  2. I think you could quite easily make something interesting about being pro-Lunar but anti-Lunar Empire, like wanting the local Lunars to get integrated into the Pavis Plan. It's hardly a stretch to decide that the Lunar Empire is an enemy of the Lunar Way, after all (as the White Moonies demonstrate).
  3. I very much believe the people who care about Pavis were glad to see him come and glad to see him leave.
  4. I think it makes sense to tie this into projects to restore the Praxian Green Age (which despite the name is in the Golden Age), by bringing back Genert or (more easily) Tada. Full harmony requires bringing everyone (non-Chaotic) into the tent, including trolls, Praxians, and remaining Lunars. This is probably harder than just beating them up. Pavis himself failed to integrate the trolls/Darkness, which might have set the whole thing up for failure. But the Hero Wars are here, and all things are possible...

  10. There's another giant risk here - even if the ransom exchange goes off without a hitch (which might well happen), the person they just released is under no obligation to shut up about them. So it's perfectly possible that the exchange goes fine, but now there's witnessing, identification, and people sent to hunt the PCs down like the rebels and troublemakers they are. This in turn could potentially be altered by getting an oath from the captive. Doubly so if backed up with an Oath spell. (Or in a perfect world, you could have a trickster in the party who gets some murdering done so the rest of you won't have to. 🙂 )
  11. It's almost true, though - what happens is that the knockback causes a disengage, which means you're free to run away (turning it into a chase instead if the other guy follows you) next turn.

  13. I don’t think this is necessarily true - it will be all about context. If you take bloody revenge on someone and your chief has to hand out a three-year outlawry for political reasons, which you spend looting the Rubble and return wealthier than you were, I don’t imagine your stint with outlawry will be held against you, and you will have earned reputation along the way.

I think the number one low-cost high-simplification rules change you can make is to allow just one combat action (cast a spell or attack) per round, and use SR purely as an initiative tracker and not also as an action economy. Say what you will about D&D, but the Standard/Move/Minor action economy there worked really well. I also ruled "one skill/rune/passion augment per scene, and only the fumbles differ" because of what people have already mentioned here, how the rules are almost but not quite the same and you constantly have to look up the small differences.
  16. Completely agree - the ability of BRP rules to fade into the background or be used loosely is very strong. For instance, full battles take so much time, I’ve taken to just making single Battle rolls when an encounter doesn’t seem worth all the bells and whistles, and it’s easy to adapt more modern rules design (for instance, I use ”Let it Roll” from Burning Wheel for tracking, sneaking and other ongoing activity, rather than rolling per time period). RQG is big but loose.

    Might ”Andin” be used much like ”Krjalki”, i.e. not really being a category at all apart from ”those bad beings we don’t like or accept”? Then there would be no end of what could fit under the term.
  18. Opposed rolls is perhaps the weakest part of BRP. There are ways to handle it or fix it, like the brilliant fix in Pendragon, but it is something that has to be handled or fixed.
  19. CoC SAN is not merely mental stress and poor mental health - it’s about having your illusions shattered and understanding the true, awful nature of the universe. This kind of thing doesn’t automatically seem like it would apply to Glorantha - the closest thing to it is Illumination. (That said, rules for mental stress have become very common in modern/neotrad RPGs, and fill a strong purpose there. CoC SAN might not be the best rules engine for it, though.)
  20. I have to wonder how Stabilize Iron works diegetically, though - does it somehow magically remove any gaps in the armor?! How does a leg greave suddenly guarantee that it will always be in the way for an attack?
  21. There was a practical experiment to reproduce Egyptian mummification, and their conclusion was that when it comes to working with skin, bronze sucks and obsidian rules. Even today, when you want a super fine edge in an experiment, crackin* glass in certain ways is very useful.
