  1. Actually, Mongoose giving up on the license or Moorcock unhappy and shopping it around again would not surprise me at all. I was simply commenting on the fact that product was unavailable and potentially why. Moorcock was so ... odd... that he sued Chaosium several times to try and get the license back. I imagine that Chaosium simply said enough, and got rid of a line that was costing them money on the legal side to try and retain. SDLeary
  2. Nah, never hurts to investigate. Other than BRP... UA, Cyberpunk v.3 (as Mike hasn't come out with his own yet), ConX; GURPS and HERO also couldn't hurt. I'd say Shadowrun too, but they seem to have that angle covered quite well Those are the ones that come to my mind, perhaps others could suggest some? What I'd probably play though would be BRP, mRQ, and UA Might want to take a look at some of the older discussions in the main forums. There have been a few lively discussions on firearms rules! SDLeary
  3. Just to be fair, I think that many of the restrictions on what Chaosium could and could not do under the agreement were probably dictated by Moorcock, who was always critical of Chasoium's efforts after he realized the licensing potential, or potential licensing potential. SDLeary
  4. Unless of course you are Chaosium and the product is Cthulhu! SDLeary
  5. No worries here! It gives us a great starting point to extrapolate the 10 to 20 years for a "Cyberpunk" type game! Or, to just run in the modern period with current hackers, etc. We are, after all, pretty much at Gibson's starting point in terms of tech. I made the original "Solo of Fortune" reference tongue-in-cheek anyway! ;-) What seemed to be their hang-up? Anything you can comment on? Honestly, I'm not sure a weapons book for a single system really makes sense. Despite my wish for more BRP supplements, this really only makes sense if its multi-system, like the old Firebird Ltd. The Armory: Vol. 1, or R.Tal's Compendium of Modern Firearms, both by Kevin Dockery. They had stats for MSPE (or was it Top Secret?), CoC, Morrow Project, and a couple of others. Now, if its going to be revised/optional rules for firearms use, as well as weapons lists, I say go for it! SDLeary
  6. Much closer to 2300 in flavor than classic Traveller. SDLeary
  7. There is already a really good BRP... well technically Cthulhu... SF setting out there, if Chaosium only takes the chance. Cthulhu Rising Despite the name, in the core book the impact of the Mythos is minimal, and could easily be presented in a call-out as an option. This setting is more along the Traveller 2300 in terms of tech and culture, but this is a good thing as it would make a Firefly type game really really easy. It has a pretty solid timeline, making games based on it in different time periods possible. It also has FTL, Multi-System conglomerates, large dispassionate Government organizations, civil wars, uncharted locations... all waiting to be explored and exploited. And there is even more currently on the Cthulhu Rising web site. John Ossoway has done a really good job here. While not Star Wars or Star Trek, it could certainly function as the framework for Traveller, B5, Firefly, 2001, and many others, as well as its own setting. SDLeary
  8. Or perhaps they could be posted for now, then printed as a FreeRPG Day handout the coming summer? SDLeary
  9. One would hope. I would have to assume (without seeing it) that some of the rules for sniper gear and body armor would be pulled from Cthulhu Now and/or Delta Green. That would be added in the main supplement that Mike would produce. Awaiting info as well. SDLeary
  10. Time is approaching for the next Endgame mini-Con! January 16, 2010! At the store in Oakland, CA They are taking submissions for games now! SDLeary
  11. Huh, now that they have essentially re-released "Solo of Fortune", I wonder if they will talk Mike into producing a proper Cyberpunk game using BRP! SDLeary
  12. Early 80s here... with RQ2, followed in short order by CoC and Superworld. SDLeary
  13. Yeah, the Teutonic Knights essentially laid the groundwork that would later become Prussia, Poland, and the Baltic States. SDLeary
  14. For anyone interested, I just uploaded a new fantasy focused character sheet. Its for an upcoming game I'm running, but hopefully someone else will find it useful SDLeary
  15. I would tend to agree. But there are those that would balk at it unless it was at least mentioned as an option. SDLeary
  16. Agreed. But a supplement that catered to those looking for a cinematic experience would not be a bad thing as it would open up the versatility of the game to them. Also, I think we might be falling into a trap if we consider "Cinematic" vs "Non-Cinematic". Hell, I play BRP games, UA, Pendragon, HeroQuest, Warhammer, SotC/Fate/Fudge, and 4e. To be quite honest, I like the variety. I DONT want to play the same game all the time. If we had a Cinematic supplement for BRP, that would be one more thing to draw people into the camp. I think many many gamers are the same, and a variety is good. Yes, I've heard of and talked to people that claimed they would never play other than X. I think they tend to be the great but vocal minority. SDLeary
  17. Thats actually an excellent option. I would vary the range a bit more, but otherwise its one good option. Another would be to simply introduce a mook rule or rules. For example, the first hit that gets past a mooks defenses, and they are out. Mooks (common ancient/medieval foot) tend to have little drive after being wounded and fade away. SDLeary
  18. Excellent catch! I was getting ready to go off on a name bashing post!! SDLeary
  19. It is an exciting time for the game as long as Chaosium doesn't allow the window of opportunity pass by. They need to get support items onto the shelves, and quickly now. As has been pointed out here and on other forums, online sales are generally still a drop in the bucket compared to store sales, if things are handled right. WE know to look online, but we all seem to be far more hooked into Tech than the average person, and I would guess that includes the average gamer as well. If Jhonny wants a game book for Christmas or a birthday, mom, dad, and grandma are far more likely to look for that in a book store or game store (if they have a local one) than to go online to find it. SDLeary
  20. I hope they continue to probe. Running through the new retail supplement of Cthulhu Invictus I can tell you that the impact on the reader seems much greater. Chad did an excellent job with the text, and it seems to come through much better here. Perhaps this will begin to give Charlie an Co. a better sense of what sells so that they can cherry-pick submissions and skip the Monograph route for some of them. SDLeary
  21. Oh lord.... Ben sent you that one, didn't he?! Looks like another SciFi... sorry, SyFy winner! SDLeary
  22. WOOOO! This sounds like we might actually get Shaman that are animists rather than spell tossers! SDLeary
  23. It looks good, but very dense. If you could reduce the color (page density) then it would probably work. I've found the Pendragon one. Attached for reference. SDLeary
  24. Agreed, but if its minimized to this extent, it should be more along the lines of a checklist, omitting narrative. "How to create a character" and whatnot. There is a Pendragon document like this floating around... now if I can only find it... SDLeary
