Grave Quest by Christopher L House

Characters play Young Teens or young adults who have joined a secret scavenger Game Society named Grave Quest which sole purpose is to investigate paranormal events and places, in doing so this highly secret organization rewards it participates with cash rewards and ranks with in it organization, as well as learn actual magic and the so called secrets of the Grave, each rank build those who Survive or do not drop out to becomes a Grand Skull keeper and those are taped to go start another Grave quest Cell else where, or take over the current one.

This Setting has several angles

` as members find to their dismay the real supernatural world

` as the Victims of the organization, as a creature of the supernatural world

` as law enforcement on the trail of a insidious Criminal Organization

` or combination of all three!

` such as a group of talented young people hunting down a historic secret globe Hoping

Crime syndicate.

` Such as UFO hunters tracking down Alien raiding parties

` Such as secret organization out to discovery A global Conspiracy to hide the end of the world!

This is a normal level game counting on reality and normalization to feed the mechanization of a thriller and horror game, what secrets the Player characters discover is up to the GM , From ancient vampire cults to Charlatans out to defraud and scam others!

Maybe UFO, Or the coming end of the world as we know it!

This setting well explores several possibilities allowing each Grave Quest to be unique and special to each group and GM.

Such ideals and offering as epic game adventures such as The Dark Moon Chronicles, Gate City Cycle and God’s Gold Conspiracy or Meddling kids and their Mascot type adventures

Note this is a game with in a game and all though no real rules are being added

The Grave quest has ranks and levels for the player character with in the society and even the monster gain them points that allow them to progress to higher levels and ranks with in the society, it is superficial at best and has its own story and political extras for role playing purposes.

Chapters

1 : Welcome Possible member pamphlet

This is a example of the recruiting pamphlet of the Society. It flavor and Element.

2 : Members only rank and file of the organization

This is all about the rank and File of the secret Society, their structure and cell arrangement, as well as the membership benefits and rewards.

3 : Guide to the Eternal night

This is again a flavor text with the Societies take on some of its encounters, a parody of many rpg/larp Monster manuals, but there is hidden some kernels of Truth and helpful information, incase a real encounter is plausible.

On and adjustment page is the mechanic for the creatures.

This is game master eyes only, and includes all the possible truths the Game master may or may not include! There is also mechanical Game info and possible Campaigns and example for the Gamemaster to take form as they please.

This covers additional information for the possible origins and secret society, if real magic is optied for then it includes new magic spells to add flavor to the game.

This introduces Perks and Benefits as well as limitations into the GAME, its not heavy mechanics the Perks and Benefits are included in background options such as Careers and Back story, as well as limitations from the super world Character fails.

This creates a possible more real feel to the game.

Have Not considers a Cover yet

But I HAVE SVERAL sketches and inking I am considering rendering into Pastel Painting!

That sounds like an a very viable gaming supplement. I like the idea of being able to play something like Scooby Doo. Plus, there seems to be enough material to play much more darker and sinister style games. Maybe even splatterpunk>:-> I like it. It would definitely be something that I would want to play.:thumb:

The more I look at your write up of the game, it seems that you could play any type of horror/suspense/thriller/conspiracy setting with this. Maybe you should have something in there about playing X-Files type games.

a playtest group would be nice!

I have been using Gravequest sense 1992 FOR SETTING UP WOD and CoC,I have used it as the central investagation of the FBI'S Twilight Group - when a young FBI Talent <PSYCHIC> named Carline Galloway left PROJECT TWILIGHT, she went to Austine College in Sheman Texas for a quit small town college enviroment, what she found thier was Gravequest!

students disappearing and if they did reappear they where desturbed or comatosed , so having no other choice she contacted PT and they said they already had an agent on the scene. . . . her!

and here is you associated team, Her Psychology Professior, and that how I ran the oppsite end of Gravequest, that is also how i got to know my future wife.

Anne she was playing Caroline. we where married year and half later.

I used it for my Darkmoon chronicles

and I USED it as a springing board for mage the awakening/ and even to get people exposed to my UFO THRILLER Gate City, as you can see:)

well it looks like Dustin approved the mongraph so we are moving on with Gravequest- I am going to see if I can set up a sub form here and let a few of you review and make suggestions on some of the playablilty of some concepts, because I plan on adding Perks quirks and Techniques into the setting as for background with out added to the rules.

so who do you ask for a sub form?

Not hard at all! I'll get a playtest forum running in no time. We just have to talk about how you want it organized.

Do you have a image/illustration for the monograph yet, or should I just find one? (I want to get it up in the news section!)

i well be spending next week working on image files and possible cover art to get to Dustin so he too can get an ideal of art.

is there any place to post for local artist that might want to contribute to a mongraph- i can not pay anything but I can give them place in the Book credit and if it ever gose book they have a possibility of thier art getting choosen by Chaosium , I am new to the game publishing arena so I have a lot to get together!

I am a tech head and tech manual writer!

Congratulations on a great idea and your success on getting a monograph.

As far as artists go...well, they aren't easy to come by, especially free ones. My solution was to take some pictures, beg and borrow and plead...took a while, but I think I did all right.

If you are on other gaming forums, it helps to spread the word around as far as possible. I have seen very little success from places like deviantart or elfwood, but conceptart was pretty handy (though not for free ;-( )

I would say that if Chaosium is picking up the tab for the art, then, getting some is just icing on the cake, but the text should be your main effort.

Also, as far as playtesting goes...get 2 to 3 groups going independently, they have a tendency to...slow down as time progresses.

If you know how to work with Photoshop, I would go with Flying Mice, LLC's way of doing art for a rpg, which I believe is just photos of people layered on a background and the Smudge tool is used. Personally, I really, really like their art. And I think it would be a great way to generate very good art cheap (of course you would have to pay $600+ for Adobe Photoshop if your planning to use it to make money with it).

I was just reading over the description of this setting again... I hadn't noticed the potential Scooby Doo angle.

Is there some in-game reason for the members of the organization to be kids? Would there be any big difference if someone wanted to play crusty old folks instead?
