Tertius
Hey, everyone! So, I've found myself with a severe hankering for Venetian blinds and bourbon, and the question of ”are there any noir themed games or supplements for my favorite system out there?” immediately popped into mind. Does anyone have any recommendations? Noir is pretty much the only setting I feel I'm lacking in my BRP games, and I'd much like to remedy that. Thanks a bunch! Anytime I ever want to run such a setting back in the day I just used CoC (it was third edition at the time) and it worked quite nice. 1 Quote ... remember, with a TARDIS, one is never late for breakfast! Yeah, kind of the opposite of Pulp Cthulhu -- CoC made grittier. Maybe re-tool the Sanity mechanic slightly so the game can document the inexorable spiral down the sink into jaded cynicism instead of madness. Setting-wise, Pulp Cthulhu is pretty much on the money in terms of timeline for early "Noir," with an emphasis on the 1930s. Ignore the over-the-top action, of course. It could easily be interpreted for '40s and '50s Noir, too. !i! 1 Quote ...developer of White Rabbit Green
seneschal
The monograph "Berlin '61" may be slightly late for the time period you want but its Cold War sensibilities may provide the bleak outlook you are seeking. It is set in a divided city roiling with intrigue where no one's loyalties can be trusted.
TheHistorian
I agree, take CoC, strip out the supernatural, and you're pretty much there. The hard part is creating good adventures. GURPS Mysteries is obviously not BRP, but it's the best gaming resource on the subject. 1 Quote 44/
alter
A Dirt World is source of good scenarios. There is even an adventure generator just like in Astounding Adventures. It runs on ORE mechanic. Edited November 26, 2019 by alter
