  1. Restore Magic- It says "For each Restore Magic cast" and then later says you can only have one Restore Magic spell at a time. It is also listed as Stackable but there is nothing that says what additional points do. Perhaps that is supposed to read "For each Rune point spent"? Restore Health- Out of alphabetical order. Restore Mind- Out of alphabetical order. Stackable or Nonstackable? Ride River Horse- An extra "only" in the first sentence. Sanctify- Specify the earth cult cube size, since it has no radius. Shape Metal- Does this work on Adamantine? Speak with Horse- Should be "talk with a" in first sentence. Spell Trading- In the example Biturian seems to be rolling against his rune instead of the 1-95 that the spell requires. Stones to Kill Chaos- An extra these in the 5th sentence. Summon Ghost- I assume the caster will know what the Fourth Hell is from GoG? Summon Guardian of Thanatar- ditto above with Place of Waiting. Summon Luxite- A brief description would be good, if not in GoG. Okay, in the home stretch!
  2. The codex was still over 1,000 years away at the end of the western bronze age. Scrolls made from different kinds of things were known, but most things were written on clay plates using cuneiform. So this is one where you should just go with what you want. Cuneiform, papyrus, vellum, codex. Glorantha is much more literate than earth was, so if you want them much more advanced in the tools of literacy, go for it!
  3. Enchant Instrument- I assume "mutual harmony" means that the two instruments will play the same notes at the same time? Fertilize- Does this cancel Blast Earth? Flash Flood- Most stackable spells with a base cost of 2+ state that the stacking effect is per additional rune point. Does the 4 point stacking limit mean that only 1 additional point can be added to the original 3 or that 4 additional points can be added? Flood (River God variant)- Only works on The Creek and not other riverways/cults? Ghost Dart- Stackable or Nonstackable? Glowspot- Should this be lune instead of chaos rune? Golden Fleece- Stackable or Nonstackable? Heat Blast- I don't understand stacking with multiple points of divine intervention. Increase Temperature- Should this have darkness rune? Keenclaw- Confirming that this is supposed to be DEXx6 instead of the usual DEXx5 for such weapons. Know Lineage- Two versions with the Knowledge spell listed between them. Should be together and (Kero Fin) and (Pamalt) versions, I guess? Morale- Does not have stasis rune in RQG book. Peace- This should probably say whether it requires a POW vs. POW roll. Pregnancy- Specify whether this works on males (in print now or over and over and over on forums). I'll pick this up with the R's later.
  4. Call Monster- I assume excluding CHA was intentional? Call on Stars- This refers to "common spirit magic spells", this is differentiated from the "special spirit magic spells" listed on page 107? (edited from original comment) Call Shanasse- paragraph 2, sentence 1, should be "accept" instead of "accepts" Chaos Feature- The first paragraph implies that the spell is cast on self: "At the instant that the caster sacrifices Rune points for this spell, they are marked"; the second paragraph mentions "the target" of the spell; and the last paragraph gives rules with casting it on "beings of Chaos" without defining that. Clairvoyance- Range should be listed as 5 km, as in the RQG book. Consume Mind- This is a little unclear: "The skill values are considered ‘as-is’ without needing to determine the skill category modifiers." If it is saying what I think it is saying, I suggest: "Caster gets the targets skill levels, including their skill category modifiers, but does not add their own modifiers." Control Flood- No duration listed. Crack- Most stackable spells that are base higher than one specify that the added effects result from each additional rune point (not two additional, the base cost). Create Whirlvish- Add bestiary page, as in other spells. Cyclical (Characteristic)- Is the normal, unstacked duration 15 minutes? Dead Place Ferry- Should refer to "the Dead Place" instead of "a Dead Place"? (edited from original comment) I'll take up with the E's later.
  5. 20L/point for someone to cast a rune spell for you, 200L/point if it is one-use. So extrapolating that 200L for each point of power expended in construction.
  6. General note: Some spells use radius and others diameter. Consistency there would be good. Accelerate Growth- If it does not work on an Aldryami, it needs to say that. Agony- Can the caster break the spell or are they both writhing for 15 minutes? Alter Spirit of Disease - 2nd sentence should be lose and begin instead of loses and begins. Asrelia's Cavern- It creates a cube but additional points increases the radius. Attract Attention- Change last word to defend if they can also dodge. Awaken Loon- In the Giant Loon example, close the parenthesis after Land. Ban- Duration (special). Bear Fruit- Stackable but doesn't say what effect stacking has. Bind Ghost- Spell out of alphabetical order. Bless Animals- Should be "the target beast" instead of "each beast so blessed" since it only affects one beast. Bless Thunderstone- 2nd paragraph, 2nd sentence, remove the word "like". I'll start with the Cs in the morning.
  7. A suggestion, not a correction: It would be great if, with the pdf, you included a pdf of an up to date rune spell list in the format of the list that was in the reference booklet that came in the boxed set!
