Newt
I've done the whole pushing things back 6 months, and then another 6 months, and then a year etc, and that's how the book is 4 years on from it being promised as a KS backer addon (and a small group of about 15 people paying for it) and three years from when I could have reasonably delivered it. John's got no spare time to work on it, and I'm busy with other stuff. As I said it was a tough decision. I'd rather see it come out with Binary Deep myself, but its simply not in a shape to publish. The whole thing is what they call in project management-speak a "blocker" on the whole River of Heaven line. Without the Companion is out there's no way in good consciousness that I release anything else for the game. Previous purchasers of the modules Last Witness/Message from Furthermost will get a 25% discount on To the Stars. 1 Quote Head Honcho of D101 GamesPublisher of Crypts and Things/Monkey/OpenQuest/River of HeavenThe Sorcerer Under the Mountain
ORtrail
Okay, my next suggestion was going to be that you ask Marcus Bone about using his fan adventure. Plus throw in that demo adventure you talked about. The discount helps, I don't mind seeing PDF adventures in quality print form, and I get the concern for fulfilling all the Kickstarter stretch goals. Being in software development, I was taught that you get two out of Time/Money/Features, but never ALL THREE. Of course, I was also taught that deadlines make a cool noise as they pass by.
Newt
I'm in contact with Marcus and he's finishing off his adventure - but its still a work in progress. If we are going to use software development terms (I used to be a software developer, before I went full time with D101/stay at home carer last year) it also firmly falls outside of the scope of the project :D 1 Quote Head Honcho of D101 GamesPublisher of Crypts and Things/Monkey/OpenQuest/River of HeavenThe Sorcerer Under the Mountain
ORtrail
Stretch goals = scope creep. Anything after the first 2-3 anyway. Is the plan to have a series of RoH Companion books? New rules, more background material, and adventures in one book is a powerful combination, IMHO.

I say that as I find its the little things that always block my mental efforts to get things completed (that and a fear of failure :P). I say - get the Companion out and then on to bigger and better things Marcus Quote Stormbringer! - Exploring the worlds of the Eternal Champion at http://www.stormbringerrpg.com Unbound Publishing - Bringing back the fear - http://www.unboundbook.org DCtRPG.info - Supporting Dark Conspiracy across the decades - http://www.darkconspiracytherpg.com

Marcus Bone
Funnily enough I was just thinking about it. The fantastic (and I can't state that loud enough) SlipDrive: River of Heaven soundtrack just passed through my playlist (its on Spotify BTW) and it got me thinking about finishing up the scenario. Typically, its just needing a good edit and tidy up - the bit I hate the most with writing! Maybe the Christmas break will see me with enough time to get it done? ORtrail
I'm looking at 11 straight days off starting this coming weekend, with no big travel plans, so I'll be gaming (video and table top) quite a bit. I'd be happy to read it over and provide some feedback.
Newt
After a long stretch in cryo-stasis the River of Heaven Companion, To the Stars, is now in final layout check. This means that it will be available for pre-order with the next couple of weeks (mid-Jan) and on general release at end of the month/early Feb. Here are some preview page layout straight from the pages of the Pdf. 5 Quote Head Honcho of D101 GamesPublisher of Crypts and Things/Monkey/OpenQuest/River of HeavenThe Sorcerer Under the Mountain
tobarstep
I'm pretty excited for this. The "Finding Your Way" section sounds like a good idea.
ORtrail
Yes, the appeal of River of Heaven to me was the more hard sci-fi approach. Sadly, that has less appeal to my gaming group than adventuring in a galaxy far, far away. Or a five year mission to seek out new life and new civilizations. Selling players on a known setting is always easier though. Anyway, good to see things are progressing on the RoH Companion book, I look forward to reading it. Marchand
Hi Newt, Kickstarter backer here. Five years go quickly! Should I be expecting a copy of the Companion sometime? If hardcopy I will need to inform you of a change of address. Cheers

Conrad
Is it only available through the D101 webstore, or are FLGS stocking it? 😁 Quote http://www.basicrps.com/core/BRP_quick_start.pdf A sense of humour and an imagination go a long way in roleplaying.
