Pub Quiz early on Friday evening - the best idea I've seen.

Sounds good. I just have to decide when I can afford to pay for it.

New job in two weeks, that should help.

April's nearly upon us... which means...

If you want to book for Continuum, do so before Tuesday as the price increases from 1st April. At the moment the prices are:

Registration for Residential Members: £20 (£35 from 1st April)

3-Night room (Fri, Sat, Sun) booking: £105

Single Night room booking: £40 per night

All rooms are extremely comfortable and en-suite. Each room has bed linen and towels, plus telephone and internet access. The rooms are grouped into flats of 6 rooms, with a large, airy, well equipped kitchen - great for impromptu gaming.

If you intend to come along just on a Day Pass, these cost £18 each per day and can be bought on the day or in advance.

What else can Continuum offer?

Superb range of games. We'll have the preliminary timetable up soon.

Great bar with Real Ales

Seminars and guest presentations: Glorantha, HeroQuest, RuneQuest and BRP

Auction

Pub Quiz and Ice Breaker events to get everyone into the con spirit

In other news...

Website.

Yes, its been very bare recently, but that will be changing rapidly. Games Maestro Graham 'That's a Play on Words' Spearing has put together the first list of tabletop games we'll be hosting and the PDF should be on the website in the next 24 hours.

Liber Newtus

Newt Newport has kindly donated all his esteemed MOLAD scenarios for publication in a single, mighty tome which will form one this year's fund-raisers. This will be the much vaunted Continuum Con Book this year, and our thanks (heartfelt) are extended to Newt for his generosity.

Guests

We have Greg, Sandy, Jeff, Angus, Rick and Mark so far. Others to be announced in due course. The intention, naturally, is to chain Greg to a table and make him talk and run games; Sandy becomes Evil High Priest and will be hosting an evening of Horror Films from his Vault of Gore-Filled Doom; Jeff will be chewing scenery and hosting the Glorantha Panel; Angus will also be running some games and generally being the affable Gaming God we know him to be.

Cities of Dara Happa

Jeff Richard and Greg are putting together the 'Cities of Dara Happa' book, filled with Second and Third age DH goodness, making it the ideal companion to 'Dara Happa Stirs'.

Auction

Yep, there'll be one. So scour your shelves and attics and bring forth the gaming goodies you want to sell. We'll be issuing auction sheets and tickets shortly.

Wild and Wacky Events

Robo-racing... Ice Breaker... Pub Quiz... more details to follow as these extravaganzas develop.

So, with only 4 months to go, Continuum's pace is picking up. We've over 110 delegates so far, and look forward to seeing many more as the con looms. Pray to Yelm for a fine August sun; pray to Orlanth to keep the storms at bay. Pray to the Celestial Dragon for mystic insight to make this the best Continuum yet, and pray to Malkion for wisdom and divine gaming...

Have a good weekend.

Cheers, Darran

An update from Lawrence Whitaker

Greetings Continuees,

The membership list has been updated - twice for some of you (and we know who you are, and are attending to that small matter! Its not a cunning way of boosting the members' list... just my clumsy keyboard skills) so please check Http://www.continuum.uk.net and the Cast and Crew drop-down. If you're not on there and should be, please drop me a line.

The programme is developing with the usual litany of clashes, ums, ahs and 'where do we schedule that?' headaches, but really, its looking good and solid. Lots of Glorantha panels because there are lots of Glorantha announcements and updates. On that Gloranthan note, we're holding a 'So You're New to Glorantha?' panel. This is for all those Continuees who are interested in learning more about Greg Stafford's most famous creation, and how to get into the setting for gaming. We'll also be holding a special Gloranthan scenario especially for neophites, showcasing the HeroQuest 2 ruleset. This is your chance to discover the rich and wonderous setting of Glorantha!

However, we have some interesting discussion panels on other subjects, including 'Faith and Roleplaying part II' - a follow-on to Dr Moose's very popular panel from Continuum 2006. Greg Stafford will be hosting another bout of Saurintology so you can discover your Inner Dinosaur, and Mark Galeotti will be plunging into 'History and Role-playing'. With all the buzz around Dark Heresy, our own Mike Mason will be hosting a panel to discuss the game, its history and where it's going. And, for all those Moorcock fans, I'll be hosting an Eternal Champion panel to bring you up to speed with news on what's happening with the Mongoose gaming line based on Mike's books and to talk about how the Elric and Hawkmoon games developed into their current incarnations.

The membership list stands at 183 and we're looking to break that magical 200 number. So if you haven't signed-up yet, get your skates on; and, if you have a friend or friends (let's face it, who doesn't?) who's thinking of coming to Continuum, or maybe not even considered it, give 'em a push in the right direction.

Some of you have asked me about freeform sign-ups. Simon Bray, Grand Constable of Freeformshire, will be publicising details very soon.

The delay is threefold: first, we're still getting freeform details from the relevant GMs/writers; second, we had hoped to have online sign-up but that's not looking possible, so we're swinging into Cunning Plan B; and thirdly, we have some clashes to resolve so that we get a good, fair, equitable spread. But you'll be able to sign-up for your freeforms very, very soon. And, if you've never freeformed before, but feel like giving it a go, please let us know and we'll be happy to guide you through how it all works and pair you up with one of our Freeform Mentors so that you can get the most out of your freeforming experience.

