  1. As I said, Rakuten/PriceMinister has various levels of prices, with both english and french editions (and sometimes sellers from US and UK). There's also Ludospherik: it's a french site, but it has also sometimes english editions. Good Luck!!!
  2. Yes, I also frequently see some crazy offers, with books > 100$, even when they are still available at regular prices on Chaosium's website (HQ3...)!!! Generally when sellers see that these books will be soon off sale... And that's the case with many RPGs unfortunately: french HW edition, Amber Diceless RPG, Thoan, vintage D&D... Same problem here with original french productions like Bitume or Bloodlust, that are not even available in regular PDFs!!!! I only see two ways reacting to this: buying regular/legal PDFs when available (Chaosium, DriveThru...). It's generally cheap, and the money goes finally to the creators! survey private offers hoping that I finally find decent prices. You have to be patient, but it's really working! Over the years, I was able to build a quite decent RPG collection (mainly Chaosium products). Just have to be patient and resolute... It's of course a matter of personal resources, but for me there's no way to spend more in a book than its regular price. I'm not Rotschild nor the Red Emperor... unfortunately... 😁
  3. At last, I made a "big" DriveThru order, including Valley of Plenty (PDF + print copy). Thanks to my wife (birthday present)! Just skimmed the PDF, and can't wait my print copy. At least 3 weeks delay for delivery in France! Arrrghhh!
  4. You can also try Amazon: I found several HW books (Storm Tribe, Thunder Rebels...) for less than 15$ each, in very good condition. Here in France, I also bought some on PriceMinister (now a property of Rakuten). I do agree with Jajagappa and Akhôrahil: for lore, do prefer Eleven Lights, Coming Storm, Sartar Kingdom of Heroes, Thunder Rebels, Storm Tribe. Then, if one day you're willing to try running a HW/HQ campaign, even with HQ3 core rules, Thunder Rebels and Storm Tribe will still be essential...
  5. I heard this many times, indeed, but saw it only a few times, as a player and as a keeper. As a CoC keeper, I ran many CoC campaigns (Masks, The Mountains of Madness, Realms of Shadows...), and I always tried to translate Lovecraft spirit if not the "letter". Then, in Lovecraft stories, the main characters usually survive - it's so much awful to remember the truth than dying... I think there's a balance to find there. In my campaigns/one-shots, only a few circumstances ended in the death of investigators: one-shot scenarios made especially for that with pre-gens characters. Fun from times to times, but do not abuse!!! real real bad decision of a player, who kind of forgot he's playing CoC, like attacking directly Nyrarlathotep's manifestation in the Kenya chapter of the Masks (and not after a failed SAN check, I must precise). Honestly, I saw that only one time!!! one (or several) player(s)' decision to kill another. Example: at the end of the Mountains of Madness, the party abandoned one investigator on the ice floe because of his homicid madness, and after that, another one in the german zeppelin when they blew it away (and they DID remember their fellow investigator was still there!!!). Then it was their only chance to overcome the Germans, and it was the very last session of the campaign... And I never killed an investigator for just a failed check, even a fumble. Mutilations and madness are far more fun (and then I have no mercy!!!)... 😁
  6. Thanks! And does your own misfits-bunch survive your mischievous plans???
  7. The Humakti is a former GM for RQ, The Issaries played RQ a long time ago, and none of them knew nothing about HQ. The four others never even heard about Glorantha ! I had to clear away the deadwood from Red Cow setting and creation elements (occupational keywords, cults/sub-cults...) with quite a few posts on my gaming club's forum (good way to immerse myself in the universe again)... 😎
  8. Pity. I'm still playing HQG... But I can understand the economic reasons... Then, I console myself because 1/ the Jonstown Compendiums, with QW licence, will maybe still publish HQ material. 2/ as many said in this thread, it's so easy to convert RQ to HQ... I'm wondering: will Chaosium continue publishing Glorantha material without any system stuff (GS' King of Sartar, Glorantha Sourcebook...) ? I'm fond of this kind of books, if only for reading entertainment...
  9. Finally, I'll have my first session on september 5th! Everyone here was on holiday or on business/work site trip... So I managed an online creation (posts and mails), and all my players chose the old HeroWars text-writing creation way. Wonderful time, and I must say I have very creative players!!! Then, I have a hell of misfits for party: 1 Humakti, 1 Issaries, 1 Orlanth adventurous, 1 Yinkin, 1 Babeester Gor... and 1 Eurmali and 1 Valind !!!!! "Trouble-makers again" is already reacting Broddi... 🤨 For those who are wondering, the Eurmali will be of course bonded. And yes, I allowed a Valind adept (a stickpicker and the village idiot...), because his background was so much creative, and very clan-oriented after all... Of course, when the Great Winter will occur, I already planned the lynch mob scene... 🥶 Can't wait this first session! And I really really hope I will be equal to my players' creativity and to Glorantha's richness!