  8. Do you have magical items available for purchase in your game? Does Sora Goodsell have matrices or even crystals for sale in her Clearwine shop? How much would a normal broadsword with a Bladesharp 2 matrix cost? How much per point for a power storage crystal? How about commissioning items? How difficult would it be to find a priest that would make a matrix for a player? Or to create a Binding Enchantment item? Do you charge the 200L per power point used, as per the rules?
  9. A trick to get you to "speak canon." Movement is the rune of change, it is what makes Orlanth an agent of change. The Trickster theory school of anthropology on which Stafford based Eurmal believes that tricksters are the source of change, they are used to explain most changes in ancient societies as the gods tend to be highly devoted to the status quo (short version, obviously). I think it works with him but YGMV. In fact, one could make a good argument that Eurmal is just the change aspect of Orlanth. If one wanted to try and out-Eurmal Eurmal.
  10. Not intentionally, but Tricksters are necessary for progress in some mythologies. There are many Trickster myths where the Trickster ends up bringing something positive through their tricks. Often they trick the gods into sharing something with people, like fire. Not that I am actually suggesting that Sartar was an Eurmali. See the church lady joke.
  11. Not any more. Eurmal has illusion, disorder, and movement in RQG. With movement's relationship to change and Eurmal's origins in Trickster theory, it seems necessary.
  12. Hmmm, and I think there is another god that has the Movement rune, that is often seen as necessary to bring about big and quick changes, that would get a kick out of turning people into insects, that would work with odd creatures such as Telmori and Durulz, that lets others do its violence for it. Could it be...I don't know...EURMAL?! /church lady voice
  13. Honestly, this is something that I don't want. I see all this knowledge of the future to be fun for people interested in Glorantha but a problem for those playing Runequest. I would much rather they just laid out the situation in 1625 in great detail and then tell the players "GO!" Let the players decide the future, don't try and squeeze them into a pre-determined one. Each campaign will go where it wants to go, will have whatever Argrath(s) they want, and the players will become the heroes. That, to my mind, is MGF.
  14. Perhaps no banish so much as pacify? She is Ernalda to his Orlanth.
  15. @Akhôrahil's comments bring something else to mind. The difference between Argrath and Harrek and heroes like Kallyr, Broyan, Samastina, etc. is that the former seem to have the power without the responsibility that comes with it. There are no consequences for their actions, no matter what they are. Orlanth's laws are broken? So what. People are killed? Okay. TONS of people are killed? Tons of okay. It is easy to be famous for your actions when there is no possibility of negative consequences for them. If Argrath had to temper his actions to the political reality (e.g. keeping tribes happy) or had run into the same resistance that the EWF did, it would be a much more interesting and believable story. As it is, he seems like just a counter in a boardgame that only has to worry about movement and combat.
  16. I think this is completely a player and not a character issue. Argrath is scary but get results and the latter trumps the former for the populace. In the words of Patton (or at least the movie), he may be a bastard but he is their bastard! Reasons why players and characters wouldn't care for him: Players: Argrath is a liberator from the time he was written, the Cold War. He is the leader that will do whatever it takes to eliminate the great satan, the Lunar Empire, and whoever he has to ally or whatever non-Sartarite collateral damage occurs in this pursuit is immaterial. This is no longer as popular an ideal for a leader as it was 30 years ago. In-game: Argrath is an amalgamation of many things that many people hate: He is illuminated, like the Lunar leader that he is opposing. If you hate illuminates and/or equate them with chaos-lovers, then you may hate him. He has and uses draconic influences. A vast majority of his followers fear dragons, for good reasons. He is equated with Arkat, and a lot of people hate/fear Arkat. He openly allies with those who have no interest in the Orlanthi culture's code of honor. He gradually shifts his part of Glorantha from a polytheistic religious culture rooted in community to an atheistic sorcerous one rooted in the individual. As slow as this is, it is not going to set well with the the traditionalists (see EWF).
  17. I guess I was making too much of Jeff's comment that the Swan River is actually just a wet-weather stream.
  18. Yes, there is a well. But that is not going to be enough for a village dependent on agriculture with a busy inn and a famous temple with baths. The rainfall in Dragon Pass would be sufficient for orchards and many crops, but not for the drinking needs of people and livestock. They need to be near a water source and none is on the map. Jeff has said that the Swan River is only a wet weather stream, so it is safe to assume there are not year-round water sources feeding into it. Keep in mind that while the village of Apple Lane map is small, it is supplied by 25 tenant farmers spread over ca. 50 sq km. So, that is not viable with what I and my players want to do with it. In my game Swan River is an actual river, though not at all wide and only deep enough for flatbottom and very shallow boats. Being in a valley it is fed from all directions including from the Colymar Wilds and Starfire Ridges from the South, allowing for there to be Hiording villages in that area. As much as I would like to, I'm not putting a natural stream through there since there is none on the map but I am putting them to the East and West of Apple Lane, one winding to cover the north of it also, with the orchards and tenant farmers located in those areas. I will likely take a page out of the JC's "Throat of Winter" to create a stream on the Apple Lane map at some point in the future. Meanwhile, a spring (hot or not) that the Ulerian Temple was built to take advantage of solves part of the problem.