As already notified, there'll be the Continuum Auction. Mike Mason will be sending out more details soon, and we'll be adding the auction sheets and labels to the website. So look through your collections and see what you want to turn into hard cash...

So, only 6 weeks to go... Continuum will be with us before you know it...!

Lawrence Whitaker

July Update 1

Greetings Continuees,

The committee had its final uber-meeting and site recce of John Foster Hall yesterday in order to finalise the programme and where various events will be staged. There will be some amendments to the published schedule as a result, so do keep your eyes on Continuum over the next week or so (and here, and over at the Tavern).

Special Room Deal

Our supply of en-suites has been more or less filled, but we have secured some single rooms in the adjacent houses. As these single rooms have shared facilities, we've decided to offer them to those who haven't booked yet at a discount on the normal price. The usual en-suite room-rate is £40, but we're offering shared faciilities singles at £30 per night instead (including breakfast) - a £30 saving if you book for all three nights. However, please note that this offer is unfortunately not open to people who have already booked: the university is already working through the room layouts and, because there are quite a lot of people who have requested to be roomed next to or close to friends and family, it will prove a major headache for the arrangements. So, if you haven't booked already, you do have a choice of an en-suite room at the standard cost (but we are now down to limited places), or a shared facilities single at £30 per night instead. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Continuum Goodies Pre-Orders

We'll be selling Continuum poloshirts as usual - a nice bottle green colour with the con logo - and you again have the option to have your shirt monogrammed with the name or slogan of your choice. Polos cost £20 for a standard or £25 for a monogrammed. If you want a monogrammed shirt, please send us either a cheque or Paypal (payment@continuum.uk.net) payment for £25 before 14th July (cheques payable to Continuum) along with your size (S, M, L, XL, XXL or XXXL), and tell us what you want on the shirt (names/nicknames and nothing offensive!)

We are also proud to have available 'Liber Newtus' and 'Shreds of Light and Reason', con books exclusive to Continuum and packed full of gaming goodness. 'Liber Newtus' is a collection of Newt Newport's superb HeroQuest scenarios for Glorantha and Mythic Russia, whilst SOLAR deals with the Dara Happan empire of Glorantha and collects together old and new material, updated and refined especially for the con. Each book is £15 and we are accepting pre-orders. Again, cheques or Paypal, and clearly stipulating the titles you want to buy.

'Hearts in Glorantha Issue 1' will also be for sale; the new Glorantha fanzine, covering HeroQuest, Mongoose RuneQuest and general sage advice from Gloranthan luminaries. Issues cost £5.

But how about the Continuum super-bundle? Bought individually, all the above goodies would set you back £55/£60 (if you have a monogrammed shirt). Instead, you can pre-order all of the above and receive a £5 discount - so £50 or £55. This is pre-orders only! We'll have your super-bundle ready for collection at registration. Just send us a cheque or Paypal payment by 14th July, clearly marked 'Super-bundle' with your polo shirt details as outlined above.

Please CC the Polo Shirt orders to darransimsATgooglemailDOTcom.

Size small med large x-l 2xl 3xl 4xl 5xl

To Fit 36" 38" 42" 45" 49" 50" 53" 57"

There'll be further updates in the next few days, so watch this space!

Cheers, Darran

Residential registration closes at 5pm, today, Monday 21st July 2008.

If you want to buy Day Passes you can do so up until 31st July. Cost if £9 for Friday and £18 each for Saturday and Sunday.

Our convention membership at present is the same as 2006 (217 delegates), which is excellent news and we're all looking forward to Continuum. However, please check the Cast and Crew section of the website and, if you find your name isn't on the delegate list and should be, contact me ASAP. I'll need to know if you registered by Paypal or snail mail, and the date.

So I have finished the Continuum 2008 FAQ and posted it up on various websites and forums.

You can find it here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Continuum2008/files/CONTINUUM2008%20FAQ-04.pdf

I have also posted it to the Tavern forum here:

to UK Role Players forum here:

and on Yog-Sothoth here:

[Continuum 2008] FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - Yog-Sothoth for Lovecraft & Cthulhu -

CONTINUUM FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Some general rules for getting the most out of Continuum...

1. Study the programme - note what events are happening and when; decide what panels you want to attend.

Plan your weekend!

2. Study the sign-up boards for games that interest you - note any clashes with panels or other events: don't sign-up to a game that you know, or think, you'll drop out of at the last minute!

3. Don't deliberately sign-up for multiple games that overlap or clash just to secure a place. This is frustrating for GMs and other players who will commit to playing but find all the spaces gone.

4. Please be aware of your behaviour. Everyone wants to have fun at Continuum, but we will not tolerate abusive or aggressive behaviour, whether from the sober or the drink-inspired. Remember that there are families and youngsters here - and that the convention is in a residential area, too. Continuum reserves the right to ask anyone behaving in an unacceptable manner to leave the convention (and we really, really don't want to be placed in that position!).

5. If you're stuck for something to do, find a Mentor. They'll be wearing big colourful badges and are both friendly and approachable - don't hesitate to make use of them!

6. Come and see us at Continuum Control if you're still unsure - the committee will do its utmost to get you into something we think you'll enjoy.

Cheers, Darran
