  1. No don't be silly. Everybody knows there is no such thing as the gamers you describe.
  2. I'm cool with that. I mean anyone can raise a Doctor or Lawyer or President or something like that, but a werewolf - that is cool.
  3. Wow. I'd say so. Spring fever really comes on strong at your house I'd say. My daughter is the 25th itself, which is tough. My son is the 10th, so that is not so bad. I hope you soundly beat anyone who tries to give them combined birthday/christmas gifts - that is such a rook.
  4. Both of mine are December Birthdays too. A bad birthday month for both the parents and the kids. Damn you Christ...
  5. So there is hope. Thank you. Actually, I've been pretty fortunate with my two not really getting into things they are not supposed to. I did get a desk calender of Dragons for Christmas that I brought to work, only to be grilled by my 3 year old daughter "Where are the pictures of the dragons?" She was very upset with me and I had to bring it back home. After she's been through it a couple times it seems 2008 may be a bit shorter than I was expecting it to be.
  6. I gotta throw in with the films over the TV show - though it has been years since I've seen either. Excepting the recent re-make, which was just awful, and I generally like Tim Burton movies (I don't think I've ever said "Wow, that was a great movie" after watching a Tim Burton movie, but they all 'look' really cool, and typically I feel I was entertained - except for Planet of the Apes, which was a waste of a couple of hours of my life even if it did look cool).
  7. While clearly I was led to this by your previous post, the difference is you were proposing losing a single POW/MP for the roll, which when the average character has 10-11 allows for a lot of luck rolls - it's not like we're using MP to power speedslug or bowiesharp spells. The difference is using a d20 and losing MP equal to the roll of the die, which is going to limit the use of the mechanic. If you want more cinematic heroes use a d10. But yes, very similar to what you said and clearly inspired by it.
  8. Since MP have no other reason in a (non - supernatural) western you could use them as a form of luck points. I think a mechanic similiar to RQ Divine Intervention might work. Roll a d20 and if it is less than your MP you get a re-roll or convert a hit to a miss or whatnot, and lose MP equal to the roll. For even more cinematic games use a d10 instead. MP could come back once a day, or once a week, or once a gunfight, or whatever the GM thinks is right based on how much he wants to encourage gunfighting. Though personally I don't mind a really deadly western game. It encourages roleplay and outsmarting your enemies and ambushes and shooting people in the back.
  9. Oh, when I had some ordering fiasco when their new store went up a few months back, and had two orders pending payment in the system (there was no way for me to cancel the orders once they'd passed me off to paypal for payment and I was having coupon hassles) I heard directly from Charlie wondering if I was still interested in the purchases pretty promptly. When I explained what happened and that I'd already completed my order on the third attempt he was also very prompt courteous in thanking me for my order etc. Dustin was great about resolving my coupon woes too. So I guess the moral is when there is a sale involved they are very capable with e-mail. Seriously though, the customer service was very good getting it all sorted. It's too bad the experience does not seem to be the same with general inquiries. Say what you want about their products, but I personally believe Mongoose's web availability is a big part of their success. Customers like feeling important when authors and owners respond to their web inquiries.
  10. Have you seen the Long Riders recently? It has a gritty feel for sure - until the gunplay starts. It is the epitome of over the top hollywood action - guns that never need reloading, taking a gazillion gunshots, jumping horses through windows. I more recent movie it reminds of is Heat, also very gritty and 'realistic' seeming until the gunplay starts, then it is over the top. That being said, Long Riders is one of my favorite Westerns, I was just a bit taken back when it was proposed as realistic western. Unforgiven is probably the best example I can think of from the movies. The Grey Fox is good too - though it is as much a drama as a western, and of course Deadwood for a series. Myself, I think the Spaghetti Western would be a fun genre to game. Gritty but still with some of the 'fun' tropes of the genre.
  11. How is Hi Ho! Cherry-O!? We've almost picked that up a couple of times - I think my daughter would like it.
  12. Other games I play right now: Candyland Chutes and Ladders Disney DVD Bingo (what can I say, I have small children)...
  13. I recall two High Fanatasy books. I had what I think was the first edition was 8 1/2 by 11 nad had a really bad (even for the day) cover painting, and was around 50-60 pages if I recall right. The (I think second) was a 6 x 9 book but considerably thicker in page count.
  14. If the source book does well do you see continuing to support the setting with supplements like detailed setting books(for a single planet or even region), scenarios, or a campaign?
  15. Just a thoughts for the western genre and the classic gun duel: 1) Perhaps some kind of Intimidation skill could be used, and give an advantage to the draw - many a western portrays the duel as being psychological as much as pure speed. 2) Maybe some kind of bidding mechanic would be cool for the draw. Each (hidden) bid point adds 1 to your Dex but gives -5% to the shot or something, also fits in with the flavor of the setting. There's probably a better bidding mechanic than the one I just described, but I think bidding would be cool for duels - again cajones counting as well as raw speed.
  16. Super Powers are absolutely in main core release.
  17. Yes! Whoever half imprisioned those green princesses in clothes was dastardly indeed. Not to fear though, they shall soon be freed! Seriously though, this sounds like a fun setting and I am looking forward to it.
  18. The sniggering thing is covered by the Pre-Marital Arts skill.
  19. Well my last post made feel kinda lazy and ashamed, so here is the cut and paste. From the MRQ board:
  20. Just been answered over at that other board. Me, I'm too lazy to cut and paste it over here.
  21. Wow. Your forum layout magic is strong. Do you know of any arcane secrets to move the forum jump above the quick reply window? That would be best of both worlds - still have quick reply and less scrolling to forum jump.
  22. Well we certainly have the core of a Western playgroup here. All that is holding us back is the lack of instantaneous transatlantic travel. (That and the lack of BRP rules so far...)
  23. Must we do it in that order? I'd just as soon save myself some time and move right on to the hate part. >:->
  24. Boot Hill was very deadly and great fun (I only played the 1st edition, but as I recall a head wound was automatically an 80% or 90% chance of death). I actually think BRP is better suited to representing 19th century firearms technology than modern firearms (with all the different types of ammunition and armors and autofire etc.). Great for a gritty western. Think Unforgiven or Deadwood.
