold of. Also price. I'm thinking of 10L per point, but you pay for all the points up to the POT bought (like the cost of spirit magic spells). So 3 POT = 30+20+10 = 60L Also, up to 5 POT, I'd make fairly easy to get, a trip to the local Ernalda temple. Up to 10, it would be from Chalana Arroy temples in local Cities, and above 10, a special import from the Chalana Arroy temples in Esrolia (requiring Sora, and she'd probably want paying by a favour). Also I wonder about having antidotes go off. Perhaps each season roll a POTx5 or lose a point of POT? Any ideas?
  20. I'd go for something bad tempered like a camel. That way mounting up could occasionally result in a brawl between the mounts and would be riders. Or, as you've mentioned your baboons are especially smelly, perhaps mounts with refined olfactory senses, who object to the waft of their riders.
  21. I agree. I've always felt that 80% skill levels were the sweet spot for RQ. You're waiting for that opening when a parry fails, which happens a lot less at 100%. (Though I'm loving how breaking weapons means that combats aren't dragging on, even when everyone's approaching 100%). However the starting powers as written is fantastic for the current campaign. My group is almost completely new to RQ and Glorantha (and mostly are young'uns, new to roleplaying), and its fantastic the colour and vibrancy of the characters they've rolled up. However, I am only allowing rune point replenishment at seasonal holy days, to keep rune points down. For my next campaign, (I'm dreaming of Balazar at the moment), the characters will start a lot younger, perhaps with 1 runepoint. And I'm toying with the idea that you don't get all common rune spells, when you sacrifice your POW you get 1 common and 1 special rune spell.
  22. Possibly, but don't forget there are disadvantages. They're not fully bipedal, hence using a 2H spear for a charge, and then dropping it to fight claw and fang. I would impose penalties on a baboon who wanted to use e.g. sword and shield, as it wouldn't feel natural to them and they'd find it very uncomfortable. Also I'd make armour uncomfortable for them as well, perhaps doubling the effective ENC?
  23. Its just getting to Humakt’s high holy day in my campaign, so this thread is suddenly very relevant. I like the idea of ritualised duals, and mock battles, thanks! Though I think that they should relate to a myth, either of the god, or from the cult history. So, I’ll be roleplaying them with the players helping to re-create that myth ritually through a worship ceremony, but still involving battle rolls, duels and “mock” battles. Looking through the book of Heortling Mythology, I’ve found Humakt p32 (separating the living from the dead), Humakt the Champion, p33, and the Humakti Battalion p69. Are there any others that are useful? Also, the Humakt in question is a Duck, who just happens to be in Duck Point at the moment, is there anything specific to the Druluz Humakt I could draw on? I like the Humakt Champion myth, fighting with Orlanth, as it could resonate with the local history, of the Beastmen wars, and how the Ducks defeat the Sambari hero, Kurash Varn, and proving only they can protect against Delecti’s undead. As for rewards for good rolls, that’s already come up. Said Duck was very impressive at a previous (seasonal) holy day at Indrodar’s necklace. That brought him to the attention of Cornard Deathdealer (who’s still alive in my campaign), who took him aside to offer advice, and is likely to prove an important ally.

  25. Perhaps a very human way of looking at it. If it's the journey that counts, perhaps it's these that when they finally ascend to dragonhood, are the greatest of all. Then the pyramid becomes inverted, and the inhuman king is the servant of those that follow. Who knows with Dragonnewts?
