g33k
Presumably, this is a "trivial" thing for Thanatari to do: they steal the Lunar secrets just as they steal the various Special Rune Magics from various Cults. What about a Shaman? In principle, it looks likely to me that there are Lunar spirits who could teach the secret Lunar skills of Spirit-Magic spell-manipulation... or who could be spiritually-mugged to get such skills. The Shaman may need to be Illuminated in order to understand... and/or exposure to these skills may grant (inflict?) an immediate roll to become Illuminated. Obviously, "YGWV" and "MGF" are the ruling factors here. But: does "canon" (or do the Gloranthan Dev team) offer a definitive answer? TYVMia! Nick Brooke
The Red Goddess’s cult writeup says, “Lunar magic was created by the Red Goddess and cannot be used by anyone except her initiates.” (Cults of RuneQuest: The Lunar Way, p.124). So if your Thanatari or Shaman is an initiate of the Red Goddess, they can use Lunar magic; if they aren’t, they can’t. I think you know the requirements to initiate: first, be an Illuminate and a Priest or Lord of a Lunar cult; then, “Convince the Examiners”; finally, sacrifice one POW as usual. metcalph
The Lunar magic skills are not learned from spirits as I understand it but proceed from understanding Lunar mysteries A.k.a illumination.
metcalph
A Thanatari could achieve back-door access to Lunar Magics if he were to acquire the head of a Lunar Examiner and use that to teach him the Lunar Way. But becoming Illuminated via riddles is far too slow and any known Madness spells will be one-use.

Or just get the head to cast the magic.
