Soccercalle
I know that Vingkot is a son of Orlanth. But I wonder if Heort had any blood relationship with Vingkot. (I know that he lived much later, but was Vingkot an ancestor)?
soltakss
Yes, I think that Heort was a descendent of Vingkot. The Book of Heortling Mythology p120 has Heort's ancestry: Vingkot Orlanthsson Korol Kandoros Arthal the Wanderer Deskedov the Punisher Parntor the Swift Andarn Darntor the Gale Ornagald 50 generations Darndrev the Antlered Heort However, it does not state that Andarn was a son of Parntor the Swift. 1 Quote Simon Phipp - Caldmore Chameleon - Wallowing in my elitism since 1982. metcalph
Heort's genealogy is also given in King of Sartar: Quote One of the men who aided the Hidden King was named Heort the Swift. He was the son of Darndrev the Horned; son of Darntror, who died defending his king; son of Parntor the Swift, who started the Deer Clan; son of the Punisher; son of Arthtal; son of Korol, the fourth son of Vingkot. KoS p76 Which has many of the same names. I suspect the differences are that the KoS has been "cleaned up".

Vingkot was an alternative (Northern) form of the god we now call Orlanth. Making him "Orlanth's son" was a way of euhumerising him.

A son of Orlanth and a mortal woman from ab iobscure northern tribe, rather than of Ernalda. Unlike the Durevings, the Vingkotling lineage is less favored by the wife of Orlanth, despite Vingkot's wives (daughters of Tada). Vingkot had to face off Odayla (or his demigod hero) at Grizly Peak, establishing southern domination over the northern Orlanthi. He seems to be localized around Kero Fin. 1 Quote Telling how it is excessive verbis