  10. Hi, Yamsur. I'm in Mulhouse and I'd be glad to welcome you!
  11. Oh... sorry for "demanding" (french mistake)... it's certainly a too strong word... 😕 I'd just like more "narrative" screens (with just one or two columns, no more, with the essential rules). This said, I do agree with you about the interests of an entirely customizable home-made screen, that's why I'm working on a 4-panels for HQ. Still, who knows? I'm sure Chaosium's artists could make a wonderful HQ Glorantha screen!! And thanks for the Uz taunts idea, I keep it (and probably add Durulz puns...) !!! 😁
  12. I wonder... Is there any chance to see one of these days a GM screen suitable for HeroQuest? WIth a great original landscape from Loïc Muzy or Jon Hodgson??? I have my old HeroWars french screen (Multisim), and I love it, but I want to change the view for my players (!!!). 😉 More, through the years, I'm becoming more and more demanding with the GM side (less rules and more narrative stuff, like a map, a table of the runes, Eurmal's top 5 jokes...). So I'm currently working on a homemade screen (maybe I will present it on a post when it'll be finished), but I'm realistic: it would never match a real Chaosium product. 🙁 And if it is the opportunity to see more excellent gloranthan art (and not just extracts from the books), then great, where is my debit card??? 😵
  13. So I ran one last Astounding Adventures online last night... Since I had done the three book's scenarios, I chose to slip onto Pulp Cthulhu, with its core book scenario The desintegrator. Three players (two veterans, one beginner), very good atmosphere, good PCs involvement... The Desintegrator is a very nice one, really, and we all had a very good time. SPOILER ALERT! And then all the fiends were revealed. When the players had to face a proto-shoggoth on the one hand and some fungi on the other hand, they all suddenly lost their nerves both with their initiative. They became totally passive and quickly decided to deal with Mr Sleep and obey him!!! Yet I had prepare them. Yet one of my players soon understood they were playing some Cthulhu stuff. Yet they were two veterans. Yet one of them soon suggested to destroy the desintegrator (but even him decided to abandon this idea). When they were walking with Mr Sleep, carrying the device, I added more details, triggered many warnings... Nothing to do. It had to be a TPK. So be it. 💀 Still, it was a good TPK scene and my players enjoyed it (phew!). When they entered the crevasse with Mr Sleep, I stopped the roleplaying and had to improvise with an outer point of view. "The world never heard from you again" and that kind of stuff. Like if I was reading a press review. I never mentioned their obvious dead. And they really enjoyed it (phew! again...). ☺️ This scenario gave me, as a GM, the opportunity to deal with some improvisation I never had to make before: switching the points of view in such a way, and choosing not to describe the final scene at all. It preserved the atmosphere right to the session end and even a little beyond (when we were chating after playing). Funny nota: it's my 4th TPK, and all four occured in a Mythos environment (on in Delta Green, two in CoC, one here in Pulp Cthulhu). Then, you will laugh, it's only the second I have to manage as a GM. The two others? I was a player, of course, and I must confess both of them were entirely my personal fault (a fumble on a hand grenade throwing, and the intentional sacrifice of my fellow players to invoke Shub-Niggurath). With this one, at least, I'm making equal... 😁 Last point: slipping from Astounding Adventures onto Pulp Cthulhu was still a good idea, and even with a TPK my players really liked it. And this scenario provides very good atmosphere as well as some typical pulp stuff (the device itself). Be sure I'm not done with these two RPGs...
  14. I also read some stuff about Durulz pirates of the Heort Creek in The Coming Storm. You could also imagine the character to be one of their inland contacts whose task is discretly fencing the loots in your players' village... But it means less personal implication than the refugee pitch... and it doesn't fit with an Humakti profile. And beware: the only player who played a Durulz in the campaigns I played (I wasn't GM) also played a duck in Cobra Space Adventures RPG (excellent one, by the way). In both cases, it added much fun (he's a great roleplayer), but in both cases, he really pissed us (and our GM) off !!! Nevertheless, I remember really great scenes. ...and I'm still admiring my GM's patience... 🥰
  15. Remember that the Durulz (at least some of them) were part of Starbrow's rebellion. It could be a good character implication for your player : his duck's parents (or one of them) were slaughter by Lunar when Starbrow's rebellion failed (or during the Duck Hunt), and he and his surviving relatives were given refuge by the Colymars. Do not forget Humakt is also part of the Storm pantheon... And as wrote Shakespeare : - What ? A rat ! - F***! A duck! Sorry, I'm leaving the room... 😕
