  1. Just out of curiosity (and since I'm browsing new BRP games again) - what has happened to this? I kind of like what I've read in this sub-forum ..
  2. This might be straying a little of topic, but that sounds interesting ... is this going to be a new edition of OpenQuest? Or is it mabe tied to this? Just asking because I'm still kind of looking for that perfect BRP version for me ... at the moment, it is OpenQuest with some Renaissance mixed in (expecially like their take of hit locations), and some Mythras for further inspiration on culture types and life events. But a BRP with greater stat influence sounds definitely like something that's worth a look,
  3. As one of the guys from that german forum, I can second that! C&C might actually be the next game in our group after our soon to be finished Numenera campaign, and our GM would certainly be even more willing if she knew that the last segment of the K&C campain will be out in the forseeable future.
  4. Sorry for the weird double-post - I tried to quote Rick, but couldn't write outside of the quite, couldn't get the quote out of my reply ... so I had to submit and write a new post. Anyway, about the likelihood if people being confused by finding multiple editions on the shelves: Actually, that is exactly what will happen here in Germany, were we have a German translation of RQ6 as RuneQuest - an I'll probably also order Chaosium's new RuneQuest and Mythras. So it is going to be pretty hard to explain that the German edition of RuneQuest ist not the translation of RuneQuest, but of Mythras ... I would have preferred consecutive edition numbers (with this being RQ7), also to acknowledge everything that has come before. To me, it feels like Chaosium is saying: "The Mongoose and DM versions were not true RQ." It just doesn't feel quite right.
  5. As someone who has a long history with BRP (mainly stormbringer and CoC), but never really got into Glorantha, I really like the idea of getting into the setting by means of a lifepath character creation. I own the big, two-volume Guide to Glorantha, but it doesn't really help getting into the setting from an rpg perspective ... it may be a great work of fictional mythology, but offers little entry points for the uninitiated. Having a new RQ tied to Glorantha is pretty much the one thing that really keeps me interested in this new edition; rules-wise, I'm happy with picking and choosing from RQ6, OpenQuest and Renaissance, but having an RPG with Glorantha as an in-built setting that, hopefully, will show me how to use this setting in an actual game ... I really hope this new RQ will work for me; I like most of what I'm reading (no zero-to-hero, lifepath creation, runes as character traits).
  6. I think I'll go with your solution of restricting Battle Magic. Of course, more powerful enemies are always an option, but frankly, that's not the playing style I'm looking for in a BRP game.
  7. Recently, I played "Dead Pot Country" from Life & Death as a one-shot - my first real contact with OpenQuest. I quite liked it - the setting provides lots of ideas, but is still very open to interpretation and expansion; and the first two scenarios (haven't read the last one yet) are very open-ended and quite easy to run, thanks to their clear presentation. Two things bug me - the many typos/mistakes and some setting elements that would have warranted an explanation - most importantly, on what did the cities survive during the age of isolation (that's the first question I've asked myself readind L&D, and it was actuall the first question one of the players asked about the setting when I introduced it). Nevertheless, one of the coolest setting books in my collection, and definitely one I will be recommending!
  8. Hm, even given all that, it seems like a pretty big thing if a spell nearly doubles the to-hit/parry chance of a fighter for a whole combat - and if the characters have a few rounds to prepare (like when they are seeing a horde of zombies shambling closer), it is really not that difficult to manage casting one spell... I don't get the reference about the lowered spell resistance, however - I'll have to read up on this. Anyway, I never really played any of the systems where items give you huge bonuses (and never really liked the concept ...). So to me, this seems pretty powerful - still, not a gamebreaker, and if I continue disliking this element, it is easy to houserule (making Weapen Enhance 2 spells, for example, one enhancing the skill, the other one the damage, or doubling its cost ...).
  9. Hi folks, I'm kind of back to the BRP familiy - I played a lot of Stormbringer and CoC back in the 80s/90s and kind of lost sight of the systems family ... I've been reading RQ/Mythras stuff for a while now to get back into it, but don't have the time (or the players) to really get into such an extensive rules set, so I thought I might give OpenQuest a spin. Did that a few days ago with the wonderful "Life & Death" setting and a one-shot adventure with the pregens it provides. The system worked pretty well for me, but one thing surprised me: Battle Magic seemed to be awfully powerful in combat, especially Multi-Missile and Weapon Enhance. One of the pregens had it with magnitude 4, which meant that he fought pretty much any fight with an attack of 90% (+40) and +4 magical damage. (He still died, succumbed to a critical hit from a ghoul queen, but he did a heck of a lot of damage before that!). In the long run, this seems a little overpowered ... did I miss something in the rules? Or ist this simply intended this way?
