  1. Jar-eel helped break the Ban as an infant.
  2. That seems harsh - you were probably initiated at age 15-16, and start at 21. GM Fiat that you screwed up in your cult during that period doesn’t strike me as fair. What is absolutely fair though is to say ”sorry, there’s no current opening - impress us, though...” It’s like getting a job - meeting the bare formal minimum requirements really isn’t a guarantee.
  3. Ralzakark? He's Illuminated and basically the worst person in the world.
  4. The working translation for the Swedish edition is "Everyman" (because flesh and meat are the same word in Swedish, and "Meat Man" just wouldn't work).
  5. The craziest such effect is Maran’s earthquake spell, which combines free Magic point spending with a geometric increase in effect. It takes less than 50 MP to affect all of Glorantha. Not the most useful spell, perhaps, but the effect is absurdly powerful.
  6. "Lokamayadon (spit!)" is the full name.
  7. "regardless of movement, range (if it is within maximum missile range for the weapon), concealment, etc. " I would say the called shot counts for the "etc". It also makes sense - for a hunter, Sureshot is how you make sure to hit the animal in the right place to kill it quickly.
  8. We do agree that there is such a thing as "size of a spell" for dispelling purposes, surely, as well as for spell penetration purposes? Even if some stuff don't add to it? This is why sorcery, spirit magic and rune magic all share a system about dispelling and penetration - spell sizes are commensurable. So while you could argue that boosting a spell makes it bigger for penetration purposes but not for dispelling purposes (although one would then wonder where in the rules you find this distinction), I don't think you could argue that the size of a spell isn't a concept.
  9. "The next round Vasana decides to cast Demoralize, a 2-point spirit magic spell, on the same troll. This time she boosts the spell with 4 magic points, making it effectively a 6-point spell." This is the closest thing we have to a rule about boosting, and it clearly talks about the size of a spell. Similarly, for dispelling purposes, a Rune Spell is twice as "big" per point as a rune spell, and of course sorcery has the same notion.
  10. Lots and lots of them - since you get to resist anything that doesn't specify that you don't get to, almost all spells can be resisted. Slow, Lie and Peace are some examples off of the top of my head.
  11. It's still not just a variable spell, I think, because MPs spent for it behave in a way that's not how Spirit Magic works (MPs are lost on failed casting, which is how it works for Boosting but not for casting). Plus that it's dubious from a practical perspective that you need a giant 10pt spell in order to summon a very moderately sized spirit of 10 POW.
  12. Thanks, that settles it! I still don't think this answers the original question about Summon, though.
  13. It sounds plenty nasty as it is!
  14. Wait, that should never happen for PCs (you round to the PCs advantage). Where's that from? The rules are utterly explicit that 01 is always a crit!
  15. However, the rule is written as requiring active consent, and that's something you can emphatically not grant while you're unconscious. It's not crazy to run it that way though, especially for healing spells. If there is no possible downside to a spell, perhaps allow it automatically?
  16. It's super confusing that some spells call for a POW vs. POW roll while others don't, but the overarching rule is "POW vs. POW unless deliberately not resisted". Only spells which explicitly make an exception don't get POW vs. POW.
  17. I don't think this is true. Do you have a rules quote for it? (I mean, you can explicitly know the same spell at several different strengths - the rules say so, and it would be meaningless if you could just cast it at a lower strength - but I assume that you mean that you can deliberately "tune down" your spell, and I don't believe this is supported.)
  18. I completely agree with this. It doesn't have to be this way - it could have been written differently - but RQG text supports it.
  19. Well... except the Red Emperor (hey, he's Carmanian now, isn't that odd!) again and again... I can't remember who posited the Lunar Empire making contact with the Arrolians, and the latter going "Who the heck is that, that's not my Red Emperor, I know what he looks like!" when they see the current Red Emperor.
  20. I like this, especially since it's how Rune Magic Elemental Summoning works.