  16. I'm anxious to read what will happened next in your campaign! Wish you lots of fun!!!!
  17. That's exactly it! I must confess that in this kind of situation, I tend to "follow the events" (in this case, my player's actions...). And in the end, my ghoulish player willingly became my accomplice and we openly discussed about his character's "ending" together, according to his own aspirations. This campaign went to an end, but several investigators are still "alive". At this point, if I had to run these characters again, I would stage a discreet and progressive retirement of the ghoulish character, maybe acting from time to time in the shadows... But he's a ghoul, not a deep one! Maybe your player will accept his new condition with pleasure (like mine)? Or maybe he would like to become aware of the horror of this situation and stage some heroic sacrifice? Anyway, I think you should follow your player's wishes and take advantage of these in your campaign? And of course, if he wants to join his new brethren, the other investigators should assist something much more dramatic (maybe let your deep one player describe himself the scene - after briefing together - to emphase the dramatic effect???). I'm curious to read what option you will choose !!!☺️
  18. Sorry, I don't even see the error(s)! 😁 French is not only a nationality, it's also a bad excuse... 😉
  19. I DO convert! 😁 Amazing job, that's all. (...and by the way, amazing first name.. 😉)
  20. Agree with you about the difference between the Lunar and Roman empires. This said, whether you want to destroy your opponents' gods to make yours one and only (at least in the Middle Air), or you believe yours is still the one and only, the difference is just a matter of time: the Christian god IS the one and only / the Red Goddess WILL BE the one and only. And this is even more simple for worshippers: kill Orlanth's unconvertible whorshippers, whether it weakens their god or they are foolish beyond redemption... Anyway, just frag 'em all!!! (Sorry, I love this kind of academic discussion... 😊 )
  21. Hi! I don't know this campaign, but I had a similar situation when I was running Pagan Publishing's The Realm of Shadows (great ghoul campaign). One of my investigators began to become a ghoul!!! I introduced new physical traits very slowly (like an insidious and vicious illness). Each time the player couldn't join the session, I related his absence to his "ghoulish" problem, and the other players began to understand something was going wrong, but they didn't know what. At the same time, the ghoulish character was discovering opposite factions of ghouls and was struggling with indecent, obsessional and less-than-human "ghoulish politics and schedules" (great time for wild creativity!!!). In the end, I had a ruined investigator who tried to put secretly spokes in the other PCs' wheels and to gradually Mythos-perverting them. I must say the player was a CoC veteran who played this with perfection! (Thank you, Vincent!) The best thing was the climate of distrust and suspicion between him and his fellows, and after a while even among the other investigators!!! I know it depends on your group of players, but maybe you could try such an approach? I had to work more on my campaign (solo sessions for the ghoul-investigator, building a realistic ghoulish society that wouldn't become excessive or caricatural...), but I never regreted it! And I even could run my campaign right to the end... And the more important: afterwards, all my players told me they had a wonderful gaming time. (This time, thanks to all: JB, JC, Nico & Séb!!!)
  22. ...just to carry on with my previous reply... I said I saw the Lunars pretty much like the Early Roman Empire, when it was still paganist. We could keep up by saying that when the Roman Empire adopted Christianism as official religion, it became much less tolerant towards pagan cults of its provinces (these cults were all forbidden, while even with the previous imperial cult, all cults were allowed as long as they didn't disrupt the Empire's peace and order). In practice, we do know (texts, archaeological discoveries) it depended on the local authorities. In Sartar, we could easily imagine a Lunar clergy and some of the military command (Tatius the Bright) totally fanatical and hostile towards Orlanth's worshipping. In the other hand, we could meet Lunar officers more indifferent to religious matters, as long as the peace of the Empire is respected/preserved. Of course, these "tolerant" Lunars would be more present among less in-sight officers and sub-officers... and they wouldn't openly disobey their command anyway!!!
  23. In this matter, I see the Lunar Empire much similar to the Roman Early Empire, when it was still paganist: it is better to agregate / absorb peacefully conquered people. As long as the Orlanthi do not oppose the Empire; they can worship anygod they want. Massive religious conversion needs more time, the Lunars are certainly aware of that - and it's the business pf the missionaries, not the garrison ! For Orlanth's cult, its a bit different. As a source of trouble, a call to revolt, it is forbidden (as was Christianity by the Romans at first). Shrines and temples are destroyed. But the Lunars are too good politics: they do know there must be an "exhaust valve", or the whole thing can explode to their face. So they turn a blind eye to little worshipping, as long as it is discreet and not causing massive meetings and troubles.
  24. About this White Bull campaign... Is there any chance, in the end, to have it published either as book or as a Cult of Chaos scenario (or just a short campaign script)?