  19. I think the number I came up with was ca. 60 people, including children. Most in the 25 tenant farmer households scattered outside the village. I have Squinch manage the lands held by Hendroste, Aileena, and Kareena. One of the players has become Weaponmaster and Squinch is managing those also. He keeps 10% of the profits from them (though some of that goes back into the village). The PC Thane was a Noble so started with Manage Household. It has been right at a year since they were introduced to Apple Lane and they have just come into some money that they can use to put some of their plans in place. To me, the biggest limit to developing Apple Lane is the lack of water! Who builds a village in this area without even so much as a stream? Especially with baths in the Ulerian Temple! The Thane is an Engizi with a good relationship with the dryad of Swan River (which is actually a river in my game), so there may one day be a heroquest along those lines. Though I may just put a spring there. As far as enemies and rivals, the Orlevings from the Sakkar adventure very much dislike them. They have just pissed off the Orlanth High Priest in Jonstown. The tusk riders they defeated to defend Apple Lane were just part of the ones in Pig Hollow, including a Rune Lord. Important elements of the Lysang suspect them of things. And, as they are all Hiording, their rivals in Taraling and Orlmarth. Allies include the Hiording, they have impressed and helped the Varmandi, they have just turned over a valuable artifact to Leika, one of them is King of the Rainbow Mounds newtlings, and they have had positive meetings with the Anmangarn, Antorling, and Tarndisi. My players' goals right now are: One is courting Brightflower, bringing her back gifts from his travels. None of them are married yet. One is assisting Kareena in caring for the Orlanth shrine and spending a LOT of time in the Ulerian baths. Queen Leika wants to bring Lysang and Namolding back into the tribe and they are trying to organize joint patrols of Birne's Squeeze with them, the Hiording, and Antorlings to engage them. The PC weaponmaster recruited (short version) his brother and a friend of his to be part of those patrols. The Thane was resurrected and as payment is building a shrine/small hospital to Chalana Arroy in the Temple to All Deities as soon as he can recruit a healer. They are recruiting for a redsmith and planning on rebuilding the hut. In the long run they would like to find a blacksmith and are considering a quest to find Piku's son. They are planning to build a longhouse for all the non-farmers that they are trying to recruit. The Lhankor Mhy PC is trying to build a library, currently stored in the Thane's house. The Asst Shaman PC has made contact with a Suberiad in the hills to the ENE and they are contemplating the risks of allying her. They are looking to clear 3 hides of land for crops, then build huts and recruit farmers (I assume all the current tenant farmers are working in the orchards, mostly). This will lead to Colymar Wilds conflicts.
  20. There are a lot of issues with telling players (and GMs) about what is going to happen in the future. Not the least is the foreshadowing of calling him Argrath well before he has earned the title! King of Sartar is not quite a hagiography, but it certainly doesn't show him warts-and-all any more than early works on Alexander the Great showed how the sausage was made. There will be moments when players have to hold their nose to follow someone like the White Bull, but few Sartarites would compare him poorly to the Lunar Empire and success can paper over a whole lot! The fact that we already know what happens diminishes his successes. For those who go through the chaos and near helplessness of 1627 and really feel that the end is nigh, Argrath's successes look like miracles and not just events. There are elements of character creation that can ally players with the White Bull. Most groups are likely to have had a player at the Jaldon Goldentooth summoning in 1624 and come away with Loyalty to him, so they can lead the cheers in his direction as he takes power. And if your game credits him with forming the Eleven Lights then he deserves a good bit of credit for the Battle of Dangerford. They can point to his liberation of Pavis (and his defeat by Tatius is more forgettable because of the ensuing Dragonrise). Another factor is their leaders' opinion of him, since they aren't exactly on a 24/7 news cycle! If whatever leader they respect and trust likes or dislikes him, then that is going to be what they hear and is likely to rub off. How do people like Leika, Samastina, etc. feel about him? Admiration? Jealousy? Let's face it, between the memories of Starbrow's Rebellion and the failed heroquest he doesn't have a hard act to follow. Though most credit her with the Dragonrise.
  21. I'm not ready to assume that Orlaront wasn't involved. Vistera "made a pact to awaken the Dragons." With who or what? I think something like this would require a team (or alliance) of many powerful heroes and even calls into question whether the Inhuman King could have been involved.
  22. I assume that the 9 companions in King of Sartar plus Kallyr composed "the ten" mentioned in the story of the Dragonrise. Which of them besides Minaryth died there ("the ten were much reduced by the Red God")? Which of them died during the failed Lightbringer quest which Jar-Eel appeared in?
  23. Perhaps it was but Kallyr didn't know it? No one else present would have been able to understand Orlorant's conversation with the dragonkind, would they?
